Is there still hope for a better world or do you think we are descending into a tail spin?

Same as it's always been. Not too good, not too evil. Hopefully things'll stay like this forever.

Human is as human does. We probably won't change, at least not much in the next million years or so (assuming we don't encounter a mass extinction along the way). But no, I don't think we're heading for a societal collapse anytime soon.

So there isn't a prevalent worry that the lack of human contact due to t.v./video games/internet etc... is desensitizing us to each other?

It has been descending into a tailspin ever since Adam and Eve chomped on that apple.

I'm sure a few old folks feared the end of interpersonal relationships when telephones were first invented. The advent of internet and related technologies is just an extension of said deterioration.

Fear not. The end is not nigh - it's already here.

Yes, I'm optimistic. Do I feel that being optimistic will help. No we are probably screwed.

I hope society's in a tailspin. There's six billion people on this planet, a little anarchy would help cull the herd.:firedevil

I know a lot of you will think I'm wacko for this, but I believe we are
in the end times. I think we will see the rapture in our lifetime. Many
of the prophesies in Daniel and Revelations are coming true right before
our eyes. So no, I don't think things are on the way to getting better,
I think things will get a whole lot worse. But those of us who believe
already know the end of the story, and it's definitely a happy one.

I don't think that you're wacko.

However, I do not share your precise viewpoint.

I do think that society could shift profoundly within the next 50-100 years, with a waning influence of United States of America and rise in influence of China, India, Asia and possibly Africa.

As oil runs out, Arab states will be shaken up. As global warming takes hold, wars will be common in low lying third world countries and other locations.

I hope we don't experience and event like the sacking of Rome by the visigoths which plunged the world into the dark ages.

I look at things like this.

For every horrible murder, attack, and natural disaster....there are miracle rescues, births and heroic acts that equal it out in my eyes.

I do not think society is in a downturn. There are times of apparent correction it seems like, but on the whole I think society just does what it has to do survive everyday.

Most people on this planet are more concerned about eating and staying healthy in impoverished times and places and really do not concern themselves with most of the issues those of us in "industrialized nations" honestly place too much value on.

Just my opinion.

All I can say is:

:panic:

!!!

:jester:

(I can't believe someone didn't think of posting that already!)

Seriously though, whether we are in a 'tailpsin' or not, so long as we try and do our best for the benefit of all, it's all good to me.

Even if 'the world is ending before my very eyes', that doesn't give me reason to attribute to the chaos in a negative way.

Just do the right thing; everything else is backround noise.

Yup. Humanity as a whole don't seem to ever learn from their mistakes.

History, IMO, just keeps repeating itself.
