Manda and I have noticed that many people are stuck scratching their heads at a lot of the newbie speak that happens around here. And we thought it be fair to reveal this 'coveted' list of popular words that you see being used all over the place. Along with the words will be a proper definition(s), so now no one will be confused!

Popular words and phrases:

lawl - A variation of the ever so popular LOL or Laugh out Loud.
- can also be used in the form of lulz, lawlz, lawler, lawlercopter, lolz.

ROFL - Rolling on the floor laughing. Pronounced phoenetically is row-full, or roffle. Not to be confused with Ruffle potato chips. Or rofflehouse, which is pwn'd by IHOP.

Pwn - A more unique way of owning someone. Believed to have been started by a slip of hand when typing the word "owned". Off shoots of this word include: pwn'd or pwnage.

Owned - To be made to look like a douche/idiot/silly. Basically, to lose face, whether by your own accord or not. Can be used in fun with friends, or to legitimately describe your ownage to an enemy.

Epical - Something amazing or loaded with 'win'. Variations orginally include the word Epic.
- To be of highest monumental merit.

Failure - to not win. to lose or fail at something. Severe failure can be met with a facepalm.

Facepalm - the hitting of oneself in the face/forehead with one's hand in order to express dismay or disbelief.

Facestairs - When Facepalm just won't cut it.

Facefloor - A way for submissives to laugh at their Dom/me's when performing Prone.
- "Your command has been met with facefloor."

Bai - To bid farewell. To end a conversation. An offshoot of the word 'Bye.'

Yush - yes. also yesh.

roflolcopter - It's like a high flying lawl. Not to be confused with the lawlercopter.

lolwut - to be amused by something, but confused as well. Not wanting to stray from the desire to show amusement, but also express concern or question.
- For more info see, http://www.lolwut.com

joo - Different variants of it's spelling, which can include: j00 or jo0. Meaning: Quite simply, 'You'.
- Or Jew, if you're Kraziedog. Kidding.

n00b - To be new to something. A newbie. The zero's in replacement of O's add a spice to this fact.

Yayzorz - The expression of pure joy and happiness. A coked up version of 'Yay!"

OMFG - Because having the hint of the word 'fuck' in any word will draw attention. Other forms include; LMFAO, ROFFL, LOFL and/or BOFL.

WTF - what the fuck. to show complete shock, dismay or disbelief. often accompanied by facepalm. Better used with facestairs.

DSL - A form of internet connection. More well known as TMF's own; HisDivineShadow. It is not HDS. It is DSL.
- *punts DSL*

GFY - Go. Fuck. Yourself.

GTFO - Get. The. Fuck. Out. Usually accompinied by the phrase, "Tits or GTFO." Because who doesn't like boobs?

nao - 'now.' -- The present time, or moment. Right Nao.

Secks - Variation of the word "sex". To do the dirty, dirty. Invisible buttsecks is a popular offshoot of this word.

OMGWTFBBQ - A JoMondy special. Not to be mixed with NSD (Never Say Die.)

Ftw(!!) - For. The. Win. - To accomplish or make positive claim on something. Even when used in reference to something negative. (Falling down 4 flights of stairs and shattering every bone in your body a la the movie Invincible, ftw!)

Popular Faces/hand typed emotes:

O.o - Shock or Suprise. Other variations include: o.o -- O.O -- o.O -- All depending on your level of surprise.

^^ - Content, amusement or happiness. Any positive emotion is conveyed through this emote.

m^^m - kitteh! Meow!

o^^o - Blushing or Embarrassed.

>.> | <.< - Not amused. Not to be mixed in with the srsface, which we will be getting to. Most folks like to see if they can post both variations of this emote before anyone responds. For some reason it holds more impact if posted one right after the other. I don't get it either.

^.^ - Another variation of content or happy.

:| - SOSRS face. Or-- So. Serious. Face.

^.~ - Winking. Pretty self-explanatory.

>< | >.< | >_< - Eyes clenched shut. Grimace. Showing signs of frustration or annoyance.

-_- -- Another not so amused face. One I don't see much. Mostly from Manda, actually.

xD or XD -- Laughter. Who'da thunk 2 letters could show so much emotion?

There will always be constantly evolving ways to say things using as few or as many vowels as possible. It's fun and it's a lot better then going out and getting jacked up on drugs. So, enjoy!

- TeamJoMondy and all of you who make this dope language a reality.

Some of these "shorthand" things are longer than the word they are being used for. I guess its a trend thing, not logic based?

A pox on your 1337SPK, I will continue to say and type words the way they should be said...unless of course I'm being facetious.

I had to ask someone about FTW about a year ago; I thought it was some reverse meaning of WTF, and yes I know that makes no sense

LOL. Well this looks suspiciously like Net Tard to me. Not a language at all but simple bastardization. Thanks for all the effort you've gone to but I'll choose literacy instead.

I'm only 22 and I didn't know what 70% of those shorthands meant. Most I had an idea of what they meant, but now this clears it up for me.

Thanks, Crystal! :triangle:

Thanks for clearing that up.........

HOWEVER

Simply because we are on the internet does not mean we can not speak like perfectly literate people.

I know it's your thing Jo, but I really do not get it. :ranty:

Just wanted to stop by to say thanks, to you ladies, for this post. Just today I asked my good friend Bella to please tell me what 'pnwd' meant. LOL She then directed me to this post. I was pleased to see that the only items on the list that I weren't familiar with were 'pnwd' and 'ftw', which I also thought meant 'fuck the world', btw. I'm also really glad that you are intelligent enough to let the negativity and insults just roll off of your backs. There's nothing to "get" here. It's a way of injecting an aire of playful expressiveness into the cold act of typing text. Same as the use of emoticons, which hardly anyone seems to have a problem with. I for one appreciate your attitude. Keep up the good work!

Thanks, Jo. Since I haven't had any personal experience with "failure" or "FAIL" as I believe it may be called, the definitions really have come in handy.....especially when tlaking to those less fortunate, FAIL-centric people like yourself, Mondy, Tortuga, and Euphoricy....

Again, many thanks.
