There's enough philosophizing about this subject, "it makes no sense because of this; it can't be true because how would you explain that". Could we just hear from folks who have had personal experiences with the "LOA", whether you were trying to attract something into your life, or if something happened in your life that you think was the LOA at work. Thanks.

There's actually a parable based on something akin to the Law of Attraction that a friend recently posted to a thread of mine. Along the lines of "seek and ye shall find". (http://www.ticklingforum.com/showpost.php?p=1476011&postcount=26)
To be honest, I'm more a "Law of the Lost Keys" kinda' guy... Finding it doesn't depend on how much you want to find something, but on whether it's there.
But there is something to the whole "you get what you give" philosophy. If nothing else, it has to come up that way eventually by virtue of statistics. I mean, you can try sending out that positive vibe, you can try to look for resolution, friendship, understanding, and whathaveyou by offering it yourself. And sometimes you get it back, and sometimes some bully will try to coerce you and rob you of your self-respect instead. Them's the breaks. The latter happened to me, recently, so, sorry -- that one doesn't help.
But also recently, I sent a bit of art to a friend who's having some problems, it seemed to give her a smile, and after a long drought, she wound up posting shortly thereafter, starting a thread about how grateful she was for the people she'd met here. That thread got some good traffic and well-wishes, and I like to think that maybe my little bit of art helped spark that exchange of happiness. I wasn't looking for any more than making her happy and giving her a bit of a distraction, and because she received it and acted on it positively, it became more, and a real exchange of love. And that made me happy. So that was pretty cool.
Those examples in mind, I think it's harder sometimes to get positivity back... It would be easy to bring down the mood of the happiest person I know with anger, a cutting remark, or just being gloomy all the time. But let me tell ya' -- it's hard as Hell to use happiness, or a joke or anything to wring a smile out of the perpetually grumpy cashier at my local Sunoco... I'm still trying, though! :D
And I'll admit, however kind and well-meaning and thoughtful and positive I try to be, I have a line like everyone else, after which the law becomes, "Give me enough flack, and I'll surely give it back." (It's true because it rhymes! :xpulcy: )
If you're just looking for stories of positivity exchanges, I suspect you'll get enough to feel the law is valid. If you're willing to accept both positive and negative examples, however, I suspect this thread will be swamped with evidence.
Look forward to reading the responses.

i seem to live by the old law of attraction except i call it "building the garage, waiting for the new car". It always seems that if i put forth effort toward something it tends to happen... i guess the key element is effort.

Yes I realized earlier today that I basically said I only wanted to hear positive experiences with the "Law of Attraction". What I really meant to say is I'd like to hear from anyone who has tried to use this LOA, whether you got results you liked, results you didn't like, or no results at all which convinced you it's just a bunch of BS. I just meant that instead of more philosophizing about whether it SOUNDS like BS (there's plenty of that anywhere you look, especially on the internet), I'd like to hear from people who have actually tried it for themselves. Sorry I wasn't clear the first time.

It has worked for me, though I always attributed it to prayer.
Once I said a prayer to a certain saint for four different colored roses, each one represpnting a stage in Purgatory, one for heaven, for a soul I had been praying for.
After a while, I received a rose, and then a different flower of the color from the next in line. Finally the last color came up! (red was meant to be the lowest level of Purgatory as its closest to hell, never did get that one).
I've asked for certain songs to be sung in Church, and a list of how they should go, to make certain God wanted me to follow Him in a certain career path. Note I made this list not knowing which songs would be sung. Sure enoguh, one after the other, the list was given to me.
So yeah, I agree with the Law.

The concept has been around in many various incarnations. In the 50's, it was the "Power of Positive Thinking". In the new age movement there are various proponents that present this as the way to change reality by creating it to be what you desire it to be. This is just a more mainstream way to market this philosophy.
As for its merits, I do believe that being positive and visualizing what you want is a worthwhile beginning to the accomplishment of your goals. But merely wishing things to be a certain way does not magically transform them. I also see that this is a popular philosophy for those that already have what they want (money, good looks, health, privilege etc) and they want to believe that they are creating this prosperity with their mind, and hence are more deserving of this status. This also allows them to blame the poor, sick, and unattractive masses for their own predicament, "Its your own fault for being a starving mom with cancer because you are thinking negative thoughts and I don't have to feel any compassion toward you." It ultimately is a copout, when used to explain the social order and human condition.

Well said! :)

Has been very useful to me. Although I always realise that the ultimate power comes from God-- by using the ideas in the book i have certainly been able to "create" the life I want and it gets better every single day. So yes-- give it a go and enjoy it all.

I am slowly doing the same.

Belief in and of itself is not likely to produce a desired outcome. But belief translating into action is, and that's most of what people are talking about in this thread.
