Author's Note-Today, August 21, 2007, is Hayden Panettiere's 18th Birthday, so, for the first time, I am including her as a character in my story, which should be legal according to TMF Rules
The Good Guys had a quiet, and painful, winter following their setback in the
World Series. While they had known going in the previous October, that it would be a difficult task to beat the Yankees in the World Series, with New York holding home field advantage, and while they also knew that the World Series that turned into a fight to the death, should have been over much earlier, if the Yankees had not lost three straight games, those facts didn't take away from the other fact, Paradise had won three straight games, to tie the series, and had the lead in the ninth inning of Game Seven, and let it get away. As many of the Good Guys said right after the series, it would almost have been easier to have suffered a sweep, or have lost in six games. The way the Good Guys lost, left a sour, bitter taste in their mouths, and they would have to wait one whole year, and get back to the Series, to attempt to have a shot at redemption.
Before any World Series redemption could even be comtemplated, Paradise had a long regular season to play. That season began on a cool, overcast, 70 degree day in Paradise, against the Mets. Kate Hudson, of course, started for the Good Guys. Kate, coming out of the gate with fire, pitched lights out against the Mets, allowing only one run. The setup relief was fine in the eighth, and, in the ninth, a new face, who had just turned 18, and just joined the Good Guy club, came walking out of the bullpen. 18 year old Hayden Panettiere, a newcomer to the Good Guys, having just turned legal the day before opening day, came out of the bullpen, to try and save the game for Kate Hudson. Hilary Duff, who was, of course, still with the club, had been hit with a flu bug, the night before the opener, and was in bed, at home, with a stomach virus. Hayden, a tall, blonde lefthander, sported a ninety seven mile per hour fastball, and a crackling curve. With only a one run lead, Hayden proceeded to get a groundout, a pop out, and then a strikeout, of the extremely dangerous David Wright, to perserve the Good Guys 2-1 win. After the game, the media asked manager Sniderman about his new closer. "What can I say? She pitches great, and Hilary is out, so, Hayden is here. She is my closer, until Duff gets back. Then, depending on how it goes, I may just use a bullpen by committee. I dont know yet" The manager said. The next day, on Opening Day Two, Gil Bellows was the starter. Paradise got two early runs, and then nothing else. Bellows pitched eight fine innings, punching out nine Metropolitans. In the ninth, Hayden came out of the bullpen again, and set down the middle of the Mets order, to finish Paradise's 2-0 victory. On Wednesday afternoon, in the season;s third game, Charlize Theron got hit hard, for four runs, and nine hits. Paradise tried to rally from a 4-0 deficit, but couldn't, falling short, by a 4-3 score.
Thursday was an off day. Mitch and Naomi attended counesling that day, and then joined the team at the casino. All seemed quiet for the couple, early on.
Atlanta came to town on Friday night. Neve Campbell was on the mound. Paradise got her early run support, with four first inning runs. Then, Campbell took over, allowing two runs in seven innings. Hayden appeared again in the ninth, and picked up her third save, quickly endearing herself to the Paradise faithful, by perserving the Good Guys 4-2 win. Rachel Leigh Cook took a 14-4 bashing on Saturday night. Kate Hudson opposed John Smoltz in the series finale, on a sunny, bright, 82 degree Paradise day, in front of a sellout. That day, Smoltz was not at his best, as the Good Guys hit him for a pair of two run homers. Paradise led, 4-1 in the ninth, when Hilary Duff made her comeback, trying to save the game for Kate. Things got ugly in a hurry, as Duff allowed a hit, a walk, and got hurt by an error. Braves power hitter Mark Texiara then unloaded, taking Hilary WAY downtown for a long homer, to give Atlanta the lead. The sellout crowd booed Hilary unmercifully, for screwing up a win for the beloved Kate Hudson. The girl who had saved so many Good Guys regular season wins, and World Series celebrations, was the goat on that Sunday afternoon. The crowd wasn't in a bad mood for long, though, as Ed Burns tied the game, off Braves closer Bob Wickman, in the bottom of the ninth, with a homer. In the tenth, Hayden appeared, and pitched a scoreless inning. Then, in the bottom half, Mitch came up, and took Braves relief pitcher Rafael Soriano, (nicknamed "Boom Boom", because of his tendency to give up home runs), out of the yard, for a solo blast, to send the crowd home happy, with a 6-5, 10 inning victory. In the clubhouse, the media asked Sniderman about his bullpen: "One win, three saves, is Hayden the new closer, Lee?" Sniderman sighed:" Miss Duff has been our bullpen ace for a long time. She had one bad outing, after being out for a week with the flu. Hayden pitches well, and we are thrilled to have her. Let me just say that I will determine who my ninth inning person is by matchup. It doesnt have to be Hilary, or Hayden, as long as we win the game, I dont care who the hell closes it for me, as long as we win" The manager said, putting an end to the speculation.
