The Good Guys embarked on their next road trip, to California. The trip was a tough one, as they went three and six, losing two of three at each stop of a San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles road trip. They returned home, at midnight on a Sunday, to begin a nine game homestand.
While Mitch was away on the road trip, Naomi and him had resumed their battles. At one point, Mitch said to Naomi: "I need a break from all the fighting". Naomi sent him a wraith filled e-mail. After a sleepless night, Mitch reconsidered his position, and tried to get in touch with Naomi online. At that point, she threw his decision in his face: "YOU wanted a break. So, now you're going to get one. Just see what happens to you, mister, if you try to talk to me, before I'm ready to talk to you!" Naomi spewed. Mitch at that point backed off, and didn't contact Naomi for the rest of the team's road trip. He dreaded what would happen when he got home.
When Mitch arrived home, on Sunday night, the apartment was quiet. It was after midnight, and he quietly made his way into the bedroom. Naomi was under the covers, lying on her belly. Mitch silently undressed, and then heard Naomi's cutting voice: "If you try to get into bed with me, you are going to be very sorry" "I'm not going to get into bed with you. I'll go sleep in the guest room, okay? You dont have to talk to me" Mitch said. "Dont put this on me, Mitchell. You requested a break, so, you got one, and now, you're going to get one for longer, for as long as I fucking feel like it!" Naomi seethed. Mitch didnt say anything else, and left the room.
The next day, the couple said nothing to each other, and that night, the Good Guys opened their nine game homestand, with a game against the Nationals. Kate Hudson was on the mound. Kate was magnificent, firing eight shutout innings. The Good Guys broke a scoreless tie in the eighth, with a solo homer from Ed Burns. Hayden put the Nationals away in the ninth, and the Good Guys had a 1-0 win. Gil Bellows pitched the next night. Paradise scored four runs in the opening inning. Bellows allowed three runs through six innings, and then the bullpen took over, with Naomi, Amanda Bynes, Hilary Duff, and Hayden, shutting the Nationals down the rest of the way, for a 6-1 victory. Charlize took the ball on Wednesday. The game was never a contest, as Charlize got hit hard, and was knocked out in the third inning, of a 5-0 loss.
Thursday was an off day. That day, Naomi refused to go to counesling, telling Mitch she wanted him out of her sight. Mitch got dressed, got $1000 out of the bank, and went to the casino, losing it all. He was beginning to wonder if this was really it. As long as he had Naomi, baseball with all its rigors didnt seem so bad, but, if he didnt have her, the game didnt seem to matter to him anymore. He was likely to be in the Hall of Fame even if he never played another game, and he couldnt see himself continuing, if the situation with her didnt iron itself out.
The Phillies came to town on Friday. Neve Campbell was on the mound. She gave a quality start, allowing three runs in seven innings. Paradise was tied 3-3 in the ninth, when Hayden coughed up a homer. The Good Guys could not recover, and lost, 4-3. Rachel Leigh Cook got lit up on Saturday night, allowing nine runs, in two innings, to a chorus of boos, in a 9-2 defeat.

The Reds entered Paradise on Monday. Gil Bellows went to the hill on Monday night. He pitched a wonderful game, firing seven shutout innings. In the bottom of the seventh, with a man on, left fielder Dawson hit a homer, and the bullpen did the rest, for a 2-0 Good Guys triumph. Charlize Theron pitched on Tuesday. She allowed three runs in six innings, a quality start. In the seventh, with a man on, Naomi served up a long homer to Reds slugger Adam Dunn, earning her a long round of boos. The Good Guys could not rally, and fell, 5-3. Neve Campbell took the mound, on a hazy, humid, day in the high 80s, in front of a sellout. Neve did not pitch well, allowing four runs, and getting knocked out in the fourth inning. The Reds led, 4-1, before the Good Guys exploded for eight runs in the fifth, on three homers. The powerful Reds did not go easy, as manager Elmont Kohler had to go deep into his bullpen, using all his relievers, including Naomi, Amanda Bynes, Hilary Duff, and finally Hayden. to slam the door. The Reds got three more runs, but no more, as Paradise was able to nail down a 9-7 win, that completed a five and four homestand. The Good Guys were clearly not playing up to capabilities, as Mitch's mind was distracted, due to his problems with Naomi. As the team prepared to head to Washington the next night, things were looking very unsettled.

"I told you, Mitchell, I will talk to you when I'm ready. Keep fucking pushing me, and see what happens!" Naomi said, her voice seething with rage with every word. "Okay, fine, Naomi, you win. I wont talk to you. I wont call you this trip, or e-mail you. I'll just leave you alone" Mitch then picked up his suitcase, and headed to the cab, to take him to the airport.
