If we took music out of the General Forums then all would would have is...

Size of your Penis
Size of your Busts
Shoe Size
and the like.
Also something about what your favorite thing to eat is.

I like having music in the Gen. Discussion.
On a slow topic day in the TMF all it takes is a music post or 2 to liven the people up.

Besides right now, there are more Size of threads than music threads. Perhaps we need a "Size discussion Sub-Forum"

You silly.
Now go and create me a thread on whether people like White/Wheat/Rye or Sourdough bread. :)

Personally, I agree with Robace.

Currently I like to see music in general Discussion. If I sunforum it, I'd also see a need for a set of Bookm Movie, Video Game, and Comic Book subforums also. So no, no plans to split it currently.

I seriously think if there's a TMF Sports forum, TMF Humor (and TMF Silly Stuff) forum, there should be a music forum.

Music/Movies are just as interesting/important (if not more-so) than these other subforums. Not to mention, I think more people would be able to contribute to threads in such a subforum than say a "sports" forum.

Mairead makes an excellent point. If we're to follow the pattern we've been following it makes total sense to create a subforum for music and movies. I personally would enjoy spending a lot of time there.

But here's the problem as I see it. General Discussion was created to give people a break from talking only about tickling. It's discription is "for all discussions not related to tickling."

Then it became for all discussions not related to tickling or politics or religion.
Then it became for all discussions not related to tickling, politics, religion, humor, or silly stuff.
Then it became for all discussions not related to tickling politics, religion, humor, silly stuff, sports, and celebration.

With each topic yanked out of General Discussion, it suffered a blow. It's now already deteriorated to the point where it's often difficult to distinguish the content from that in Silly Stuff. It's mostly Ha-ha-I-gotcha high school pranks with rick rolls, photo manipulations, Net Tard, and You-Tube reposts. Many of the long time regulars can't stand it any more and have abandoned it altogether.

If we take music and movies out of General Discussion, we take away two of the last few legitimate major topics discussable. And for what? It's not like we can't discuss music and movies to our hearts' content in General. How does making a new forum make these topics any easier to discuss?

The TMF is in essence, a tickling forum. Does anybody besides me find it interesting that most of the subforum expansion has occurred in General Discussion while there's been absolutely zero expansion in Tickling Discussion?

I say this not as a criticism but merely a point of curiosity. I would have thought it would be the other way around--That the topic of that which supposedly interests us the most would be the one to be divided up into numerous subtopic forums. Feet tickling. Tickle Torture. Playful and mischievous Tickling, etc.

I guess my point is, if you want a music and/or movie forum in which no other topics are permitted to mix in, well they are already out there. Go for it.

Both Politics and Sports have an element of advisarial debate about them. In both cases these topics were lifted out of GenDis to aid in isolation of moderation issues.

Humor, Silly, and Announce were split off as a form of content control. While fun and often important, the information in these forums is narrow focus material, and not intended for discussion or debate. It's to say 'congratulations' (Announce) Post count inflate, or have some fun (Silly) or just amuse (Humor) As each of these gets a LOT of traffic they overwhelmed GenDis to the point that other topics were crowded out.

Movies and Music don't seem to be crowding other topics off page 1 of GenDis.

As I have said several times, they do not have the mass to support a subforum in my eyes. They also supply a popular element of discussion in GenDis that many people go there to see, and Ghetoizing them will not serve the Main GenDis forum well.

So no. There is no change of mind on this topic.