Houston came to town on Monday night. Gil Bellows was the starter. Bellows pitched well, allowing two runs in six innings. Paradise, however, committed two errors, and the pen did not pitch well, as Bellows suffered the 3-2 loss. Charlize Theron took the ball on Tuesday night. Charlize had good stuff that night, pitching six innings, allowing but one run, with nine strikeouts. The bullpen then took over, and Duff got the save in the ninth, for a 4-1 win. Neve Campbell took the mound on a sunny, bright, 83 degree Paradise day, in front of a sellout, in the homestand's last game. Neve gave a quality start, six innings, three runs allowed, six strikeouts. In the ninth, the Good Guys led 5-3. With lefthanded hitters coming up, Sniderman decided to play matchup, instead of closer, and brought Hayden in again, to try and get the save. Hayden, after being lights out in her other outings, was not so this time. She allowed a solo homer, and other hits, but, stayed on, to wiggle out of the jam, and get the save, her team leading fourth of the year, in a 5-4 Good Guy win, that completed a six and three homestand. Paradise had gotten off to a good start, and, seemed to have at least a new capable closer to boot, even if the manager wouldn't admit it.
Of course, the team held its Saturday tickle party, following the loss to the Braves. The featured lee, not surprisingly, would be Hayden. She was tied in a bra and panties, hands and feet to the bed, in the middle of the fetish club. Center Fielder Burns began the tickle on Hayden's neck with fingers, as she moved her head, and began to giggle:HEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHE! Working down, left fielder Dawson was next, tickling Hayden on her underarms, sides, ribs, and belly with fingers, as she began to thrash, especially when her extremely ticklish sides were attacked:HEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHHEHHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEH! OMG I COULDNT WAIT TO PITCH FOR YOU GUYS BUT THIS IS SOOOOOO TORTUROUS! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEE! Working down, pitcher Gil Bellows was the next ler, tickling Hayden on her hips, inner thighs, and knees with fingers, as she thrashed, and bucked:HEHEHHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! Finally, expert foot tickler Mitch positioned himself at Hayden's young, soft, barely legal soles. He attacked Hayden's bare feet with fingers, feathers, and an electric toothbrush, over her soles, and toes. Hayden went beserk, wiggling her toes every which way, and squealing with hysterical laughter:HHEEHHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHHHEHEHHEHEHEHE! OMG MY FEEET ARE SOOOOOOOOO TICKLISH! PLEASE STOOOOAPAAAAP! NOOOOOOO! HEHEHEHHEHEHEHHEHEHHEHEHEHEHHEHEHHEHEHEHEHHHHHHEHEHE! Finally, the tickle ended, and Hayden was untied.
On Thursday night, Naomi drove Mitch to Nassau International, so he could begin the first road trip of the year with the team, by catching the flight to JFK Airport in New York. "Good homestand. New young stud closer. All is normal in Paradise land" Naomi joked. "Yep, now off to the road for another season." Mitch said. "Good Luck, and I will see you next Sunday" Naomi said, kissing him.
So, it had been a good opening to the season. The Good Guys had a new closer, and a new lee. Now, came the first road trip. What would happen next? That answer to come in the continuing story of the Tickle Team From Paradise Island.
