The Good Guys complied a record of four wins, five losses on their final regular season road trip, and then, returned to Paradise, to sweep the Pirates three straight, on the final weekend of the regular season. Now, it was time for the edge of one's seat season, October.
The Paradise Islanders would have home field advantage in the first two playoff rounds. The National League Division Series began on a Tuesday, in Paradise, against the Atlanta Braves. Kate Hudson would oppose John Smoltz in Game One. Both pitchers pitched very well. Kate fired eight innings, allowing one run, and striking out ten, while Smoltz pitched seven innings, allowing one run, and fanning twelve Good Guys. In the eighth, with the score tied 1-1, the Good Guys got a run off the Atlanta bullpen, and Hilary Duff got through the ninth, for a 2-1 Good Guy victory. Gil Bellows pitched Game Two, against Tim Hudson. Hudson allowed two early runs, but then settled down. Bellows had a 2-0 lead into the sixth, when the Braves hit a homer with a man on, to tie the score. In the eighth, the Good Guys again got to the Braves bullpen, and Duff saved the day again, for a 3-2 Good Guys win, to put them one win from the NLCS.
The teams flew to Atlanta for Game Three. After an off day Thursday, Charlize Theron dueled Braves lefty Chuck James, trying to end the series. Charlize got hit for three runs in six innings, while James was just brilliant, allowing only one run through eight innings. The Braves pen held the Good Guys in the ninth, as Atlanta claimed a 3-1 win, their first of the series. Kate Hudson and Smoltz would duel again in Game Four. It was anything but the low scoring pitcher's duel it had been in Game One. Smoltz got hit for four runs in five innings by the Good Guys, while Kate was clubbed for five runs by the Braves. The Good Guys led, 5-4 in the eighth, when the roof caved in, and Atlanta's monster offense scored five runs. The Braves pen didn't give it back, and, the series the Good Guys had lead 2-0, was headed back to Paradise, for a deciding Game Five.
In Game Five, Tim Hudson faced Gil Bellows again. The crowd was very loud, wanting to will the Good Guys to the next round. The Braves scored two runs early, and Tim Hudson was magnificent, shutting down Paradise until the eighth, when a couple of hits, and a suicide squeeze, pushed two runs home to tie the game. In the ninth, a base hit gave the Good Guys the winning run, and sent them to the NLCS, after a series win that was probably much more difficult then it should have been.
Paradise stayed home, and rested for two days, before welcoming the New York Mets, their opponents in the National League Championship Series. Kate Hudson could not go on only two days rest, so the Game One starter for the NLCS had to be Charlize Theron. Charlize pitched well, allowing only two runs in seven innings. Game One Mets starter John Maine was better, though, allowing only one run through eight innings, as the Mets bullpen finished the Good Guys in the ninth, for a 2-1 Mets win. Kate would be the Good Guy starter, in a must win situation for Paradise in Game Two, against the Mets Tom Glavine. Glavine got hit some, allowing three runs in six innings. Kate was great, permitting but one run, and two hits, over eight innings, and combining with the pen, to give Paradise a 3-1 victory, to even the series.
After an off day Thursday, the teams flew to New York for Game Three on Friday night. Orlando Hernandez would go for the Mets, against Gil Bellows for Paradise. Bellows allowed three quick first inning runs, and the Good Guys could not rally, as Hernandez permitted but two runs through seven innings, for a 3-2 Met win, to give them the series lead. Game Four would match Charlize against Maine a second time. This time, with the chance to put the Mets one win from a World Series, in front of the home crowd, Maine choked, allowing five runs, on two Good Guy homers, in five innings, silencing a big Shea Stadium crowd, set to cheer the Mets on, to take hold of the Good Guys throats. Charlize allowed but two runs in her seven innings of work, and Paradise had a 5-2 decision, to tie the series at two games apiece.
In Game Five, Kate Hudson opposed Tom Glavine again. Glavine was great that night, allowing only two runs in his seven innings of work. A big error hurt Kate, as she ended up giving up four runs, and the game, 4-2 to the Mets, to put New York one win from a World Series. Paradise would have to win games Six and Seven on their home field, or go home early that year.
The teams flew back to Paradise for Game Six. Hernandez would duel Bellows one more time. The Good Guys, their fans cheering them on, jumped on Hernandez for four first inning runs, and never looked back, as Bellows gave up just two runs in his seven innings, to claim a 6-2 win, to tie the series at three all. Game Seven would be for all the marbles on Wednesday night, and one team would go to the World Series, while the other would go home.
Game Seven took place in front of over 50,000 screaming Good Guy maniacs, Charlize Theron would face John Maine. Both pitchers allowed one run, and then settled down. Charlize ended up pitching seven innings, allowing just the one run, while Maine pitched into the eighth, also allowing one run. Paradise needed to be careful, knowing that the Mets would bring Billy Wagner, their fearsome closer, in for more then one inning if needed. Tied, 1-1 in the eighth, Mitch came up, and with a man on, launched a two run bomb, to give Paradise the lead! Hilary Duff tip toed through the ninth, but survived, 3-2, to send Paradise to the World Series, against the Yankees on Saturday night at Yankee Stadium. The team had already played twelve excruciating games against Atlanta and the Mets that October, with perhaps seven more to go against the Yankees.
