Hi Folks,

This is a piece I created for a friend I met at the Tickling Media Forum.

After chatting for a while and meeting IRL I got inspired to put together a poem for her and set it to music.

I wanted the poem to have tickling imagery without being blunt about it.

So here goes...

The Mermaid's Song

When you strum a mermaid's tail,
she sings a splitting-spell,
a chantey only submarines
and sperm whales
can hear.

The cartilage quivers,
and she smiles -
she is happy that you're here.

There is copper and salt
in the taste of the water.
The sun glitters off her scales,
and drizzles into the sea
as the sea sprays you,
as her tail becomes
legs,
feet,
and toes.

She dreams of disco on the beach.

You see disco in the remnants
of her scale-skin,
dip your tongue into her belly,
feel her shudder-song in your gut.

She is not mute - she sings constantly, and today her song is laughter.

You can hear it;
you need only adjust the frequency.

With the hard magic of humanity
you will show her goldenrod,
and you will sing her songs,
and with the spark of fingers
on not-familiar hips,
you will both learn the two-step
and talk of travels and horizons.

Child of the Creative

What a great idea! And it works pretty well.

It is said that no creative work is ever completed, only abandoned. And I have abandoned a few.

I hope that you will revisit this idea with whatever further thinking is working in the back of your mind.

By the way, what happened with the girl?
