The Good Guys embarked on their road trip. After winning two of three in Washington, they lost two of three in Philadelphia, and then won two of three again in Cincinnatti. They returned home, on a Sunday night, to begin a nine game homestand, against the teams they had started the season with.
While Mitch was away on the road trip, things with Naomi did not improve. She was quiet, testy, and accusatory. Mitch was tired of all the problems. The subject of "Wanting Out", was brought up. Both agreed that they did not want out. They had over two decades, three grown children, and a lifetime of memories between them. Mitch did realize, however, that he likely hd extended his baseball career several years longer than he would have, had he been in a really happy marriage with Naomi. While she could always take work as an actress, if they weren't playing baseball, Mitch also could not conceive, at least yet, of the idea of over 300 days a year at home with her. In spite of this, he also knew, that they wouldnt be playing baseball forever. There would come a day, when it would all end. At that point, the situation would have to be evaluated.
When Mitch arrived home on Sunday night, Naomi was waiting for him. Although things between them were far from perfect, Naomi said "Come to bed, and let's just do it. I dont care if we arent getting along great. I didnt have any last time, and I'll be damned if I'm going another ten days without it. We are just going to have to fight through this" Naomi said. Mitch felt like he was being given an order, but, he, too wanted it, so, he agreed without complaint. When they got to bed, and had undressed, Naomi was wearing a black bra underneath her tericloth short robe, a bra which Mitch quickly removed off her, and discarded. They made love, and fell assleep holding each other. The bottom line for both of them, is that they were both brave, but yet, they were both scared. If they hadnt been, they likely would have come apart at the seams long ago, and not hung on as they had.
The next night, the Good Guys opened their nine game homestand, with a game against the Mets. Kate Hudson was on the mound. She pitched well against the rugged Mets lineup, allowing only three runs in six innings. The game was tied, 3-3 in the eighth, when the Good Guys pushed the go ahead run across. Hayden did the rest in the ninth, and Paradise had a 4-3 win.
Gil Bellows pitched on Tuesday night. He got hit a bit harder, giving up four runs into the sixth. The Good Guys trailed, 4-3 in the seventh, when Mitch came up with the bases loaded, and launched a Grand Slam homer. Hayden again saved the day in the ninth, and the Good Guys came away with a 7-4 victory. Charlize Theron took the ball on Wednesday. She gave up only two runs in eight innings, but the Good Guys did not hit that night, getting only one run, and falling, 2-1.
Thursday was an off day. Mitch and Naomi went to counesling that day, with not much to report. "What can I say? We had some words while he was on the road. This homestand, instead of sleeping in seperate rooms, we are sleeping together, and having sex. Maybe everything doesnt have to be peachy between us for us to have physical intimacy. I dont deny that sex is fun, even if we arent always great in our relationship" Naomi said.
Atlanta came to town on Friday night. Neve Campbell was on the mound. Paradise scored five early runs, and never looked back, cruising to a 5-1 win. Although Rachel Leigh Cook took her usual pounding on Saturday night, so too, did the Braves fifth starter. The game was tied, 5-5 in the eighth, when Ed Burns homered with two men on. The Good Guys got through the ninth, and had an 8-5 victory. Kate Hudson opposed John Smoltz, on a sunny, dry, 83 degree Paradise day, in front of a sellout, with the Good Guys looking for the sweep of the Braves. Both pitchers were at their best. Smoltz twirled eight innings, fanning twelve Good Guys, and allowing one run while Kate, too, pitched eight innings, punching out nine Braves, and also allowing one run. In the bottom of the ninth, with the score tied at one, Mitch came up, and launched a solo homer, to send the sellout crowd of 50,000 home happy, with a 2-1 triumph, that completed the three game sweep of the Braves.
After the high of sweeping Atlanta, one would have thought that Paradise would be flying high to play the Astros in the next series. That was not to be. Gil Bellows pitched against them on Monday night. He gave up four runs, while Paradise got none, in a 4-0 loss. Charlize Theron took the ball on Tuesday night. Neve Campbell took the mound, on a sunny, dry, 83 degree Paradise day, in front of a sellout, as the Good Guys looked to avoid being swept by the Astros. Campbell turned in a good effort, allowing but two runs in seven innings. The game was tied, 2-2 in the eighth, when the Good Guys pushed the go ahead run across on a base hit. Hilary Duff closed in the ninth, to give Hayden a day off, and got the save, in a 3-2 Good Guy win, that completed a six and three homestand. It had not been the conventional homestand, due to the sweep of the Braves, and the near sweep by the Astros, but, the final result was all that counted, and, as the team packed to head to New York the next night, all seemed okay.
In the meantime, the team held its Saturday tickle party, following the win against the Braves. The featured lee would be Mitch, who needed a tickling bad, in consideration of his recent tensions. He was tied hands and feet to the bed, in the middle of the fetish club, as his female teammates surrounded him. Kate Hudson began the tickle on Mitch's neck with fingers, as his head shifted, and the laughter began:HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Working down, Neve Campbell was next, tickling Mitch on his underarms, sides, ribs, and belly with fingers, as he howled:HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Moving down, Hayden, who had been a target of tickling many times since she joined the team, got revenge on Mitch, tickling him on his hips, inner thighs, and knees with fingers, as he bucked, and howled some more:HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Finally, Naomi positioned herself at Mitch's feet, and tickled them with her fingers, feathers, and an electric toothbrush over his soles and toes. Mitch went beserk, shaking his feet and wiggling his toes, and howling with laughter, begging for her to top. HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHA! PLEASE NO MORE! GET OFFF MEE AUSSSIEEE! I GIVE UP! NOOOOOO! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Finally, the tickle ended, and Mitch was untied.
On Thursday night, Naomi drove Mitch to Nassau International, so that he could catch the team flight, to JFK Airport in New York, and the beginning of the trip, against the Mets. "Decent homestand this time, both on field, and off. Go off, play well, and I will see you next Sunday night" Naomi said, kissing him goodbye.
