The Good Guys, with all their financial issues settled, began to again look like the Good Guys of old. They regained their aura of near invincibility when they stepped onto the field, home and away, and put together a late season 13 game winning streak that just about put the division away. The crowds were coming back, due to the ticket breaks being offered by the new owner, and there were large crowds every night that month. They clinched the division with about 10 days to go at home against the Phillies, which allowed Sniderman to prepare his pitching rotation as he wanted it. In spite of all their troubles that year, they ended up with a final total of 95 wins in 162 games, a testament to their heart and character. They swept the Mets the final weekend of the regular season in Paradise, entering the playoffs on a high note.
The playoffs began against the wild card Chicago Cubs, whom the Good Guys disposed of in 4 games, winning game 4 in Chicago, so their home fans werent a part of the celebration. Their next opponent was Atlanta. This was a very different Braves team than in previous years. While the old Braves had dominated with pitching, that year's team had a lineup more powerful than any in baseball. In that series, the old addage of good pitching defeats good hitting turned out to be true, as the Good Guy starting staff shut Atlanta's heavy hitting lineup down. In spite of being blown out in 2 games of the series, the Paradise Islanders beat the Braves in 6, winning game 6 in P.I. for their home fans.
The next round was the World Series against the mighty Yankees. The Good Guys had been there and done that before, and yet they knew it would not be easy. They won Game one 3 to 2, getting the winning runs in the last of the 8th. In Game 2, the Good Guys scored the winning runs in the 7th, and Mandy and Naomi slammed the door, to win 5 to 4. Now the Paradisers had a commanding two games to none lead, and needed only to win one in NY to set it up for a celebration in Game 6. The Yankees won Game 3 in extra innings, so the Paradise Islanders badly wanted to win Game 4 to avoid a tie series. Kate Hudson was awesome on 3 days rest, as the Good Guys got clutch hits, and the pen was lights out,for a 4 to 1 Paradise victory. While they wanted to end it in Game 5, it was not to be, as the Yankees came up big to stay alive. In Game 6, they played for all the marbles in front of 52,000 screaming fans. Although they had two chances to win one game, the team did not want to take any chances with all they had been through that year. Alicia Silverstone was magnficent for 7 innings, Mandy was lights out in the 8th, and riding a 1st inning Mitch homerun, the Good Guys went to the 9th up 2 to 0. With the park on the edge of bedlam, Naomi came stomping out of the pen in the 9th to try and get three outs. A ground out and a pop up was followed by an error. With the dangerous Jason Giambi at the plate as the tying run, the crowd held its breath as Naomi went to work. Giambi got two strikes, and then fouled off a couple of pitches. Then, he connected, and hit a fairly deep fly ball to right that Mitch had in his tracks. It settled into the right fielder's glove, and the Paradise Islanders had achieved the impossible dream of a World Series title in the first season of the new owner that had rescued them from obilivion.
The crowd was beserk, the clubhouse, choatic, as it seemed even sweeter than the other times. The owner stood drenched in champange in the middle of the clubhouse, promising raises and bonuses for all the money he made that postseason.
Following interviews, the celebratory team dinner, and gambling, the team retired to their suite to savor the win. Many players were inebriated, and some just plain drunk.
Before the playoffs, the Good Guys had made a bet to be allowed to tickle any national newscaster they chose if they won the series, they gave their management a list, and the candidates had to be contacted to see if the person appproved. The winner of the contest was TBS sports Erin Andrews, a blonde beauty who covered sportsdesk of Atlanta Braves games as well as other events. She was ushered into the room, and after congratualtions were offered, stripped to a bra and panties and was tied to the bed. Once she was tied, Mitch began the tickle on her neck with fingers as she began writhing around and the room filled with girlish laughter. Hehehehehehehehehehehe! NO! Then Mitch moved down, tickling the attractive blonde anchor on her underarms and sides as she writhed some more: Hehehehehehehehehehehehe! NO! Moving down, Mitch tickled Erin on her inner thighs, causing her to buck. Then, Mitch got down to the soles of Erin's pretty bare feet. Mitch tickled Erin's bare feet with fingers, feathers, ice and the electric toothbrush. This drove Erin beserk! She flexed, pointed, and wiggled her toes every which way as she filled the room with uncontrollable laughter and begged the tickling to stop! Hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe! Oh please no! I give up! NO! NO! NO! HEhehehehehehehehehehehehe! Finally, Erin was untied and the celebration continued. It was a happy night, considering all the trouble the team had experienced that year. So now they had a new owner, and yet another Title. What would happen next? Stay tuned for the next season of the Team from Paradise Island.
