The Good Guys embarked on their next road trip, this time to the West Coast. They lost two of three in San Fransisco, before winning two of three in San Diego, and again losing two of three in Los Angeles. They returned home, on a Sunday night, to begin a nine game homestand.
When Mitch arrived home on Sunday night, Naomi had a stunning announcement for him. She had received an offer to work on a movie with Nicole Kidman, in Miami, on a secondary role, that would begin the next morning, and would keep her away for the majority of the Good Guys upcoming homestand. She told Mitch that she had called Lee Sniderman, and that he had agreed to her request, as unorthodox as it was.
In addition to Naomi's absence, the Good Guys were going to have another void in the lineup, at least at the beginning of the homestand. The morning after the Good Guys arrived home from their road trip, Mitch awoke, and was stricken with a badly upset stomach. He called his manager, and informed him of the problem,saying that hopefully he would return the next night.
That night, sans Mitch and Naomi, the Good Guys opened their nine game homestand at the ballpark, against the Nationals. Kate Hudson was on the hill. She lasted eight innings, allowing only one run, but the Good Guys had no offense on that evening, and dropped the game by a 1-0 score. Gil Bellows pitched the following night, and he, too, did well. This time, the Good Guys did get a couple of runs, and Bellows limited the damage from the Nationals to only one, as the Good Guys snared a 2-1 win. Charlize Theron had the ball on Wednesday night. She allowed three runs in six innings, a respectable start, but once again Paradise had no answers offensively, and lost, 3-2.
Thursday was an off day. That day, with Naomi gone, and him sick, Mitch just spent his off day lying in bed. He hoped to return to the lineup in time for Kate Hudson's start that Sunday. The team didnt fare well without him, losing two straight games to the Phillies on Friday and Saturday nights. On Sunday, a weakened Mitch finally was able to play. The Good Guys scored four runs in the opening inning, two on a Mitch two run double. Paradise never looked back, as Hudson shut out Philly on two hits, for a 4-0 whitewashing.
The Reds entered Paradise on Monday, in the homestand's last series. Gil Bellows pitched on Monday night, and gave up two runs, but was defeated, 2-0.. Charlize Theron was very good on Tuesday night, permitting but two hits, and one run, in what turned out to be a 3-1 victory. Mitch still wasnt well, and Naomi was still gone, as Neve Campbell faced the Reds before a sellout on a hot, hazy, Wednesday afternoon. Neve pitched very well that day, after having suffered a 5-3 loss the previous Friday night. Neve permitted just one run over seven innings, and from there, the bullpen took over, as the Good Guys claimed a 4-2 Paradise Island win, that finished off a sub 500 four and five homestand. It was far from a good homestand, but, could likely have been worse, with Mitch ill for the whole time, and Naomi gone for the week. The one variable that had not been in place that homestand was any battles between Mitch and Naomi. She was away, he was ill, so the homestand was dominated by her absence, and his illness.
In the meantime, the team held it's Saturday night tickle party. The featured lee would be a ticket taker who worked in the horse race section of the hotel the team always gambled at. Mitch was still ill, so didnt participate in the party. Catcher Barney began the tickle on the ticket taker's neck with fingers, as her head shifted from side to side, and the giggles began:HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHE! Working down, Center Fielder Ed Burns was next, tickling the ticket taker on her underarms, sides, ribs, and belly with fingers, as she thrashed:HEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHHHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! Moving down, Left Fielder Dawson was the next ler, tickling the very ticklish ticket taker on her hips, inner thighs, and behind her knees with fingers, as her legs bucked:EHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHHHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHE! Finally, with Mitch unable to attend the tickle party that Saturday, due to his illness, his best friend, the second baseman Russell, had agreed to take over the foot tickling duties of the lee for hime. Russell attacked the ticket taker's feet with his fingers, feathers, ice, and an electric toothbrush over her toes and soles. The ticket taker went beserk, wiggling her toes all over, and begging for mercy:HEHEHEHEHEHEEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHE! OMG PLEASE NO MORE! MY FEET AND TOES ARE SO TICKLISH! I GIVE UP! NOOOO! HAHAHHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHE! Finally, the tickle ended, and the ticket taker was untied.
Naomi returned home from Miami on Thursday, intending to return to Florida the following day, to continue work on the movie. When she did arrive home, Mitch was packed to leave for the airport, and the road trip, but she didnt want to take him to meet his plane: "Let's just say we were both absent this time, American, and the next time you're home, we will go forward" Naomi said. Mitch nodded, and called a cab, to take him to Nassau International.
