The Good Guys had a very quiet and celebratory winter following their latest championship. They had the usual social obligations, parties, and celebrations associated with being the baseball champions of the world. The previous autumn, they had been in hiding, licking their wounds from the worst collapse in World Series history. Now, all that was a memory, as they basked in the glory of being the baseball champions of the world.
With the team ownership in a generous mood due to the championship, management quickly arrived at agreements with all the players for contracts for the following year. There were, however, a couple of snags. Considering the bitterness that had existed between Mitch and Naomi over the recent months, it was not known if either of them wanted to play baseball the following year. The team brass kept their respectful distance, allowing the couple time to sort through their difficult issues. Mitch and Naomi took a vacation to far down islands over the Christmas holidays. They walked on the beach, gambled, soaked in the warm sun, and tried to arrive at agreement of how to keep their union alive. When they returned to Paradise on January 2nd, they quickly called Elmont Koehler and Lee Sniderman, and met with them, to sign contracts for the following year. "We're thrilled to have you both back. We weren't sure you would be returning" : Lee said. "Well, we had some heart to heart talks while we were away, and I think we just settled some things. We'll be ready to go in spring training" Mitch said.
The Good Guys had a solid spring training, and opened the new season on a sunny, 80 degree Monday afternoon, against the Mets. Kate Hudson, of course, was the starter. Kate gave up two solo homers in her seven innings of work, and struck out nine Mets. The game was tied, 2-2 in the eighth, when Mitch hit a solo homer. Hayden came on in the ninth, and saved the game, to send the sellout crowd home happy, with a 3-2 opening day win.
Gil Bellows started on opening day two. Gil allowed an early Grand Slam homer, and the Good Guys could not recover, scoring no runs, and lost,
4-0. Charlize Theron pitched on Wednesday afternoon. Charlize gave up three runs in six innings, and struck out six. The Good Guys trailed, 3-1 in the seventh, before rallying for three runs to take the lead. Hayden got into some trouble in the ninth, but managed to get out of it, and the Good Guys had a 4-3 victory, to win the opening series.
Thursday was an off day. That day, Mitch and Naomi showed up to counesling, in a chipper mood: "We are getting along pretty well. The team celebrated their title. We took two out of the first three games of the year from the Mets. Things are looking good. Hopefully, we will have a fine season" Mitch said.
Atlanta came to town on Friday night. Neve Campbell was on the hill. Neve got hit hard, allowing four runs and seven hits in less than six innings. Paradise was behind, 4-2, in the eighth, before exploding for five runs in the bottom of the inning, on two home runs. Hayden put the Braves down in the ninth, and the Good Guys took the game, 7-4. Rachel Leigh Cook pitched on Saturday night, and was bombed in her first outing, losing 6-2. Kate Hudson opposed John Smoltz, on a picture perfect, dry, 82 degree Sunday, in front of a sellout. Kate gave up a first inning solo homer, and then surrendered nothing. Smoltz was hit for a run in the fifth. The game remained tied until the bottom of the eighth, when a bloop hit brought home the go ahead run. Hayden had to relieve Kate in the ninth, as Kate had struck out ten Braves, and thrown a ton of pitches. Hayden got through the inning, for a 2-1 Good Guys triumph, as the team beat a very tough opponent, and an extremely tough starting pitcher in Smoltz.
Houston entered Paradise on Monday night, for the final series of the homestand, before the Good Guys would hit the road for the first time that year. Gil Bellows pitched on Monday night, and fired a shutout, as the Good Guys got only one run, but won the game, 1-0. Charlize Theron started the game on Tuesday night. Charlize got hammered, being torched for six runs in five innings, as the Good Guys could not rally, and were defeated, 6-3. Neve Campbell had the ball on a sunny, dry, 83 degree Paradise day, in front of a sellout. This time, Neve pitched better, allowing three runs in six innings. The game was tied, 3-3 into the ninth, before the Good Guys got the winning run on a base hit, as they finished the homestand in dramatic fashion, with a 4-3, bottom of the ninth inning win, to completed a very fine first homestand of the year at six wins, three losses. The terrible friction between Mitch and Naomi that had existed at the end of the previous season, had seemed to have abated for now. As the team packed to head away on the first road trip of the year, beginning in New York, all looked well.
In the meantime, the team held its first tickle party of the year, following the Saturday night loss to the Braves. The featured lee would be cute CNN Headline News Anchor Robin Meade, in town on vacation that week. The pretty brunette was tied hands and feet to the bed in the middle of the fetish club. Center Fielder Burns began the tickle on Robin's neck with fingers, as she giggled:HEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEE! Working down, second baseman Russell was next, tickling Robin on her underarms, sides, ribs, and belly with fingers, as she squealed:HEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEE!
Moving down, left fielder Dawson was the next ler, attacking Robin on her hips, inner thighs, and knees with fingers, as her legs bucked, and she cackled: HEAHHEHEHEHAHEHEHEHEHEHAHAHEHEEHEHEHEEHEHEHE! Finally, Mitch positioned himself at Robin's cute bare feet. Mitch tickled Robin's feet with his fingers, two feathers, and an electric toothbrush over her soles and toes. Robin went beserk, she wiggled her toes every which way, and squeaked with laughter and giggles:HEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! OMG PLEASE NO MORE TICKLE! I GIVE UP! NOOOOO! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! Finally, the tickle ended, and Robin was untied.
With the couple having better times, Naomi drove Mitch to Nassau International Airport on Thursday evening, so he could catch the team plane to John F Kennedy Airport in New York: "Good first homestand. We are getting along well. Go off, play well, and I will see you next Sunday night, and let's hope this roll we are on can continue" Naomi said, giving Mitch a long kiss goodbye.
So, it had been a very tranquil first homestand for Mitch, Naomi, and the team. Now came the first road trip of the year. Would the good times continue? That answer to come in the continuing story of the Tickle Team From Paradise Island.
