The Good Guys finished their final regular season road trip to Washington, Philadelphia, and Cincinnatti with a five and four record. They returned home to Paradise, to begin the Dance Of October, which would have only one acceptable outcome in their minds.

The National League Division Series opened on a Tuesday, in Paradise, against the Atlanta Braves. Kate Hudson opposed John Smoltz in Game One. Both pitchers pitched well, of course, but a Braves error opened the door for two Good Guys runs, which was enough for Kate to emerge victorious, by a
2-1 score. Gil Bellows faced Tim Hudson in Game Two. The Good Guys scored three runs off Hudson, and Bellows allowed only one to the Braves, combining with the bullpen, for a 3-1 victory, and a two game to none lead in the best of five series.

After an off day Thursday, the teams met in Atlanta for Game Three on Friday night. Tom Glavine started for the Braves, against Charlize Theron for Paradise. Glavine got hit hard, allowing four runs in six innings. Charlize was not at her best, allowing nine hits and three runs, but the bullpen came through, and Hayden was on the mound for the final out, as the Good Guys completed the sweep of the Braves, 4-3, to send them to the National League Championship Series, against the Mets, beginning in Paradise on Tuesday night.

Kate Hudson, with a week's rest, because the Good Guys had swept the Division Series, would start Game One for Paradise. The Mets countered with Pedro Martinez. Pedro was good, but Kate was better, shutting out the powerful Met offense for eight innings, as Pedro had allowed two runs. The Good Guys prevailed, 2-0, to draw first blood. Gil Bellows pitched Game Two. He was hit around, allowing three runs. The Good Guys, trailing 3-2, used several hits to score three runs in the seventh, for a 5-3 lead they would not relinquish, to take a two game to none lead.

The teams flew to New York, where, after taking Thursday off, they played Game Three on Friday night. Charlize Theron pitched for Paradise. She allowed only one run, but it was enough for the Mets, as their starter John Maine shut out the Good Guys, 1-0, to give the Mets their first win. Kate Hudson would face Pedro again in Game Four. This time, Kate was not as good, allowing three runs in six innings. Pedro was near perfect, giving up only one hit, a homer, as the Mets tied the series, with a 3-1 win, that tied the series at two games all. Gil Bellows started Game Five. It was a wild, seesaw game, that went back and forth. The Mets surged ahead, and the Good Guys fought back. Finally, the game went to extra innings, where, in the tenth, the Good Guys pushed across three runs. They almost let the Mets back into it, but the New Yorkers fell one run short, and the Good Guys, after three difficult games in New York, headed back to Paradise, needing only one win to finish the Mets.

Good Guy Stadium was very loud on Tuesday night, with Charlize on the mound, and the crowd wanting her to end the series. Paradise provided their fans with excitement, scoring five runs in the first inning. Once again, the Mets would not go away, as they got right back into the game. The Mets eventually tied the game, but the Good Guys scored a run in the bottom of the eighth. In the ninth, with men on base, Hayden struck out the dangerous David Wright, to give the Good Guys the National League title. The fans were happy, but the players were reserved. "This is nice, but, we have one more hurdle to jump over, before we can let loose" Mitch said.

The Good Guys had four days to rest, before opening the World Series in Paradise, against the Yankees, on Saturday night. It gave Sniderman and Koehler time to work out with the team, and prepare the rotation. Who else but Kate Hudson would get the Game One nod for Paradise.

On Saturday night, more than 60,000 rocking Good Guys fans packed Good Guy Stadium. The Good Guys got the fun started early, as Mitch hit a first inning two run homer. Hudson was magnificent, firing eight innings of two hit, one run ball, combining with Hayden, for a 2-1 opening game win. Gil Bellows pitched Game Two. He was hit harder than Kate, as the Yankees got to him for seven hits and three runs. The game was tied in the seventh, before Paradise came up with three runs. The bullpen held on to the lead, as the team was halfway to the title, with a 6-3 victory.

The teams flew to New York, and had a workout day Monday, before playing Game Three, at the House That Ruth Built, Yankee Stadium, on Tuesday night. Charlize Theron started for Paradise, and it was no contest, as the Yankees smashed her for five runs, and the Good Guys could get only two, and the Yankees had their first win, 5-2. Kate started Game Four. She allowed but one run in six innings. Paradise broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth, with three runs. In the ninth, with men on base, Hayden got the final out, for a 4-2 Good Guy win, that put Paradise one win from a party. The party would not come in Game Five, as Bellows got hit hard, allowing five runs. The Good Guys tried to creep back, falling one run short, and sending the series back to Paradise, with a 5-4 Yankee victory.

