The Good Guys embarked on their first road trip of the year. It started off in a difficult fashion. They began by losing two out of three games in both New York, to the Mets, and in Atlanta, to the Braves, before winning two of three games at Houston. They returned home, on a Sunday night, to begin a nine game homestand, their second of the year.
During most of the road trip, Naomi had been out with friends at night, and hadn't said much more to Mitch then a brief "Hello", on the computer, or the phone. Mitch felt disconnected, and frankly, distant, from her. When he arrived home from Houston, on Sunday night, the couple greeted each other, but, when they went to make love, and tickle, something didn't seem right. They had been married over twenty years, and they weren't fighting, and yet...
The Good Guys second homestand of the year began on Monday night, against Pittsburgh. Kate Hudson would open the homestand. Kate had an easy game, allowing but one run, a home run, and only two hits, in her eight innings of work, while striking out nine Pirates. The Good Guys, however, did not support her with the offense. They trailed, 1-0, in the eighth, before finally erupting for four runs, on two homers. The crowd was not happy when manager Sniderman sent Hilary Duff out in the ninth, instead of Kate. Kate, however, had thrown 113 pitches, and told the manager that she was "done". Luckily, Duff breezed through the ninth, and Paradise had a 4-1 win. Gil Bellows started the next night. Again, the Good Guys had trouble scoring runs. Gil allowed one early run, and nothing else. In the ninth, Paradise trailed, 1-0, before scoring two runs, on three hits, for a 2-1 victory. Charlize Theron pitched on Wednesday night. She got hit around a bit, allowing three runs in her six innings of work. The Good Guys were doing nothing offensively, until finally, in the ninth, they got a few hits, and Mitch came up, and delivered a Grand Slam homer, to give the Good Guys a 4-3 win, and a sweep of the Pirates. All three games had been close, but, the Good Guys had perservered.
Thursday was an off day. That day, in counesling, the couple described their current situation. "We're not fighting. We just seem.. awkward. We have sex, and we tickle, but something doesn't seem right. Naomi seems distant, and I seem distant. It's almost like, we are being these polite acquaintances to each other, instead of husband and wife, except for the sex. I think we both have fears of what will be, if this is in fact the last season." Mitch said.
Chicago came to town on Friday night. Neve Campbell was the starter. She allowed only three runs in six innings, but the Good Guys got none, and lost,
3-0. Rachel Leigh Cook took a 9-2 trashing on Saturday night, in front of a crowd that was in a bad mood. The Good Guys, after flying high the first three games, had been brought back to earth, with the two straight losses. The team showed up to the park on Sunday, handing the ball to Kate Hudson, trying to avoid being swept. The Good Guys got offense early, scoring four times in the first, on two homers. From there, Kate breezed. The score was 5-0 in the ninth, when suddenly, Kate began walking the park, and ended up with the bases loaded. Sniderman came out to the mound, and stared his ace directly in the face: "You want out of here, Kate?" He asked his pitcher. "No, I want to finish it" Kate replied. "Okay, well then, bear down, stop this bullshit, and get me the outs I need, so we can get the hell out of here!" Sniderman said, raising his voice more in motivation, than anger. There was nobody out. One more mistake by Kate, and she was gone. Kate began working her way out of the jam with a strikeout, and then, got a double play, to end the game, for a 5-0 win, avoiding the sweep.
St Louis entered Paradise on Monday, for the last series of the homestand. Gil Bellows pitched on Monday night. Gil got hit around, allowing four runs. The Good Guys had little offense in them that night, falling by a 4-2 score. Charlize Theron took the ball on Tuesday. After allowing two runs, she settled down, and gave up nothing the rest of the way. In the eighth, trailing 2-0, the Good Guys scored four times, and took the lead. Duff finished the game in the final inning, and the Good Guys turned the tables on the Cards, with a 4-2 win. Neve Campbell took the mound, on a sunny, humid, nearly 90 degree Paradise day, in front of a sellout. After getting no runs for Neve in her last outing, a loss, the Good Guys solved that in the opening inning, exploding for four runs. Unfortunately, on that hot day, Neve did not have good stuff, and she allowed the Cardinals to tie the score. The game went to the ninth, where, Ed Burns finished the homestand in dramatic fashion, by blasting a home run into the bullpen in right, for a 5-4 Good Guy win, that completed a fine six and three homestand. The team had experienced it's peaks and valleys during the homestand, with the sweep of the Pirates, and then the back to back losses to the Cubs. In the final analysis, they had achieved their goal of six wins in the nine games, and, as Sniderman spoke to the media after the game that afternoon, he told them he was "Satisfied" with his team's performance on the homestand.
In the meantime, the team held its Saturday night tickle party, following the loss to the Cubs. The featured lees would be all the Good Guys female starting pitchers, who were tied to beds in seperate rooms of the fetish club. The extremely ticklish Neve Campbell was in one room, where she was surrounded by her male teammates. Second baseman Russell began the tickle on her neck with fingers, as Neve's head shifted, and the giggles began:HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEEHE! Working down, Center Fielder Burns was next, tickling Neve on her underarms, sides, ribs, and belly with fingers, as she thrashed, and cackled:HEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEEEHHEHHEHEHHEHEE! Moving down, left fielder Dawson was the next ler, attacking Neve on her hips, inner thighs, and knees with fingers, as she continued the giggles:HEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHHEHEEHHEHEHEHEHEEHEHEHEHEHEEHHHEHHE! Finally, Mitch positioned himself at Neve's feet, tickling them with his fingers, feathers, and an electric toothbrush, over her toes and soles. Neve went beserk, wiggling her toes every which way, and screaming with laughter:HEHEHHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEEHEHEHE! OMG PLEASE STAHHPPPPP! I GIVE UP! NOOOOOOOO! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEEHHE! Finally, the tickle ended, and Neve was untied.
On Thursday night, Naomi drove Mitch to Nassau International, so that he could catch the team flight to Pittsburgh. "Nothing great this homestand, American, but nothing bad. We are okay, and stable, which, for us, is an acheivement. Now go off, play well, and I will be right here when you come back" Naomi said, kissing him goodbye.
It had been a rather routine homestand. Was it all a mirage?, or was tranquility going to set in for a while? Those answers to come in the continuing story of the Tickle Team From Paradise Island.