The Paradise team, suffering from exhuastion, flew to New York to open the World Series against the Yankees. Kate Hudson, who had five days rest, would be the starter, after the Good Guys had been forced to shuffle their rotation, for the NLCS. Her opponent would be Chin Min Wang. Kate allowed one run in the first inning, and another in the second. The Good Guys tied the game with two in the fourth. Then, in the seventh, with Kate still pitching, the Yankees pushed across a run, a lead that Mr Mariano Rivera did not give away, for a 3-2 Yankee win, to open the series. Gil Bellows faced Andy Pettite in Game Two. Bellows allowed two early runs, as Pettite breezed, allowing but one run over his seven innings, and again combining with the bullpen, for a 2-1 Yankees victory, to put them halfway to a title. The Good Guys were down, but not out, and felt good, going home.
After an off day Monday, Game Three took place on Tuesday night, in front of 50,000 plus racous Good Guys fans. Charlize Theron dueled Roger Clemens. Charlize allowed only two runs in six innings. Clemens, however, allowed none, as he combined with Rivera, to shut the Good Guys out, 2-0, to put the Yankees one win from a title. Would Paradise recover, or go down to a sweep? That answer would come on Wednesday night.
On Wednesday, Kate Hudson dueled Chin Min Wang again. This time, the Good Guys struck early, afer being silenced to that point in the series. Paradise knocked Wang around for three runs in the first, and two more in the second. Kate, with a big early lead, had some trouble, but survived seven innings. The bullpen did the rest, shutting down the Yankees, for a 5-3 Good Guy win, their first of the series. Gil Bellows and Andy Pettite faced off on Thursday in Game Five, a game that was not a contest. Paradise, some confidence back now, clubbed Pettite for eight runs in four innings, and the Good Guys cruised to a 12- 1 victory. The last two games, they had played like the Good Guys, after playing like losers in the first three games of the series. They still had a mountain to climb, with Games Six and Seven in the Bronx, with the Yankees still holding the advantage.
After an off day Friday, the teams met for Game Six in New York on Saturday night. Charlize Theron opposed Roger Clemens again. Clemens gave up two early runs. No problem, figured the Yankees? Wrong! Charlize pitched perhaps the game of her career, as, in a classic gut check, she fired a five hit shutout in front of a hostile crowd, striking out nine Yankees, in a 2-0 Good Guy win. The series that had just three days earlier seemed to be over, was now tied, three all, with a deciding Game Seven on Sunday Night.
For Game Seven, Kate Hudson would face Chin Min Wang. All pitchers except Game Six starter Charlize, were available for Paradise. Kate allowed one early run, and so did Wang. Neither team scored again until the eighth, when Ed Burns hit a homer, to silence a huge Yankee Stadium crowd. Paradise was six outs away from pulling off the most improbable comeback in World Series history, after being down three games to none.. Hilary Duff was brought in for two innings. She was fine in the eighth. Then, in the ninth, a bunt hit, was followed by two outs. Duff faced the Yankees Hideki Matsui, their last hope. After two strikes, she got a pitch that was just an inch over the plate, just an inch. Matsui connected, and drove it back. Mitch tracked it, going back to the wall, he leaped, but could not catch it. It was a two run homer, and the Yankees had pulled out a 3-2 Game Seven win. The stunned Paradise Islanders stood on the field, as the Yankees jubliantly celebrated. Then, Paradise made their way to the clubhouse, sitting in stunned silence, before letting the media in. "What can I say. We were one strike away from from the brass ring, and they ripped it right out. We hurt ourselves by falling down three games to none. This is excruciating, but, we will survive, and come back to fight next year" Mitch said, speaking for the stunned Good Guys.
The team flew back to Paradise, where, at 4am, they were met by a nice size crowd at Nassau International, who cheered them for their great season, and their near comeback in the Series.
The next night, the team held it's last tickle party of the year. The featured lee would be Hilary Duff, the "Goat" for the World Series loss. She was tied in a black bra and panties, hands and feet to the bed, in the middle of the fetish club. Catcher Barney began the tickle on Hilary's neck with fingers, as her head shifted, and the giggles began:HEHEHHEHEHEEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! Working down, Center Fielder Burns was next, tickling Hilary on her underarms, sides, ribs, and belly with fingers, as she squealed:HEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHE! Moving down, left fielder Dawson was the next ler, attacking Hilary on her hips, inner thighs, and knees, as her legs bucked:HEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEE! Finally, Mitch positioned himself at Hilary's bare feet, tickling them with fingers, feathers, ice, and an electric toothbrush. Hilary went beserk, wiggling her toes every which way, and screaming with laughter:HEHEHEHEHHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHHEHE! OMG PLEASE NO MORE! IM SORRRY I SCREWED UP THE SERIES! I GIVE UP! NOOOOOOOO! HEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHE! Finally, the tickle ended, and Hilary was untied.
So, it had been a very long, and ultimately painful, October, where the Good Guys "Almost did". Now came the long winter. In spite of the heartbreak, they would be back to fight next year. The fighting Tickle Team From Paradise Island.

The End

Well right there at the end they just couldn't hang on. So the great rivalry continues again. Another great one and I look forward to the next one.

HappyD

Thank you, happy, your praise is appreciated as always. Yes, the fighting Good Guys tried to do what had never been done in a World Series, rally from a three game to none deficit. Alas, they came up just a bit short, but had a good season anyway.
As you know, stay tuned, a new season will be on the horizon soon, likely tomorrow.

Mitch
