I can't remember for sure if I posted this before, or not. I think NOT, so here it is...
There's always been some debate about whether people really were locked in stocks and tickled by their captors many, many moons ago. I've heard some people say that this is just wishful thinking by ticklephiles.
Well, on the original "Ripley's Believe It Not" TV show, the subject came up. The host, Jack Palance, was showing various artifacts collected by Robert Ripley. He went along a row and explained the use of various items that were used as punishment for minor crimes. He talked about a jackass head, then got to a set of stocks and verfified that people got locked in the stocks and had their feet tickled as a punishment.
The segments from that original show were taken from the original archives of Ripley. That makes me wonder if the tickling reference can be found in one his books somewhere.
