The Good Guys had a very quiet, and very painful, winter, following their devastating, and humilating, loss in the World Series. In previous years, they had either gone down quickly, or not painlessly, or, if the loss had been frustrating, they had played like champions, battling to the end. This time, they had the brass rings, in the palms of their hands, and had four opportunites, needing to win only one game, to gain back to back titles. They blew all four chances, something no team had ever done before in the one hundred year history of the World Series. The loss left the team with a frustration and devestation that could not be described. It seemed as though the team was branded. Everywhere that any member of the team showed their face that winter, they seemed to be met with a look of :"Well, ummm, you could have had it, but you...". The worst part, for the rookie manager Koehler, and the team, was that they all would have to play a full season, and wait a full calendar year, to have another shot at the Title, and hopefully, the Yankees. There was rumor after the Series ended that Elmont had lost control of his ballclub during the Series, and that Lee Sniderman would replace him as manager, with Elmont being offered a coach's job, so as not to be fired completely, for recognition of getting to the seventh game of the World Series. After discussion with Lee, it was decided this was not the route to take. They had suffered a team loss, and it would be unfair to blame just one man, especially after he had gotten them to the seventh game of the World Series, and within an inning of a championship. To fire a manager for that, would be almost cruel. They decided to stay the course, and keep Elmont as manager, and Lee in the General Manager's office, with the goal of a much happier ending in October that year.
Before any Octobers, or any endings, could be contemplated, the team needed a beginning, to the regular season that is, which came on a Monday, against the Mets in Paradise. Kate Hudson, of course, was the opening day starter. Kate pitched well, allowing but one run, in six innings, in front of a sellout crowd, in 80 degree sunshine. The game was tied, 1-1 in the eighth, when a base hit pushed across a run. Hayden sealed the deal in the ninth, and Opening Day had a happy ending for the Good Guys, with a 2-1 win. The next afternoon, Gil Bellows pitched. Gil allowed an early three run homer, and
Paradise could not recover, dropping the contest, by a 3-0 score. Charlize Theron took the ball on Wednesday afternoon. The Mets hit her around a bit, scoring four runs in five innings. Paradise trailed, 4-1 in the seventh, before rallying for four runs. Things got hairy in the ninth, but Hayden got the outs she needed, for a 5-4 Good Guy victory.
Thursday was an off day. That day, Mitch and Naomi showed up to counesling: "It's a relief to have the season started. We dont have to think about last year anymore. All winter long, it was almost like Naomi and I couldnt look at each other, as if we couldnt leave it on the field. We know we have a lot of work to do, and even before that, have over six months before we can think of another shot at the Yankees, but, at least we are back on the field, competing, and that is a big help" Mitch said firmly.
Atlanta came to town on Friday night, for the first night game of the season. Neve Campbell was on the hill. Neve got hit hard, allowing five runs in six innings. Paradise was behind, 5-3 in the eighth, before coming up with three runs. Hayden finished off the ninth, and the Good Guys had a come from behind, 6-5 triumph. Rachel Leigh Cook pitched a decent game on Saturday night, giving up three runs in six innings. Unfortunately, the Good Guys could score only two runs that night, and lost, 3-2. Kate Hudson opposed John Smoltz, on a sunny, dry, 83 degree Paradise day, in front of a sellout. Smoltz made three bad pitches, all good for Good Guy homers, as Kate shut the Braves down with nothing at all, spinning a three hitter, with ten strikeouts, in a 3-0 win.
Houston visited Paradise on Monday, for the final series of the homestand. Gil Bellows pitched on Monday night. He was brilliant, allowing but four hits, as the Good Guys got only a two run homer from Ed Burns on offense. It was all enough, however, for a 2-0 victory. Charlize Theron pitched on Tuesday night, and got beat up, allowing six runs in five innings, of a 6-2 loss. Neve Campbell took the mound, on a sunny, dry, 84 degree Paradise Wednesday, in front of the usual getaway day sellout. Neve pitched a very good game, giving up only one run in six innings, and striking out nine. She left leading the game 2-1, but the Good Guy bullpen gave that back in the seventh, allowing Houston to tie the score. In the eighth, with a man on, Mitch came up, and launched a two run homer, into the bullpen in right field. Hayden had a bit of trouble in the ninth, but got out of it, and the Good Guys had a 4-3 win, that completed a very fine opening season six and three homestand. If the Good Guys were to get back to the Series, they would need many homestands such as this one, and they were off to a good start.
In the meantime, the team held their first tickle party of the year, following the loss to Atlanta, on Saturday night. The featured lee would be a reporter from Philadelphia, Erin O Hearn, on vacation in Paradise that week. Ms O Hearn, an auburn haired beauty, had covered the story of a tickling bandit, who had been loose in the city, in the recent past, before being caught. Erin was tied in a bra and panties, hands and feet to the bed, in the middle of the fetish club. Center Fielder Burns began the tickle on Erin's neck with fingers, as her head shifted, and the giggles began:HEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEEH! Moving down, left fielder Dawson was next, tickling Erin on her underarms, sides, ribs, and belly with fingers, as she thrashed, and squealed:HEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! Working down, second baseman Russell was the next ler, attacking Erin on her hips, inner thighs, and knees, causing her legs to buck:HEHEEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! Finally, Mitch positioned himself at the pretty reporter's bare feet, and tickled them with his fingers, feathers, ice, and an electric toothbrush over her soles, toes, as well as the bottoms of her toes, and inbetween her toes. Erin went beserk, wiggling her toes every which way, and squealing with hysterical laughter:HEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! OMG PLEASE NO MORE! I GIVE UP! IM SOOOO TICKLISH! NOOOOO! HEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEEHEHEHE! Finally, the tickle ended, and the hot reporter was untied.
On Thursday night, Naomi drove Mitch to Nassau International Airport, so that he could catch the team flight to JFK Airport in New York. "Good first homestand. We are doing okay. This all looks good so far. Have a good trip, and I will see you next Sunday night" Naomi said, kissing Mitch goodbye.
