The Good Guys finished their final road trip of the regular season by going five and four on the nine game trip. They came home, and won two of three from the Mets on the final weekend of the regular season. Now came the dramatic October dance, with the team trying to repeat the success they had the previous year.
The National League Division Series began on a Tuesday, in Paradise, against the Mets. Kate Hudson, of course, was the starter against the Mets Pedro Martinez. Both starters gave up one early run each. Then, in the bottom of the eighth, Paradise put the go ahead run across, on a suicide squeeze. Hayden finished the Mets in the ninth, and the Good Guys had a
2-1 opening game win. Gil Bellows pitched Game Two. He allowed two runs in six innings. The Good Guys trailed, 2-1, before rallying for three runs in the seventh. Hayden once again put the Mets away, and the Good Guys were one win from the NLCS.
After an off day on Thursday, the ballclubs met at Shea Stadium in New York for Game Three on Friday night. Charlize Theron was the starter. She allowed three runs in six innings, and the Good Guys could not recover, getting only two, and falling short, by a 3-2 score. Kate Hudson opposed Pedro again in Game Four. Pedro gave the Good Guys but one run. Inning after inning went by, and the powerful Met offense could score none against Kate. Hayden came in for the ninth, and calmly put the Mets away, sending the Good Guys to the National League Championship Series, with a 1-0 triumph.
The Good Guys flew home to Paradise, where they would have three days to rest before Game One of the NLCS against the Phillies, that Tuesday evening in Paradise. On Tuesday, Gil Bellows faced the Phillies in Game One. Bellows was good, allowing one run in six innings. The game was tied, 1-1 in the seventh, before the Good Guys rallied for two runs. Hayden appeared in the ninth, and put the Phillies down, and the Good Guys had a 3-1, first game win. Charlize Theron would pitch Game Two. In this effort, she was better than her Game Two start in the division series, as on this night, she would allow only two runs into the seventh inning. Paradise rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the sixth, to score three runs, as the bullpen did their job again, and put the team halfway to the World Series, with a 4-2 victory.

The Good Guys took some pressure off him, by scoring three first inning runs. The Phillies rallied, but Paradise kept pouring it on. Finally, in the ninth, the bullpen got the outs they needed, for a 6-4 Good Guy win, that put the Paradise Islanders one win from a World Series. With a three game to one lead, Elmont Koehler decided to use Neve Campbell in Game Five, electing to give Charlize Theron another day's rest. It was a decision he would come to regret, as Neve was clobbered for five runs, and the Phillies sent the series back to Paradise, with a 5-1 Phillies win.
A sellout crowd jammed Good Guy Stadium on Tuesday night for Game Six, with Charlize on the mound, and Kate Hudson waiting for Game Seven, if needed. Charlize was magnificent, allowing only one run in her six innings of work. In the seventh, the Good Guys pushed a run across. Naomi, Amanda Bynes and Hilary Duff got Paradise through the eighth, and then Hayden came in for the ninth, the sellout crowd on their feet. After two outs, she got the dangerous Ryan Howard to strike out, to send the Paradise Islanders to yet another World Series, that Saturday night against the Yankees.

Hayden shut the Yankees down in the ninth, and the Good Guys were one win from another title, and a World Series Sweep, something they had never done, with a 5-2 win, to take a three game to none lead. That night, one would have had to have felt that Paradise was sitting in smug city. While it had happened in the League Championship round, no team had ever taken a three game to none lead in the World Series and gone on to lose the Series. In Game Four, Koehler abandoned the theory of the big lead in the series, and went with Kate Hudson, to try, and finish the Yankees, figuring that if the series went seven games, she could pitch on Sunday night with three days rest. Paradise scored a run here, and a run there. Hudson threw well, with a 5-0 lead, until the sixth, when she ran into trouble, and allowed three runs. Koehler brought Hayden in for the eighth inning, hoping to get a two inning save from his closer to claim the title. Hayden imploded, allowing a hit, a walk, and then a three run homer to Arod, to give the Yankees the lead. A stunned sellout crowd watched, as Mariano Rivera put the Good Guys down in the ninth, and the Yankees had their first win of the series, by a 6-5 score. Bellows would face Pettite again in Game Five. The Good Guys wanted to end the series that night, and did not want to have to board the plane to New York again, where they knew anything could happen. Bellows allowed but one lone run in the eight innings he worked. However, one was the loneliest number for the Good Guys, as, facing elimination, Pettite was stellar, shutting out the Paradise Islanders on four hits, and combining with Rivera, for a 1-0 Yankee win, that would force a Game Six, and sent the series back to New York. The stunned Good Guy crowd, primed those two nights to celebrate a Championship, would now have to watch as their heroes played at least one more game in New York, and have to hope they would win one on enemy territory.

A hit was followed by an out, another hit, and another out. Then, Hayden allowed a walk, bringing up Arod. With the Yankee faithful on their feet, Hayden faced Arod. Two balls were followed by two strikes. Then, Arod hit a bloop to right. Mitch came on, but the dying sinking liner fell in front of him. Two runs came home, and the Yankees, after being down three games to none, were celebrating a World Championship, as the utterly stunned and devestated Good Guys looked on. They had done something that no team had ever done, they had a three game to none lead in the World Series, and leads in Games Four and Seven, with chances to clinch the title, and they could not come through. Rookie manager Koehler had done a wonderful job in guiding the team to within innings of a championship, in a year people figured might be a transition year after all the playoff appearances. Within outs of a World Title, though, was not a World Title, and, of all their Series Faux Paus, this one was probably the worst one yet. After the Good Guys made their way to the clubhouse, Elmont kept the door closed for fifteen minutes, to let his team digest what had happened, then, opened the door to the media. "What can I say? You have to congratulate the Yankees, and give them all the credit in the world. We had them down three games to none, and had leads in potential clinching games, and we could not finish the deal. They came back, and we could not do it. Does it hurt? You bet it does! This team has a lot of heart, though, and we will survive, and come back to get them next year" Elmont said, trying to put a positive spin on the heartbreak.
The team returned to Paradise Island late on Sunday night, and, on Monday, held their traditional last tickle party of the year, before everyone scattered for the winter. The featured lee would be Hayden, whom people "Blamed" for the team blowing the World Series. She was tied in a bikini bathingsuit, hands and feet to the bed, in the middle of the fetish club. So, it had been an October of "We almost did" that ended in heartbreak for the Good Guys. Now came the long, cold, lonely winter. With all their heartbreak and humiliation of having a three game to none lead, and not being able to finish the mission, the solace for the Paradise Islanders was that they always would have next year to fight and come back. Yes, there would always be next year, for the team that fell just short, from Paradise Island.
