The Good Guys embarked on their first road trip of the year. During the trip, they were hit by weather problems. They began the trip by splitting two games in New York with the Mets, while having another game rained out. Then, as they moved onto Atlanta, the same thing happened. The Good Guys took the first game from the Braves, before the middle game was rained out, and the Braves won the third game. Finally, as they moved to Houston, they played in an indoor park, and got in all three games, dropping two of three. They returned home, on a Sunday night, to begin a nine game homestand, against the teams from the middle of the country.
When the team returned home, things between Mitch and Naomi were calm. They hadn't spoken for lengthy amounts of time, during the nine game trip, which, in a way, kept the stablity, and avoided arguments. When Mitch got home, the couple made love. It was almost methodical, as if it was what they were supposed to do.
On Monday night, the Good Guys opened a nine game homestand, at the ballpark, against Pittsburgh. Good Guy manager Lee Sniderman addressed his team before the game, stressing to them the desire for a good homestand. Even though it was very early in the season, the ballclub had performed not up to par during the last homestand, and the two rainouts in New York, and Atlanta, had stalled team morale. Once the Good Guys took the field that night, morale didnt seem to be a problem. After Kate Hudson got the Pirates out in the first inning, two men got on base, before Mitch came up, and blasted a long homer, into the right field bullpen, for a 3-0 Good Guy lead. With the early lead, Kate dominated, pitching a five hit shutout, with a dozen strikeouts, as the Good Guys got two more runs, for a 5-0 Good Guy win. Gil Bellows continued the good roll the next night, allowing one run in seven innings. Paradise went to the tenth, tied, 1-1, before Ed Burns launched a game winning homer, for a 2-1, 10 inning, Good Guy victory. Charlize Theron was pitching a fine game on Wednesday, protecting a 1-0 lead in the eighth, when suddenly, an error opened the floodgates for five Pirate runs, as the Bucs sank the Good Guys in the finale, by a 5-1 score.
Thursday was an off day. That day, in counseling, the couple again stressed to the therapist that really nothing was going on in their marriage. "Maybe we have settled down to live like a real married couple. We are civil, we have sex, we dont fight. Hopefully this will continue" Naomi said.
Chicago came to town on Friday night. Lee Sniderman was concerned about his team's lack of offense, so he juggled his lineup a bit, flip flopping second baseman Russell, who usually hit leadoff, with second place hitter, shortstop Tom Cruise. Additionally, Sniderman moved left fielder Dawson up to Mitch's third spot in the order, and dropped Mitch to fifth. This series of moves jump started the offense, as they got four runs early, and made it stand up, for a 5-2 win, behind starter Neve Campbell. The same lineup was kept for Saturday night's game, but fifth starter Rachel Leigh Cook got battered for seven runs, and Paradise could not recover, losing 7-6. Kate Hudson had the ball, on a sunny, slightly humid, 82 degree day, in front of a sellout. The revamped lineup scored three runs in the first, and three more the rest of the way. Kate was not at her best, but survived six innings, while striking out six, as the bullpen came in, to finish off the 6-3 win.
St Louis entered Paradise on Monday, for the final series of the homestand. Gil Bellows pitched on Monday night. Gil Bellows got hit hard on Monday night, for five runs in five innings, as the Good Guys lost, 5-3. Charlize Theron pitched on Tuesday night. The Good Guys scored two first inning runs, but then got nothing else. Charlize, however, was brilliant, firing a complete game shutout, allowing only three hits, in a 2-0 win. Neve Campbell took the mound, on a sunny, humid, 84 degree Paradise day, in front of a sellout.. That day, the Good Guys really looked like themselves, as, in the first inning, men got on base, and then Mitch, still hitting fifth, blasted a Grand Slam homer. Campbell was not at her best, but she didn;t have to be, because the Good Guys scored four more runs in the second inning, turning the game into a rout. Campbell tired after six innings, and the bullpen came in, and slammed the door, for an 8-5 Paradise Island win, that finished off a fine six and three homestand. Paradise was scoring a few more runs on that homestand, even in the losses, and, when the media closed in on Sniderman, to find out if he would be taking the revamped lineup on the road trip, the manager was coy, saying: "You'll just have to wait and see".
In the meantime, the team held its Saturday tickle party, following the loss to the Cubs. The featured lee would be the team's male hitting coach, as he was held "Responsible" for many of the Good Guys recent troubles, and it was deemed he needed to be punished. The hitting coach was tied hands and feet to the bed, in the middle of the fetish club, as the team's female members surrounded him. Kate Hudson began the tickle on the hitting coach's neck with fingers, as his head shifted, and the laughter began:HHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAAHHAA! Finally, Naomi positioned herself at the hitting coach's feet, attacking his feet with fingers, feathers, and an electric toothbrush, over his soles and toes. On Thursday night, Naomi drove Mitch to Nassau International Airport, so that he could catch the team flight to Pittsburgh: "A bit better homestand this time, like normal. Now go off, play well, try not to get rained on, and I will see you next Sunday night"Naomi said, kissing Mitch goodbye.
