During the next off season, the Good Guys sought to strengthen their team even more by acquiring Kate Hudson for their starting rotation. Although thin, Hudson was a powerballing righty the likes of a Pedro Martinez with Boston, and she could really bring it. Plus, Naomi Watts and Kate were good friends from having worked together on the movie "Le Divorce" the previous offseason, as both were in the movie business during their offseason hiatus from baseball. After a great spring, the Good Guys returned to Paradise Island for opening day against the Atlanta Braves, where over 50,000 faithful on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon watched them hoist their championship flag to the pole, and then take on the Braves. This would be Tom Glavine's last year with Atlanta, as he was likely to leave as a free agent during the next off season. On that day, starting in place of the flu ridden Greg Maddux, the Paradise Islanders pummeled Glavine for 5 runs in 5 innings, hitting him hard. In the meantime, Hudson pitched 6 strong innings in her Good Guy debut. allowing two runs to the powerful Braves lineup. She gave way to Mandy Moore, who pitched a scoreless 7th and 8th, and then Naomi came in for the 9th, blowing the Braves away with her 96 mile per hour heater to finish off a solid 5-2 win. The crowd was noisy, and the clubhouse very happy, after a very nice opening day win over a tough team. Naturally, in the post game interviews, Hudson was asked about the tickle escapades of the team, and whether she had experienced her initiation yet. Hudson was staying at a suite at the Paradise Island hotel for a week until her apartment was ready. So naturally, being the gentlemen they were, Mitch and another teammate escorted Kate to her room. As they undressed her and put her to bed, they decided this would be the perfect time to give "Little Katie", one of the youngest members of the team besides Mandy Moore, her tickle initation!
