Nickelodeon's decision not to remove Chris Brown and Rihanna from being nominated for the Kids' Choice Awards is coming under fire. Nickelodeon says they will not remove them from the awards and are leaving it to the kids to decide.

What do you think about this?

NEW YORK – Nickelodeon says it has no plans to remove Chris Brown as a nominee for its annual Kids' Choice Awards, despite the singer's felony charges for allegedly beating up his girlfriend Rihanna.

Brown is nominated for favorite male singer and favorite song for "Kiss Kiss." He'll be competing in the latter category with Rihanna, who police say was allegedly punched, bitten and choked by Brown last month.

An online petition asking Nickelodeon to remove Brown and Rihanna as nominees had 2,166 signatures Tuesday. Nick says Brown was nominated for his work as a performer, and kids will decide who wins.

The awards are scheduled for March 28.

Particularly given that he hasn't been convicted yet, removing him would seem to serve no purpose. What good would it do? It would simply increase the interest in him and more kids would google him to see what all the fuss was about.

If you want to guarantee a child's interest in something, just try to hide it.

I agree with Redmage. It's also up to the parents to determine what's appropriate for their children to watch. The controversy could spark a really meaningful discussion about domestic abuse and the problem with idolizing celebrities.

You got that 100% right Red.

Why remove them? Nickelodeon has had Paris Hilton at these award shows, obviously Nick thinks pre-schoolers like former porn-stars, so why not a guy who beats the crap out of his girlfriend?

Nick has the perfect opportunity here. Instead of removing them, why not take advantage of the attention and do something to help educate them so that they can avoid similar situations in the future?

This is much like the Catholic Church condemning movies that oopose Church teaching and trying to forbid people to see it. When I was teaching confirmation class to high school students, there was a big to-do about one of the news magazines doing an entire show about exorcism. There were also movies that were creating controversy...much as "Angels & Demons" is currently. Rather than hide it from people, we watched and discussed it as a group and people actually learned something. The same can be done here.

In a report today Chris Brown has told Nickelodeon that he will not appear and wants his name removed.

If Chris isn't going to show up, their ratings will take a beating... (sorry, had to).
