The Good Guys had a very quiet winter following their setback in the World Series. Each member of the team arrived at contract agreements for the following year quickly, allowing the players to relax mentally and physically, to prepare for the upcoming season.
During the winter, an interesting development occurred: Naomi was offered a movie role. The role called for her to fly to Los Angeles for two months. Unlike in other winters, when she had taken a movie role, that year featured a new development. Mitch and Naomi had a girlfriend now. Although they had known Cathy for over a year, the issue hadn't come up the previous winter, as Naomi did not take any movie roles. Now, the situation had to be addressed. The three went out to dinner, and discussed the circumstance. "I work so infrequently in the movies, that I really want to take this. I could have Mitch come to L.A. with me, but I know he would be bored, because I'm going to be working 15 to 18 hours a day, and probably reading lines, and not available for anything. I could ask that the two of you not see one another while I'm gone, but that wouldn't be realistic. Cathy could simply move on to another man, and as for you, Mitchell, while I trust you, it wouldnt seem fair. So, here is what can happen. You guys can meet, and do whatever. I dont care, because it's not cheating, and Cathy is our girlfriend, and we have sex with her all the time. Unlike the gloomy 72 degree overcast day the team had started the season on the previous year, this day was an 80 degree masterpiece, with bright sunshine. Gil Bellows got the opening day start. He was briliant, shutting out the Mets for six innings, before the bullpen came to his aid. Paradise got only one run, a solo homer by Mitch. It was enough to hold off the Mets, however, for a 1-0 Good Guys win. Charlize Theron pitched on opening day two. The Good Guys scored two first inning runs, and Theron gave up a solo homer. Once again, Theron came out after only six innings, and the bullpen finished the work, with Kate Hudson getting her second save of the young season, in a 2-1 Paradise triumph. Neve Campbell got hit hard on Wednesday afternoon, giving up four runs. Paradise could not rally, and was defeated, 4-3.
Thursday was an off day. That day, Mitch and Naomi attended counseling for the first time in months. "Things are continuing with Cathy. I'm happy with my movie role, and the team seems to have started out well. Hopefully, it all will continue. " Naomi said.
Atlanta came to town on Friday night. That year, Elmont Koehler made a switch in the rotation. He moved Hayden back to the number four spot in the pitching order, feeling she was a better pitcher than Rachel Leigh Cook. His decision paid off, as Hayden allowed only two runs in seven innings. The Good Guys trailed 2-1 in the eighth, before exploding for four runs, and an eventual 5-2 win. Cook did pitch on Saturday, and of course got hit hard, allowing seven runs, in a 7-4 defeat. Gil Bellows had the ball, as the Good Guys tried to rebound on a sunny, dry, 80 degree day in front of a sellout. The Braves countered with Tim Hudson, as John Smoltz was on the disabled list. "The other" Hudson, and Bellows each gave up only one run in eight innings. Kate Hudson put the Braves down in the ninth, and then in the bottom half, Ed Burns sent the sellout crowd home happy, with a solo homer, for a 2-1 Good Guys victory.
Houston entered Paradise on Monday, for the last series of the homestand. Charlize Theron gave up but one run in six innings on Monday night, but lost, as Paradise could get no runs, in a 1-0 defeat. Neve Campbell pitched on Tuesday night. She kept the damage limited, giving up two runs in six innings. Paradise rallied from a 2-0 deficit in the eighth, to score three times, for a 3-2 win. Hayden had the ball on Wednesday afternoon, a sunny, dry, 85 degree one, in front of a sellout. Hayden's stuff was electric that day, as she struck out ten, and gave up only one run. The game was tied in the seventh at one, when Mitch came up, and hit a Grand Slam homer. The Good Guys had some trouble in the eighth and ninth innings, but Kate Hudson saved the day, in a 5-3 Good Guy win, that completed a fine six and three homestand. The season seemed to be off to a good start for the team, and now, as they prepared to head to New York on the first road trip of the season, things were looking good.

A couple of Benjamins from me, and that dom can give you the same treatment she gave Cathy" Mitch said, with a grin. "Yeah, whatever, American, idle threats.
