The Good Guys went off on their California road trip. They began the trip by dropping two of three games in San Fransisco, before going to San Diego and winning two of three, and finally heading to Los Angeles, and losing two of three there. The team returned home, on a Sunday night, to begin a nine game homestand, that would complete their first part of their schedule around the league, at home.
While Mitch was away, his relationship with Naomi took a turn for the worst, in a most rapid fashion. While he was gone, it seemed that Naomi was never home to talk to him, either on the phone, or the computer. At one point, Mitch went for five days without being able to reach Naomi, and, when he finally did, he was upset. Naomi fired back brutally, chastizing him, for playing a "Child's game" as a man, and not really working for a living. "You make over one million dollars a year for hitting and catching a baseball. You play three hours a night, stay in luxury hotels, and basically sit on your ass four to five months a year. Ever try really working for a living? Fifteen fucking hours a day! I've done that, American, as an actress, and you chastize me for not sitting here, while you're off chasing your baseball dream. Fuck you!" Naomi spouted.
When Mitch arrived home, on Sunday night, Naomi was up, but not receptive to any civility. "Guest room for you, buster!" She seethed, pointing her finger toward the guest room. "Fine. At least I dont have to listen to your bullshit!" Mitch shot back, making his way to the guest room.
The next day, Mitch and Naomi had nothing to say to each other. Mitch spent his time at the casino, losing several hundred dollars, while Naomi shopped with the other Good Guy female pitchers. Clearly, it was not the beginning of a good homestand.
That night, Paradise opened their homestand, against the Nationals. Kate Hudson was on the mound. Ed Burns hit a first inning two run homer, but that was all the Good Guys got offensively. Mitch, his mind elsewhere, struck out four times, to a chorus of boos. Luckily, Kate pitched a complete game shutout, striking out nine, in a 2-0 win. The next night, Gil Bellows was the starter. The Good Guys got merely three runs, on two homers. Bellows was sharp for seven innings, and the bullpen finished up, for a 3-2 Good Guy victory. Charlize Theron took her turn on Wednesday night. She allowed five runs in four innings, and the Good Guys could not recover, losing 5-3.
Thursday was an off day. Mitch and Naomi showed up to counesling that day, in trouble. Mitch, at one point, spouted about "Calling it quits", which prompted rage from Naomi. "Sure, you fucking coward. It's easier for you to say "Fuck you" to me, after over twenty years, instead of God forbid facing up to yourself. God forbid Naomi should ever be right, and Mitch should ever be wrong, about anything. God, Mitchell, this Mister Perfect act you try to put on all the time, makes me sick. You are not perfect, far from it. I'm the only one who doesn't kiss your ass up and down, and you hate me for it, because I choose to instill some reality into you!" Naomi seethed. They left the session, still troubled, little having been settled.
The Phillies came to town on Friday night. Neve Campbell was on the mound. She pitched a great game, allowing only one run, in eight innings, but Paardise, who were not scoring many runs, got shut out, 1-0. Rachel Leigh Cook took a 5-1 battering on Saturday night. Kate Hudson would be on the hill, to try and right the ship, on a sunny, beastly, 97 degree Paradise day, in front of a smaller crowd than usual, due to the brutal heat. Kate pitched only six innings, but kept the damage under control, allowing only two runs, and five hits, while striking out only five, in an attempt to conserve her energy. The game was tied, 2-2 in the sixth, when Paradise scored three runs. The bullpen did the rest, bringing home a 5-2 win, to salvage one game in the series.
The Reds entered Paradise on Monday, in the homestand's last series. Gil Bellows pitched on Monday night, and got hit hard, allowing four runs, and losing 4-3. Charlize Theron had the ball on Tuesday night. She pitched a much better game than she had in her previous outing, giving a quality start, by allowing three runs in six innings. The game was tied, 3-3 in the sixth, before the Good Guys exploded for four runs. It proved to be more than enough, as the bullpen allowed only one back, in a 7-4 victory. Neve Campbell was on the mound, on a sunny, hot over 90 degree day, in front of a near sellout. Neve allowed three runs in five innings, and Paradise trailed,
4-2 in the eighth, before rallying for three runs. Hilary Duff put the Reds away in the ninth, and the Good Guys had secured a 5-4 win, that finished off a subpar five and four homestand. Mitch was not hitting well, and he and Naomi were in big trouble. As the team packed to head to Washington the next night, things looked grim.
Mitch decided to skip the Saturday tickle party that week, as Naomi was there with the rest of the team, and he didnt want to sit in the room, scowling at her all night. Instead, he paid $100, to be tickled by a dom. Mitch, in his boxer shorts, was led to a private room, on the other end of the fetish club from where the team was, and tied in his boxer shorts to a bed. Finally, she raked her long red nails over his soles, and his toes, and also used feathers, and an electric toothbrush on his toes and soles. Mitch went beserk, wiggling his toes every which way, and howling with laughter:HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHAHA! VERY TICKLISH! NOOOOOO! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHAHAA! This went on for an hour, until Mitch was untied, and went home.
On Thursday, Mitch was packed to leave for the team flight to Washington. "Shall we say we just had a bad homestand, and things will be better next time?" Mitch said. "I dont know. That depends on you. Are you with me, or are you going to be a coward, and say "Fuck you, Goodbye, Naomi, because you cant face up to yourself?" Naomi shot back. "I'm with you" Mitch replied. "Okay, then, let's say this week was a bump in the road, and try to do better next time" Naomi said. Mitch nodded, picked up his suitcase, and left the apartment, to catch his cab to the airport.
