I find myself more and more in this camp. For instance, I am conservative on a few key issues.
Border Security. I think that the border should be secured. I would put the military on the border.
The Military. I think that the United States should maintain the most powerful military in the world.
Now, I am liberal on all the other primary social issues (Gay Marriage, Abortion, Separation of church and state, Drugs ect...), and I AM anti war. I know that sometimes, war is unavoidable. I don't think that applies to what is going on now, but thats a different thread.
Based on these thoughts, I suppose I am a "Conservative Democrat". Here I was all this time, thinking I was 100 percent liberal. I have changed quite a bit as I've gotten older.

I don't agree with you on the military, but I do agree with you on the border, war, and the liberal stances you mentioned.
I also have some conservative economic views like how I believe that the arts should not be funded by the government. That's something I think the private sector is more suited to.
The reason I disagree with your stance on the military is because I believe the size of the military is the reason why we enter war so much. The larger your military industrial complex is, the more temptation there is to enter war. Military industries hold a lot of weight when it comes to foreign policy decisions, and their desire to keep business going usually leads them to encourage more warfare. We could stand to cut the military budget in half (and still have the most powerful military in the world).

I'm sorry... What I meant to say was "We could stand to cut all social programs." There, is that better?

Please tell us why it's the U.S. military that always has to have the biggest budget cuts What percent of U.S. tax dollars goes to the military? Yes I am for a strong military However,I feel that most,if not all, troops should come back to our country

It doesn't have to be... As I said, we could cut social programs down to the point where poor people of able bodies and minds who can't find work wouldn't have much choice other than to join the military instead of living on welfare. We're probably going to reach that point soon enough anyway.
I figure we'll continue to see the military increase in size, and a flat federal income tax will likely be created sometime in the near future. We may also see the creation of a federal sales tax.
Social security will likely go bankrupt in the next 20 to 30 years, so states will have to take up the slack. Meanwhile, most healthcare will become a luxury of the rich.
So no... the military doesn't have to be the part of our budget that gets cut. In all honesty, it probably is more likely to rise in its part of the budget. After Iraq, it will probably be a while before we enter another war, but when we do, it's going to be much larger and more expensive. Iran and Pakistan are very likely possibilities.
