I just beat mass effect 2 and was wondering if there was anything i could have done to save half of my crew?

Also, was there any reason to upgrade my ship. I dont remember any ship battles. Unless it was that one cutscene before you entered the collectors base?

That is really the only ship battle. To save you crew from dieing during that you need to have all the ship upgrades. Also depending on who you pick to do what during the final mission matters as well.

Yea upgrading your ship was essential for the final battle, if you didn't characters would be killed.

Having all your team loyal to you was pretty important too. I had Tali to open the security gates. Could have used legion too, anyone else would likely end up dying. Leader of the fire team was important too picking one of the cerberus officers was your best bet for keeping them alive, As for the escorting of the crew, they'd live as long as they were loyal to you. And choosing the asari for the forcefield should be a givin

yeah i didnt really upgrade the ship. fail on my part.

tali died, i had her hack the vents
garrus died by the swarm
jack was leader, she got shot the fuck up
miranda created the forcefield
i let my crew walk back to the normandy alone(im a jackass i guess); ) they all didnt make it back.
thane was crushed by a boulder when the normandy got attacked
legion was killed when the normandy got attacked.

Get the loyalty missions all done, get the ship fully upgraded, and make sure you enough paragon/renegade points to break up the two fights that ensue. I personally used Legion as the hacker, Garrus as leader, Jack as the forcefield, and Mordin as the escort. My team consisted of Thane and Samara, and I managed to complete the game and save everyone - on the Insanity difficulty. If you're wondering, I played an Adept. XD

i have a feeling that gettin certain character upgrades may play a small part in it though im not sure lol like the krogan health amplifier, of the one that gives Mordin increased tech power.

Also make sure you immediately go to the Omega Relay after your ship is attacked and your crew is abducted. If you do more side-quests or anything, you start getting your crew melted.

hack the vents: loyal legion
leader: loyal Miranda
barrier made by: loyal samara
escorter: Loyal mordin
bring with me: the weakest guys, Tali and Jack or if someone is not loyal you should pick them.
Try have everyone loyal or at least everyone who stays to guard the gate oyal and bring the weakest guys with you. Also upgrade the ship to max.
