and won two of three in Houston. The team returned home on a Tuesday night to begin a homestand with the Mid America teams. For years, Mitch had always been the island icon and team leader, the one expected to carry the Good Guys on his back. Although Mitch was still a highly productive hitter at age 34, Heath Ledger was extremely productive as well, and it was only logicial that he would be the one the team looked to for the purpose of carrying them far into the future. No doubt, Mitch would play several more years, but Heath's arrival signaled the direction of the Good Guys for perhaps the next 15 years. It was very difficult for Mitch to accept relinquishing prime status role to Heath, not to mention the history that Naomi and Heath had personally.
The Paradise Islanders began the homestand on a Tuesday night against Pittsburgh. Kate Hudson opened the series and the homestand, and fared very well, allowing but three hits and one run in six innings, as Heath and Mitch both hit home runs, in a 4-1 Good Guys victory. Gil Bellows followed that effort up by pitching seven innings of four hit, two run ball on Wednesday, a game that featured another home run by Heath, in a 5-2 Paradise win. Neve Campbell took the hill on Thursday, but the Good Guys bats were assleep that night, and the team took a 1-0 loss.
Chicago came to town for the middle series of the homestand. Jennifer Love Hewitt, possessing blazing stuff, fired a two hit shutout on Friday night, as the Good Guys secured a 4-0 win. Saturday night was none too pleasant, as the fifth starter got raked over the coals, allowing seven runs in three innings, and earning a chorus of boos, in an eventual 9-2 loss. Kate Hudson got things back on track on Sunday afternoon. In front of a near sellout, Kate pitched into the ninth inning, allowing but one run, as Mitch and Heath Ledger again homered in the same game, in a 3-1 Good Guy victory.
After an off day on Monday, Gil Bellows went to the mound on Tuesday night against St Louis, and fared very well, allowing two runs over eight innings, as the Good Guys hit four homeruns, in an eventual 7-3 Paradise Island win. Neve Campbell's next turn was on Wednesday, and this time she managed to gain a win, allowing one run over eight innings, in a 2-1 Paradise squeaker. The Good Guys were fired up for Thursday's matinee, and put the game away early, scoring seven first inning runs, in an inning that featured homeruns by Mitch and Heath Ledger again. The two were forming a friendly competition on the field. The Good Guys had a big lead that they almost blew, but Naomi and Mandy Moore saved the day in the 9th, to register an 8-5 triumph that sent 33,000 sundrenched fans home happy and completed a fine homestand. The featured lee was a 21 year old Asian exchange student who maanger Lee Sniderman had in his classes when he had been professor of history at Nassau University. She was tied hands and feet to the bed as the tickle was began by pitcher Gil Bellows on her neck with fingers as the giggles began: Hehehehehehehehehehehehe! NO! Moving down, Gil tickled the pretty exchange student on her underarms, sides, and belly with fingers as she thrashed and more giggles erupted. Hehehehehehehehehehehehehe! Noo! Ticklish! Noo! Working his way down, Gil tickled the student on her inner thighs, causing her to buck. Then, he got to the soles of her pretty bare feet. Gil attacked her bare feet with fingers, feathers, and ice on her sensitve soles and toes. This drove the exchange student nuts! She wiggled her toes every which way and squealed with girlish giggles, begging for mercy. Hehehehehehehehehehehehe! I surrender! Please no more tickles! NOO! Hehehehehehehehehehehehe! With that, the tickle stopped and the ultra ticklish exchange student was released from her bonds.
