The Good Guys embarked on their next road trip, this time to the midwest. It was a very rocky road trip. After the team won two out of three games in Pittsburgh, they proceeded to lose two of three in both Chicago, and St Louis.
While the team was away on the road trip, Mitch's recurring ear problem seemed to improve gradually, and, by the end of the trip, appeared to have completely abated. By Sunday, the day the Good Guys were to return to Paradise Island from the road trip in St Louis, he was feeling great.
That Sunday evening, Mitch returned to Paradise with a bounce in his step. Although the road trip to the midwest had been far from successful, he appeared chipper as he greeted Naomi. "Get dressed, I'm taking you out to dinner. Let's go fetch the Fatty, stuff our faces, and go blow some cash at the casino" Mitch said. "Are you sure, Mitchell? Aren't you tired after that long trip? Wouldnt you rather..?" Naomi asked. "Will you please shut up and get some clothes on, before I carry you in the bedroom, hold you down, and tickle you to death until you laugh yourself silly. I told you, I'm fine. Let's go out" Mitch said. Naomi got dressed, and called Cathy, to inform her that they were coming over. Mitch and Naomi then went to Cathy's apartment. Cathy appeared to be tired, and not ready for much excitement. "Hey, preggers, what's new?" Mitch said, giving Cathy a big kiss in greeting. "Oh, not much, just getting fatter and fatter by the day, and more tired" Cathy replied. "Get dressed, I want to take you out to dinner" Mitch said. Cathy shook her head. "No thanks, I'm tired" She replied. "What is it with you women? You both sit here for ten days, and do little, while I'm on the road, traveling from city to city every few days. I come home, and I am ready to go out and party, and the two of you are acting like a couple of old women, who are only actually in their 30s?" Mitch snapped. "Well, let's see, Mitchell, did you ever think I might be tired because of this ten pound weight I'm carrying in my front? You think thats fun to carry around for nine months, hmmmm?" Cathy shot back, getting unchacteristically snippy. "Okay, honey, I'm sorry. I just wanted us to go have some fun. Tomorrow night is back to the baseball grind for Nai and me, and I just want to go blow off some steam" Mitch said. Cathy sighed. "Okay, I'll get dressed, and you can take us out to dinner, but no casino. After dinner, I want to come home and sleep" Cathy said. "That's fine, you, Nai, and I will come back here, hunker down in bed, and tickle each other" Mitch said. "We'll see how much tickling there is" Cathy said.
The three went to the hotel, and downed a steak dinner, then went back to Cathy's apartment, where, when she removed her clothes, Mitch couldnt resist a jab. "Boy, you are getting fat, eeew, I cant stand the sight of you" Mitch said, in jest. "Fuck you, Mitchell. If you didnt get me pregnant, I wouldnt look this way": Cathy retorted. The three horsed around in bed, and Mitch had sex with both women, until everyone fell assleep.
The next night, the Good Guys began their nine game homestand at the ballpark, with a game against the Giants. Gil Bellows started. Mitch, feeling energized, came up in the very first inning, and thrilled the crowd, with a long solo homer. The Good Guys hit three other homers, and Bellows pitched a two hit shutout, in a 4-0 win. Charlize Theron pitched on Tuesday night. Charlize gave up three runs in six innings, and Paradise rallied from a 3-0 deficit, scoring four times in the eighth, for a 4-3 victory. Neve Campbell took the ball on Wednesday night. Neve got hit hard, allowing five runs. The Good Guys trailed 5-1 in the eighth, before exploding for five runs, on two homers, by Mitch, and left fielder Dawson. Kate Hudson sealed the deal in the ninth, and the Good Guys completed the three game sweep of the Giants, with a 6-5 triumph.
Thursday was an off day. That day, Mitch and Naomi attended counseling for the first time in a while. "I havent seen you two for a bit. How are things?" The therapist asked. "Well, the team swept the Giants, Nai and I are okay, The Fatty is being a pain in my ass, but I guess thats to be expected for a pregnant woman. Otherwise, it seems okay. My ear is better, which means thank heavens I can do my job and play" Mitch said. "Must be nice not to have a crisis for a change" The couneslor said. "Yes, now I'm just counting the days off the calendar, so we can get back to the playoffs, and hopefully beat the Yankees, but I know we have some other baseball to play, and win, before that can happen" Mitch said.
San Diego came to town on Friday night. Rachel Leigh Cook pitched, and gave up three runs, but the Good Guys got only two, and lost, 3-2. Hayden took the ball on Saturday night, and the Good Guys scored five runs in the opening inning, to take the pressure off her. Hayden allowed two runs in six innings, and combined with the bullpen, for a 5-2 win. Gil Bellows opposed Padres ace Jake Peavy on Sunday, a sunny, dry, 85 degree day, in front of a sellout. Both pitchers, as expected, pitched extremely well, with Peavy going eight innings, and striking out sixteen Good Guys, including Mitch five times, and Bellows also firing eight scoreless frames, with nine strikeouts. The game went to the eleventh, where the Good Guys loaded the bases, and won the game on a base hit, by a 1-0 score.
The Dodgers entered Paradise on Monday, for the homestand's last series. Charlize pitched on Monday night. She allowed only three hits, shutting out LA for eight innings, as the Good Guys hit three solo homers. Kate Hudson gave up a solo homer in the ninth, but the Good Guys prevailed, winning a 3-1 decision. Neve Campbell pitched on Tuesday night. Neve pitched much better than she had in her previous outing, giving up only two runs in six innings. Paradise, however, did little hitting that night, and succumbed, 2-1. Rachel Leigh Cook had the ball on Wednesday afternoon, a sunny, dry, 87 degree masterpiece, in front of a getaway day sellout. Cook gave up four runs, on two homers. The Good Guys trailed, 4-1, going to the bottom of the eighth, before erupting for four eighth inning runs. Kate Hudson had to do some work in the ninth, but she did, striking out the extremely dangerous Manny Ramirez for the final out, as the Good Guys completed a 5-4 win, that finished off an excellent seven and two homestand. After the lethargy that had existed the previous three weeks, the Good Guys were finally getting good performances from their players, especially from Mitch, and, as the team prepared to head to California the next evening, all looked stable.
In the meantime, the team held its Saturday tickle party, following the win over the Padres. The featured lee would be closer Kate Hudson, target of a "Just because" tickle, due to the fact that she hadn't been tickled for a while. Kate was dragged to the tickle table, and stripped to a bra and panties,. and then tied to the table with rope. "Fuck you, Australian, why dont you go paint your toenails with big ass over here!" Mitch retorted, in jest. "I couldnt even lean over to paint my toenails, Mitchell, you'd have to do it for me" Cathy said, pointing to her belly. When the three got to the airport, the tone got more serious. "Seriously, make sure it doesnt come out while I'm not here, and look after the Fatty, Australian" Mitch said. "I'll do my best to make sure it doesnt come out." Cathy said.