After an off day Friday, the teams met at Good Guy Stadium on Saturday night. 60,000 fans were ready for a party. Charlize Theron would try to give it to them. Inning after inning went by, however, with no runs. In the seventh, third baseman Michael committed an error, allowing a Yankee run. The run was all the Yankees would need, as they stunned the Good Guy sellout crowd, with a 1-0 Yankee win, that tied the series at three games all, and forced Game Seven, for all the marbles, on Sunday night. The Good Guys were stoic in the postgame interviews : "You have to give them credit, they prevailed, in our house, and now, we have to win the last game, for this season to end happily" Mitch said, in the postgame interviews. Even more troubling to the Good Guys was that ace Kate Hudson had shoulder stiffness. After the game, Koehler and Sniderman talked to her in the clubhouse. "Dont be a hero, Katie. This game is for everything. If your arm hurts, we need to know. If you're okay, I'll give you the ball" Koehler said. Hudson nodded : "I'm okay. I can give you six innings, I think. It isnt that bad. I have four months to rest after this" Hudson said

On Sunday night, before over 60,000 fans, on a warm, moonlit night, the teams played Game Seven of the World Series. Hudson was nicked for a run in the first inning, but the Good Guys got it right back. The game was tied,
1-1, when Hudson was removed after 100 pitches in the sixth. She had given a truly gritty effort, with a stiff arm. In the bottom of the seventh, the Good Guys scored three runs, on a homer, and two doubles. The crowd was ready to let loose, until the Yankees shut them up again, with two runs in their half of the eighth. In the bottom half, leading 4-3, Mitch hit a long solo homer, and the crowd relaxed some, with the team now having a two run lead. The Good Guys went out for the ninth, three outs away from rebounding from the most humiliating World Series loss in history. A strikeout was followed by a ground ball to first. Then, the last Yankee hitter, Arod, hit a long fly ball to right. Mitch was tracking it, but the crowd knew it would not go out. Mitch yelled: "I got it!" , and, with his back to the right field fence, put it in his glove! The World Series was over, and the Good Guys were champions of the world once more! After Mitch caught the ball, he dropped to one knee, squeezing his glove, and looking up to the sky, tears in his eyes, as Ed Burns came over, the two men hugged, and then hugged left fielder Dawson, before running into the infield, and joining in the wild celebration with their twenty five teammates. The crowd was going ballisitic, as "We Are The Champions" blared over the PA system. It was the happiest feeling!

The team retreated to the clubhouse, for the trophy presentation, and interviews. "Whew, we were lucky. I have to admit, when we lost last night, I was hoping we wouldnt come up short again. This was a brutally hard fought World Series, but I'm thrilled that we came out on top, and gave our fans something to feel good about, after as horribly as we played in last year's World Series. The Yankees are a hell of a team, but this year, thankfully, we were just a little bit better" Mitch said.

After the celebration, the entire team went out for a celebration, and relaxing dinner. They were exhuasted, but they were proud. It felt much better to be the World Champions, then to be sitting on the other side of the fence.

The team had the traditional victory parade that Monday, having not had much sleep. At the podium, they pulled a fast one, where, when the female mayor of Paradise was giving a speech, a bed was brought over, and she was carried to it, tied down, and placed there :"Hey, what is going on!" She was surrounded by the team, and a tickling began. Center Fielder Burns began the tickle on the mayor's neck with fingers, as her head shifted, and the giggles began:HEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEEHE! Working down, pitcher Gil Bellows was next, attacking the mayor on her underarms, sides, ribs, and belly with fingers:HEHHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHHHHEHEHEHEHEHHEE! Moving down, Catcher Barney was the next ler, tickling the mayor on her hips, inner thighs, and knees with fingers, causing her legs to buck:HEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEEHE! Finally, Mitch went over to the mayor, and removed her shoes, as she closed her eyes. Her feet were brutally ticklish, and she knew what was coming. Mitch used his fingers, and two feathers, over the mayor's soles and toes. The mayor went beserk, wiggling her toes every which way, and squealing with laughter! HEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHE! OMG MY FEET ARE TOO TICKLISH! STAHPPPP! NOOOOOO! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHHEHEHEHEHEHE! Finally, the tickle ended, and the exhausted mayor was untied.

So, it had been a season with an ultimate happy ending for the Good Guys. Now came a much more satisfying winter than the one previously, and, of course, there would be next year, for the Tickle Championship team from Paradise Island.

The End
