The Good Guys embarked on their next road trip. The trip began with them winning two of three in Washington. They then went to Philadelphia, and dropped two of three there, before going to Cincinnatti, and winning two of three. They returned home, on a Sunday night, to begin a nine game homestand, the following evening, against the Mets.
While Mitch was on the road trip, old issues with his father surfaced, which would erupt, to cause severe tension in Mitch's relationship with Naomi. All through his life, Mitch's father had been abusive, and, when his parents divorced, the father had been extremely unfair to his mother financially. While Mitch had always attempted to aid his mother financially, thoroughout his years of financial success with the Good Guys, she was a woman of great pride, and chose to accept no, or as little, help from Mitch as possible. During the trip, Mitch's father had again caused a problem for his mother, and Mitch went through the road trip in a very upset manner, intending to deal with his father by either letter, or phone call, when he returned to Paradise. Mitch's mind was distracted, and he was upset. Naomi, in the meantime, instead of being supportive, essentially brushed off Mitch's concerns by saying simply: "Your mother's problems with your father are theirs to work out. It isnt your business, Mitch. Your mother is an adult. Let her handle it" This comment served to enrage Mitch, as his mother had given up her life for him, and shared her meager finances with him, before Mitch became successful with the Good Guys. Naomi's comment was insensitive, and demonstrated that she didnt want to be bothered by Mitch's mother's problems, or his outside concerns.
During the plane ride home to Nassau, Mitch became more and more enraged. He was so angry, that he felt like telling her to fuck off, and that the marriage was over, upon his arrival in Paradise. He landed at Nassau International, and took a cab home. Upon walking through the door, he shot Naomi a look of stone. "Do I dump you now? Or do I bother even discussing this with you, you insensitive, fucking bitch!" Mitch shouted, his voice rising with every word. "Mitch, all I was saying is that you can't let this throw you into a tailspin. You have your career, us, our children" Naomi reasoned. "How about if the son of a bitch doesn't pay at all, Naomi?, and, my mother ends up homeless? Is it my problem then? What's the matter? Afraid that something is going to disturb your little plan, and what you feel Mitch has to do for you? Maybe it's you I should dump, and find another woman, who understands me more? I dont get it, Naomi. My mother and you never had a problem. She is the sweetest woman around, doesnt meddle in our lives, and she's the grandmother of your three children for Christ Sake, and a good one, and you think this isnt my problem? How dare you, Naomi Ellen! How the fuck dare you!" Mitch ranted. "Mitch, I didnt mean it to sound insensitive. I just cant have you take your eye off the ball" Naomi said. "Fuck you, Naomi, maybe it's you I have to take my eye off, forever!" Mitch shouted, and left the apartment.
Mitch, seething with rage, went to the casino, where he ordered a surf and turf dinner, and started gambling. With his bad mood, he began losing, dropping $1000. He honestly didnt know how he could stand to be with her. When the evening was over, he went home. "I am going to pack a bag, and I'm moving into the hotel for this homestand. My advice to you, is not to contact me, bother me, or say one fucking thing to me. If you so much as piss me off even a little bit, the next person I call is a divorce lawyer!" Mitch said, furiously. Mitch packed a suitcase, and went to the hotel, leaving messages on his three adult children's cell phones as to his whereabouts.
The next night, the Good Guys opened their homestand against the Mets. At the park, Naomi stood outside the locker room, trying to talk to Mitch. "What did I say? Do you want me to call a lawyer tonight? Get the fuck away from me, and let me think!" Mitch screamed, at the top of his lungs. Naomi backed off. "You bother me one more time, woman, and you're dumped. I dont care how fucking long I've been married to you, or how many kids I have with you!" Mitch said, the rage seething from him.
The Good Guys played the Mets that night. Kate Hudson pitched well, of course, but Mitch, his mind elsewhere, struck out four times. The Good Guys couldnt get any runs, and dropped the game, 3-0. The next night, Gil Bellows was on the mound. Paradise erupted for five runs that night, on nine hits. Bellows pitched into the eighth, and the Good Guys hung on, by a 5-4 score. Charlize Theron took her turn on Wednesday night. She allowed but two runs in seven innings, as the Paradise Islanders again erupted, this time for seven runs, in a 7-5 victory.
Thursday was an off day. The day before, Mitch had contacted the therapist, to give him the 24 hour courtesy notice, that he wouldnt be showing up. He received a message from Naomi on his cell phone. "You aren't talking to me. You've instructed me not to call you, and now you cancel our therapy appointment. If you hate me so much, Mitchell, then why don't you just say it, and let it be over!" Naomi said, her voice cracking on the phone. Mitch called Naomi back, and said. "Give me until the end of the homestand, and I'll give you an answer. You can file for divorce while I'm on the road, then, I'll get a lawyer, and answer when I get home" He said tersely, hanging up the phone before she could even answer.
Atlanta came to town on Friday night. Neve Campbell was on the mound. She allowed only one run in six innings, and, leading 4-1, the bullpen messed things up a little bit, but hung on, for a 4-3 win. Rachel Leigh Cook got shut out 2-0 on Saturday night. Kate Hudson had the ball, on a humid, hazy, 89 degree day Sunday, in front of a sellout, opposing the Braves' John Smoltz. Both pitchers gave up long two run homers early, and then settled in. Kate pitched a laborous seven innings, fanning nine Braves, and Smoltz went eight innings, striking out eleven Good Guys. In the ninth, with the score tied, Ed Burns came up, and hammered a solo homer, to right field, to give Paradise a 3-2 win over the Braves.
