The Good Guys, as a baseball team, had the traditional celebrations during the winter following their latest championship. The ball club basked in the glory of its accomplishment.
For Mitch and Naomi as a couple, it was a very different story. The snippy interaction between the two turned ugly soon after the World Series ended, with knock down, drag out, battles every night. With Mitch around all the time, due to the offseason, there was no chance for a break for either one of them, from the escalating fighting, other than a slammed door to a bedroom, or a brief break if one of them left the apartment.
During one particularly heated argument, Naomi, screaming at the top of her lungs, in a rage, said: "I'm done! Fuck you, Mitchell! Goodbye! You've pushed me over the cliff, so now I'm gone!" Mitch wanted to believe that Naomi was just furious at him, and would calm down, but, she packed her clothes in a suitcase, and headed out the door. "I'm leaving. We will talk, if, and when, I'm ready. Keep pushing me, and it will be the fucking end, forever, I swear!". Mitch sat on the couch, stunned, as he watched Naomi leave the apartment, and walk out of his life.
Naomi moved into the hotel, and told Mitch not to contact her. In the meantime, Mitch went through an offseason of depression, and sleepless nights. Time passed, and eventually, Mitch and Naomi were confronted with the decision of whether or not to play that upcoming year. Naomi nearly didn't sign, wanting to retire, and, Mitch, for his part, began to feel that, with the championship just won, it might be a good time to call it quits, especially if Naomi and he were no longer together. Eventually, both decided to sign their one year deals, feeling that even if their seperation turned to divorce, they could always retire at the end of the next season.
The worst problem with this conflict, unlike all of the others, was that the situation was much more severe than just a "Goodnight", a slammed door, and a bit of tension for a while. Mitch felt that Naomi was deadly serious about leaving him for good. Mitch was exhausted from fighting with the same woman, about the same issues, for almost 25 years. He had three grown children with her, and they would always be connected due to that. Besides that, it remained to be seen if the couple would have any future memories or experiences together, or, if it would just be memories of good times, and heartbreak, from the past.
The couple reported to spring training, still seperated, and barely speaking. Mitch had a terrible spring, his mind not focused on baseball.
With the gloom and doom surrounding Mitch and Naomi's situation, the new season opened for the Good Guys on a showery 72 degree day in Paradise, against the Mets. Gil Bellows gave a decent effort, allowing three runs in six innings. Mitch, however, struck out five times, earning him an array of boos, and Naomi was the losing pitcher, allowing four seventh inning runs, in an 8-3 setback. Charlize Theron pitched the next afternoon, allowing no runs in six innings, as Paradise got but one run, in a 1-0 victory. Neve Campbell had the ball on Wednesday afternoon. She gave up two runs in seven innings, but, an error by Mitch, with Kate Hudson on the mound, allowed a ninth inning run to score, and the Mets to defeat the Good Guys, 3-2.
Thursday was an off day. Unlike when they were together, and Thursday was counesling day to fight to save their marriage, and play time with Cathy. Thursdays now would be very different. Naomi spent her day shopping, with some of the female members of the team, while Mitch went to the casino, and lost $500. It wasnt known at that point if this situation was permanent, or just temporary. Another complication was the situation with Cathy. She tried to remain neutral, and invited Mitch and Naomi to visit her seperately, to see the baby. Cathy didnt want the two of them to have any joint visits, which might cause things to get worse. The sexual relationship was on the back burner, until it was seen what would really happen with Mitch and Naomi.
Atlanta came to town on Friday night. Rache Leigh Cook started, and gave up three runs, as the Good Guys broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the eighth, for a 4-3 win. Hayden took the ball on Saturday night, and allowed but one run, but lost, 1-0, as the Good Guys couldnt get her any. Gil Bellows was on the mound on Sunday, a sunny, 80 degree day, in front of a sellout. Gil allowed only one run in seven innings, as the Good Guys broke a 1-1 tie with an eighth inning run, in a 2-1 win.
Houston entered Paradise on Monday, for the homestand's last series. Charlize Theron pitched on Monday night, and gave up five runs in five innings, in a 5-4 defeat. Neve Campbell took the ball on Tuesday night. She gave up but two runs in eight innings, as the Good Guys rallied from a 2-1 deficit, to score two in the eighth, for a 3-2 triumph. Rachel Leigh Cook had the ball on Wednesday afternoon, a sunny, 82 degree day, in front of a sellout. Rachel gave up one run in six innings, as the Good Guys broke a 1-1 tie, with three eighth inning tallies. Kate Hudson saved the day in the ninth, and the Good Guys had a 4-1 win, that completed a winning, but subpar, five and four homestand. Clearly, the team was not playing at its best, and it was not known if Mitch and Naomi would ever be at their best that year, with the personal problems they were facing. As the team prepared to pack to go to New York on their first road trip of the year the next night, everyone was just trying to survive.

The featured lee would be manager Elmont Koehler, whom the team owed a tickle to, after winning the championship. Elmont was tied hands and feet to the bed, in the middle of the fetish club, in his boxers. Kate Hudson began the tickle on Elmont's neck with fingers, as his head shifted, and the laughter began:HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA! Moving down, Rachel Leigh Cook was next, tickling Elmont on his underarms, sides, ribs, and belly with fingers, as he howled:HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA! NOOOO! Working down, Neve Campbell was the next ler, attacking Elmont on his hips, inner thighs, and knees, as his legs bucked:HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAA! NOOOOOOOO! Finally, Naomi positioned herself at Elmont's feet, and tickled them with her fingers, feathers, and electric toothbrushes. Elmont went berserk, howling with laughter! AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHHAHAHHAHAHA! OMG OKAY! OKAY! NOOOOO MORE! STAHPPPPPP! HAHAHAHAHHHAHAHAHHAHAHAA! Finally, the tickle ended, and Elmont was untied.
On Thursday night, Mitch took a cab to Nassau International, to meet up with the team, for the flight to JFK Airport in New York. It had been a long, lonely week for Mitch, just as the last several months had been. Things looked bleak, and it was not known it they would get any better, or get worse.
So, with the first homestand complete, serious challenges abounded. Could Mitch and Naomi's marriage be salvaged, or would it fall completely apart forever ? That answer to come in upcoming stories of the Tickle Team From Paradise Island.
