For anyone who likes punk music, or specificly Dropkick Murphys or Face to Face, i pickedup their new split CD today and it ROCKS! Face to Face does a damn good job cover DKM's ::Road of the Rightious:: and the song ::Wasted Life:: (not sure who it's by). Then DKM comes, and they come like thunder! Their new song ::The Dirty Glass (Darcy's Revenge):: is awesome! Kay Hanley (of Letter's to Cleo fame and the singing voice of Rachel Leah Cook in Josie and the Pussy Cats) plays the part of Darcy, i can't even describe it. It's like a traditional Irish drinking song and i can't say enough about it! Then they cover the Creedence Clearwater Revivial song ::Fortunate Son::. It's awesome and the song ::21 Guitar Salute:: are great. This is great stuff! I may be biased because Dropkick Murphys are my favrite band but i know good music, and this is it!

Do you guys know the Real McKenzies? They're a canadian band who play a lot of Scottish punk rock over the top of scottish drums and bagpipes, it's very tough.

Though I guess they're not "true" punk albums, 2 of my favorite records in the last couple years have been The Stooges "Funhouse" and "Raw Power".

NOT SO! Punk is awesome. OK, maybe some of the bubble gum stuff that stole the punk name IS a bit useless, you gotta go and listen to the Sex Pistols, Ramones, Buzzcocks and (more recently) Pennywise.
I can't think of any other genre that releases stress so well. And unlike metal, you don't have to be de-balled to sing it or on speed to play it.
PUNK ROCK RULES!
As a listener, I like alot of different types of music, but as a musician, I just love the energy of punk, even at my age ;-) (38)

yeah, bubblegum punk can feck off. Blink 182 can go and touch themselves in a very wrong manner for all I care. For those interested in maybe some softer punk, what about the clash? World renowned as the thinking-mans sex pistols.

The Clash were wonderful. For me the test of a truly great band is if the records still sound good 20 years later.

The Clash still sounds good - so good, in fact that another band (Rancid) has devoted their entire career to ripping the Clash off.

Hehehehe.... 'very wrong manner'....:manicd: I'll have to remember that one.

I think it's like anything else. The 'punk' you hear on the radio is indeed 'yucky'. You have to really look for the good stuff.

I'm kind of old school, though. Black Flag, Circle Jerks, X, generally the whole L.A. thing, with some of the early east coast stuff thrown in for good measure.

I don't just listen to punk, though. I like a lot of 'electronica', rap, hip hop, all kinds of stuff.

I don't know what you mean by "yucky". I like bands that aren't afraid to express their opinions even if it offends people. I hate gap punk like blink 182 and green day, in fact they shouldn't even be considered punk in any form. I like old and new punk bands like: Dead Kennedys, Pennywise, AFI, Dropkick Murphy's, Flogging Molly, Black Flag, The Misfits, The Vandals, Agnostic Front, Zeke, and any other band i haven't heard of that is cool!:D I also listen to thrash and death metal! SLAYER RULZ!

ok, well, mainstream punk (kind of an oxymoron, i think) is yucky. blink-182 sold out so bad. if you can go into a Toys R Us and find posters of a band, then you, my friend are a sell out. but excluding sell out bands, punk isn't yucky.

PunkMetalMan~Flogging Molly is coming back to my area in March and i can't wait. i saw them with Boucing Souls in January. they are awesome.

That's cool man! Of all the punk bands i listed i would definetely want to see flogging molly the most. They are awesome and i want to see them someday. I agree about blink 182 being not only "yucky" but just plain "shitty".:D After the Flogging Molly concert you'll have to post how it was.

Well this is not a marriage proposal thread but a music related thread so I'll post my thoughts on the subject. I am also a fan of old-school punk, both the East and West coast varieties. Good underground rock is always appealing to me, whether it be giants of the genre such as Sonic Youth and Fugazi or countless lesser-known indie bands that I have gone to check out on a whim. There are approximately a gazillion independent labels that all put out quality music, so I won't go into details in order to save time. I am, however, curious to find out if others here are into this stuff as well.

Will do bro but i have Sick of It All and Black 47 coming at me before that. Floggin Molly is April 12th or 14th. I'll post about all of them if i go to them. Idk if you ould call Black 47 punk but they are on the Shite 'N' Onions website and they are really good, so i'll post about them anyway. Shite 'N" Onions, by the way, is a website for Celtic influenced punk such as Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly and the Real McKenzies.

www.shitenonions.com is the address.

I have to agree with P.H. Tickler on that. Punk is awesome. Punk is the best music EVER. Some of my favorite bands are Dropkick Murphy's, Bad Religion, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, and MxPx. Punk Rules!

Stay cool,