Houston entered Paradise on Monday. Gil Bellows was the starter. He allowed but one run, but the Good Guys could get none, losing 1-0. Charlize Theron had the ball on Tuesday. Paradise scored four runs in the first inning, and seven overall. Theron wasnt great, but she didnt need to be, as the Good Guys took away a 7-4 win. Neve Campbell took the mound, on a hot, humid, 90 degree Paradise day, in front of a sellout. Neve allowed four runs that day, and it looked like Paradise was going to lose. Then, trailing 4-0 in the sixth, they exploded for four runs in that inning to tie the score. The game was still tied, 4-4 in the eighth, when left fielder Dawson hit a solo homer, to give the Good Guys the lead. Hilary Duff made the lead stand up in the ninth, and the Good Guys had a hard fought, 5-4 win, that completed a six and three homestand. On field, they had survived. Off field, it was anything but survival.
In the meantime, of much less significance, the team held it's Saturday night tickle party, following the loss to the Braves. The featured lee would be that evening's losing pitcher, Rachel Leigh Cook. Cook was tied to the table in the middle of the fetish club, in a black bra and panties. Center Fielder Burns began the tickle on Rachel's neck with fingers, as the very ticklish pitcher began to move her neck, and giggle:HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! Moving down, Second Baseman Russell was next, tickling Cook on her underarms, sides, ribs, and belly with fingers, as she bucked, and squealed:HEHHEHEEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEEHHEHEHEEHE! Working down, Left Fielder Dawson was the next ler, attacking Cook on her hips, inner thighs, and behind her knees, causing her knees to buck:HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! Finally, Mitch positioned himself at Rachel's bare feet, and tickled them with his fingers, two feathers, ice, and an electric toothbrush over her soles and toes. Rachel went ballisitic, wiggling her toes every which way, and squealing with giggles and laughter:HEEHEHEHEHHEEHHEHEHEHEHEHEEHHEHEEHHEHEHEHEHEE! OMG PLEASE NO MORE! I GIVE UP! NOOOOO! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! Finally the tickle ended, and Cook was untied.
On Wednesday night, Mitch went back to the apartment :"I will leave in a few minutes. I just have to dump this laundry, and pack my clothes to head to New York tomorrow" He said flatly. "You're still not talking to me? You said you would give me an answer by homestand's end. Well, I'm awaiting your answer" Naomi said, in a normal tone of voice. Mitch took a deep sigh: "I dont have an answer, no" He replied. "It isn't fair for you to make me wait, Mitchell. If you want out, tell me so, and let it be done" Naomi said. "I dont know what I want. Tell you what, Australian, if you want out, then go see a lawyer, and let's call it quits" Mitch retorted. "I dont want out, American. I didn't take my clothes, and move out for ten days. I've been right here. If you wanted to come home, no one would have stopped you, but you seem to hate me, so I left you alone" Naomi said. "I hate what you said, Naomi. It was insensitive, and wrong!" Mitch said. Naomi was silent. "For someone who;s always chirping about "heartfelt", and "heartfelt apologies", boy, you certainly were a hypocrite on this, weren't you?" Mitch taunted. "I'm sorry if I offended you with my delivery, I didn't mean to sound insensitive, but facts are facts. Your mom needs to deal with this. It wasnt your marriage. You can support, but you can't fix it" Naomi said. Mitch stood silent. "You cant save the world, Mitch, you aren't Superman. Save yourself, save us" Naomi said. Mitch started to head for the door :"I dont want to talk about this, I'll see you later"
Naomi tried to stop him. "God Damnit, Mitchell, dont walk out on me! Face this! I still love you! I dont want it over, but, if you keep freezing me out, as much as it kills me, I will take the step, and deal with the pain! Stop being a fucking coward, and face me, Damn you! Going back to the hotel and not talking to me isnt going to take away the problem!"
Naomi screamed, starting to cry.
Mitch sat down. "What do you want me to do?" He asked. "Check out of the hotel. Come home. Let's deal with this. Come to bed. We dont have to do anything if you dont want to. Just dont freeze me out. Then, tomorrow night, I'll take you to the airport like I always you. You will go off, do your job, I'll be here for you when you come back, like I always am, and we will deal with this problem" Naomi said. Mitch nodded. He was angry, but, he didnt think he wanted out, at least yet. He had too many thoughts racing through his mind.
Mitch went to the hotel, checked out, went back home, and the couple climbed into bed. "No mushy stuff, tickling, or sex, Aussie. If you want to talk, then fine, let's talk" Mitch said. Naomi stroked Mitch's face. "I love you, Mitchell. I have loved you from the first time I saw you, almost a quarter century ago. I would do anything for you" Naomi said, appealing to him. "What you said to me hurt, Australian. It hurt a lot" Mitch said. "I know that, and I am so sorry. Next homestand, whatever you want me to do to make it up to you, I will. " Naomi replied. As Mitch lied in bed, part of his mind wanted to make love to Naomi, but, he knew it best not to. He didnt want her to think that everything was fine.
The next morning, Mitch awoke, and fired off an e-mail to his father, with a proposal to the father, of how to solve Mitch's mother's problem. Mitch didnt know if he would hear from his father or not, but felt it was worth a try.
That night, Naomi drove Mitch to Nassau International, so he could catch the team flight to New York. "Have a good trip. I love you. I will be right here waiting for you when you get back" Naomi said, kissing him.
So, it had been a very rocky homestand, filled with difficulty. Now came a ten day road trip. Was the problem between Mitch and Naomi just temporary, or would it spiral? That answer to come in the continuing story of the Tickle Team From Paradise Island.

The End

Well it looked like it might have been the end there but cooler heads prevailed at last. I'm eager to see what happens with the couple as the next homestand rolls around. Another great one and I look forward to the next one.

Yes, it did look bad for a while, but thankfully sanity returned to the fold. Hopefully, things will calm down.
As you know, stay tuned, there will be more to come soon. Hopefully tomorrow.

Mitch
