I was in New York City over the weekend and checked out the "Ripley's Believe It Or Not" museum on 42nd Street. One of the displays featured an old set of stocks. There was an info. label that went with the display that said that the stocks were used in 18th England as a penalty for minor infractions of their laws. It said that it was considered public humiliation and that passers-by would do various things for entertainment including tickling those captive in the stocks.
One of the episodes of the TV show with Jack Palance made a reference to this before. Since we never miss a trick around here, I thought it was worth mentioning.
