I refuse to call it the "Christmas season". Very little of what takes place has anything to do with celebrating what Christmas is. The commercialization of it bastardizes what it's truly about. The "Christmas" season starts on Christmas Eve and runs into January....not on Thanksgiving running to the end of the post Christmas sales.
And then, there are things like this...
Man Trampled to Death as Shoppers Storm Store (http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-general/20081128/NEWS-US-USA-HOLIDAYSALES-DEATH/)
 One man dead and four others injured for a stupid sale?! I mean, let's get real here! Is getting that savings 5 seconds before someone else so important that you have to break down the doors and kill people?! I wouldn't care if they wre giving things away. It's not worth risking lives! We really need to start thinking about what we do! :disgust: :sowrong:

Despite it being terrible that someone died in a shopping spree, I had to laugh. It pretty much sums up the consumer culture that we live in, albeit with an extreme example.

Come now, Jesus died so that we might buy tons of shit.

This happens probably every other year. Goddamn shame.
Pic below was on the cover of a magazine 2 years ago. At least someone's trying to help the old lady. The fatass on the right just cares about getting a $30 DVD player.

I read the article this morning, I could not believe it. And this is supposed to be the season of good will towards man. Goes to show you have some people are just uncivilized and morons..I will not touch a store this weekend...and I do most of my shopping online or offbeat stores. Truly a shame show of humanity, the stores vying for business with the doorbusters should be held accountable for this too, they have seen this happen and should have the proper security in place, you need a whole defensive line to protect against that. It really made me sick to my stomach. PS.. I hope all those people are totally ashamed of themselves.

That store is about 30 minutes from my house. I hate long islanders and the greed of the people in this country. My Aunt had to work at a different Wal-Mart on Long Island this morning. That could've been her.

I hate it too and the original post was right. The link Ann provided to back it up just proves that for most people X-Mas is all about GREED.

What Bugman said. This is exactly why I don't miss retail. Very sad for the person who died. :(

That was bad.. I also read this article of a shooting at a Toys R Us.
Now ppl are shooting and killing for toys.. wow
This is why I refuse to go shopping on black friday, it is a nut house and ppl are so rude and mean to eachother.. I once had a little old lady literally chassing me with her shopping cart, kept running into me hard. I finally had enough and told her off and said if she touches me again.. I was gonna deck her. She literally was in every Isle I was in and rammed her cart hard into me to get me to move..I ws done after the 6th time. I have not gone shopping on black friday since. I went home with bruises all aver my legs and back and ashamed that I had yelled at someone like that.
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Two people were killed in a shooting inside a Toys "R" Us in Palm Desert, Calif., on Friday, one of the busiest shopping days of the year, according to media reports. The Los Angeles Times reported that the shooting, some 120 miles east of Los Angeles, may have stemmed from an argument between two groups of shoppers. So-called Black Friday is the traditional starting point for the holiday-shopping surge.

I believe in designing your experience of the holidays as much as humanly possible. I rarely shop in stores. Seriously. I do about 95% on my Xmas (and all other) shopping online, frankly it's cheaper even with the so-called Black Friday sales. I refuse to discuss presents with my little girls before Thanksgiving is over. I avoid the crazy people, stay home and bake and hang out by the fire, it's a good way to avoid being trampling or being trampled...

Same here. Online shopping is a good way to go. Now I will venture out for a few things here and there, but not on Black Friday. Saving a few bucks isn't worth the headache.

It's both sad and gross that shopping mania has proved fatal in that incident. :(

Yea, I heard about that. It makes me sad that these are the kind of things that are allowed to happen in the world. People care more about items then about each other.

What gets me is the stories you see on the local news about idiots spending all night in the parking lot of a store so they came be first in line.Get a life people.
And guess what?If little John or Jane does not get whatever the *must have* toy or video game is,it's not the end of the world.I'm sure they will not be scared for life.
I was about to get off on a rant about Christmas, but maybe i should start a thread in P&R about that.:)

unfortunately, many "modern" parents these days believe that giving their kids everything they want will help them grow up to be productive and good people. in the end, all it does is create a child that walks all over the parents and teachers, thinking that they are above the authority and a good temper tantrum will keep them out of trouble.
personally, how many of these people act disgusts me to no end. if the value of a human life is equated to a fucking Tickle Me Elmo, then the time to nuke the planet has come.
