The Good Guys embarked on their next road trip. Things started well, as they swept three games in Pittsburgh. Then, fortunes went a bit sour, as they dropped two of three in Chicago, and were swept in a three game series in St Louis. They returned home, on a Sunday night, to begin a nine game homestand, against the West Coast teams.
While Mitch was away, relations between him and Naomi were incredibly calm. They had long cyber conversations on the computer, with virtually little or no friction. It seemed like, for the time being, that the volcanic marriage of Mitch and Naomi, had sputtered. It remained to be seen if the good relations would continue.
When Mitch arrived home on Sunday night, he was feeling a bit sour, that the team had lost five of it's last six games. Naomi was all ready for a relaxing evening, but Mitch wanted to blow off steam. "Get dressed, let's go to the casino, and out to dinner. I can't sit here all night" Naomi went up to him, and put her arms around his neck:" Oh, you can't sit here all night? We just have to forget about those games. Nine games here, and Kate starts it off tonight. Just go out there, relax, and play as we know we can. If we do that, we will win a lot of games" The manager said, giving a brief, supportive, decisive message.

Mitch then came up, and delivered a long, three run homer, into the left field bullpen, to give Paradise the lead. The 35,000 on hand that night roared their approval, and the early lead helped relax Kate and the whole team. Kate pitched a complete game that night, striking out ten, as Paradise got two more runs in the game, and blanked the Giants, 5-0. The next night, Gil Bellows was on the mound. The Good Guys again got off to a quick start, as Center Fielder Ed Burns launched a two run, first inning homer. Paradise got several other clutch hits, as Bellows pitched eight strong innings, and came away with a 5-1 win. Charlize Theron had the ball on Wednesday night. It was a seesaw game, with the Giants going ahead, and the Good Guys fighting back. Finally, in the ninth, with the score tied, 3-3, Hilary Duff gave up a homer, and the Good Guys could not recover, dropping the contest, by a 4-3 score.
Thursday was an off day. That day, in counesling, the couple had little to report. "All seems okay. We haven't been fighting. He seems to have finally gotten past what happened in the World Series, so, all that is really happening for us is baseball, sex, and normal family life. It's good for a change to not have the volcanic blowouts" Naomi said.
San Diego came to town on Friday night. Paradise got things off to a fast start, by scoring five first inning runs. San Diego kept inching back, before the bullpen came on, and nailed it down for the Good Guys, who prevailed by a 5-4 score. Rachel Leigh Cook pitched one of her best games as a Good Guy on Saturday. Unfortunately, the Padres starter was better. The game was scoreless in the ninth, when Cook gave up a homer. It was enough to defeat the Good Guys, 1-0. Kate Hudson had the ball, opposing Padres ace Jake Peavy, on a sunny, warm, humid, 87 degree day, in front of a sellout. Both pitchers were at their best, as Peavy struck out nine Good Guys, and Kate fanned ten Padres. The game was scoreless, until the bottom of the eighth, when, with a man on, against Peavy, Mitch came up, and hammered a two run shot, into the right field bullpen. Hilary Duff relieved Kate in the ninth, and struck out the side, for a 2-0 Good Guy win.
The Dodgers visited Paradise on Monday, in the homestand's last series, before the Good Guys would go to California. Gil Bellows pitched on Monday night, and got hit hard. Paradise could not support him offensively, losing the game, 4-2. Charlize Theron was the starter on Tuesday night. She gave up three runs in six innings, a quality start. The game was tied, 3-3 in the sixth, when, with two men on, Ed Burns blasted a long homer, into the right field seats. The bullpen did the rest, and the Good Guys had a 6-3 win. Neve Campbell took the mound, on a sunny, hot, 89 degree Paradise day, in front of a sellout. In the brutal heat, Neve pitched a great game, allowing only four hits, and two runs. Her effort, however, resulted in little more than a no decision, as she left, tied,. 2-2 after seven. In the eighth, Paradise pushed across a run. Hilary Duff made things interesting in the ninth, but got the outs she needed, in what would turn out to be a 3-2 Paradise Island win, that completed another fine six and three homestand. Tranquility such as Mitch and Naomi, and the team were experiencing, hadn't been seen for a long time, and , as the Good Guys prepared to head to California the next night, all seemed just fine.
