*Sigh* seriously people this is kinda sad. There are other issues to way in beyond pro-life or pro-choice. To demand repentance for who you chose to vote for is sad. :disgust:

Voting for obama was not the sin in and of itself. It was the fact that they are allowing pro-choice policy to go about unhindered, when it's inherently against the teachings of the RC church.
As such, the priest is simply doing what is true to his belief system. And if you consider the RC church to be your authority, then you've gotta roll with it.

Nope. That's the priest personal decision. and it's not backed by Church authority. Another priest said as much in North Carolina, and got smacked down by the diocese.
If the vote had been specifically on abortion, there might be a case. But there's a legitimate argument to be made that there will be fewer abortions under an Obama presidency. Or there's the argument that there will be the same number of abortions, and there are other moral reasons to vote for Obama. People might disagree with either argument. But there's a huge difference between saying they're wrong and saying that they're sinful.

In the article Bishop Blaire stated the correct Catholic teaching. The priest was incorrect and contradicts centuries of Catholic theology on the matter.

Then they shouldn't be asking people to confess their sin if they voted for Obama. If it's something specific, they need to be more specific in their statements.
Catholics, as with all religious individuals, pick and choose which aspects of their doctrine they wish to take at face value, and which they choose to bend, based upon personal preferences. My father, growing up in eastern Connecticut, used to tell stories about watching the younger priests hanging out in bars, collar-free, and picking up women; where is the specific declaration "If you're a priest who slept with a woman, you must confess your sins"..?
Why isn't every other specifically sinful thing a person could do given its own encouraging "confess now" announcement?
EDIT: While we're on the subject, doesn't his amount to an attempt to force people to reveal their vote?
