The Good Guys embarked on a nine day, three city road trip. After winning three in a row in New York, they lost two of three in Atlanta, and won two of three in Houston. They returned home on a Sunday night to begin a nine game homestand with the mid america teams. The homestand began on Tuesday night, as Neve Campbell kicked things off by allowing three runs in seven innings, in a 5-3 win. Then, on Wednesday, Melissa Gunther got hit hard, as the Paradise Islanders lost, 6-4. Thursday started as a normal day. Mitch and Naomi awoke in the morning, and sent their kids to school. Around lunchtime, heavy showers hit the area, and they were forecast on and off all night. Lee Sniderman called and told the team to report to the ballpark, as they were going to try and play the game, unless it was too dangerous to do so. Mitch and Naomi fed their children, and went to the park for the 7:35 first pitch. Nicole Kidman was visiting that week, and joined the team at the park. The rain was moderate to heavy in the early evening, but slackened off enough to play by 8:30. Kate Hudson was the starter. The Pirates and Good Guys traded runs in the first, and then in the third, Pittsburgh took the lead. Then, the rain came harder, and the ground crew had to put the tarp on the field. After 90 minutes delay, at 11, the rain had stopped enough to play again, but Sniderman had to relieve Kate, who had tightened up during the delay. The middle relief held Pittsburgh in check for a while, allowing the Good Guys to take a 4-3 lead. In the sixth, the roof caved in, and Pittsburgh scored four times to go ahead 7-4. It looked like just a wasted, wet night at the office for a while, but then, in the eighth, the Good Guys struck. Trailing 7-4, they scored a run, and then, Mitch drilled a bases clearing double to the wall to give the Good Guys the lead again. Mandy came in for the ninth, but couldnt hold the lead. Then, as they moved into extra innings, the real fun began. In the thirteenth, the Pirates scored two, and the Good Guys were down to their final strike in the bottom half, when left fielder Dawson clobbered a two run blast to tie the game at 10-10. After that, there were no other runs scored until the eighteenth. Things got crazier. In the seventeenth, at about 3am, Mitch was tossed out of the game for arguing balls and strikes. Lee Sniderman came out, incredulous that an ump could throw a player out of such a bizarre game. He too was ejected. Then, in the eighteenth, the Pirates scored another run off Naomi. In the bottom half, the first two Good Guys went easily, and it looked like the team would lose a heartbreaker. Naomi was up, because the team had run out of pinch hitters. After two strikes, Naomi swung, and walloped a homerun over the wall to tie the game at 11. The team was screaming and laughing, and the few hundred fans left couldnt believe it. What in the world would happen next? In the nineteenth, the Pirates again scored two runs to take the lead 13-11. The Good Guys fought back in the bottom half, scoring a run on several hits. Then, with the bases loaded, left fielder Dawson came up, and clobbered a two out, two strike grand slam homer over the wall to win the game for the Good Guys at 3:55am, 16 to 13. The team was on the field, screaming as if they had won the seventh game of the World Series, and the few hundred fans left gave them a standing ovation. It was a happy, but tired clubhouse. Mitch and Naomi arrived home at 4:30am, and apologized to the sitter, who was sleeping on the couch. The kids were up, too. "We wont be taking you to school today. Gosh, thank god we dont have to play til 730 tonight, I need to sleep" Naomi said. "Hey, mom, nice homerun" Erin teased. "Yeah, just call me Naomi Hank Aaron Watts" Naomi chuckled.
The next night, the Cubs came to town, as the exhausted Good Guys arrived at the park just before first pitch. Sniderman handed starting pitcher Charlize Theron the ball, and said:" Go nine, I have no bullpen after last night, Naomi and Mandy need a couple of days off" Charlize heeded her manager's call, and the team helped her out, building a 6-0 lead after three innings to win 6-1. It was an easy game, and much needed after the marathon. Sniderman knew he had to give certain members of the team days off after the Cubs series to perserve them for the road trip, after the ridiculously long night game that went into morning. On Saturday night, Gil Bellows gave the team another shot in the arm, pitching eight strong innings, and giving way to Mandy in the ninth, for a 3-0 victory. Neve Campbell went to the hill on Sunday. She allowed only three runs, but her opponent Kerry Wood was better, as the Good Guys got shut out, 3-0.
St Louis came to Paradise to conclude the homestand on Monday. At first, everyone panicked when they saw a rain shower, remembering back to Thursday night. Luckily, it stopped in ten minutes. By the third inning, the team wondered if a rain out would have been welcome, as Melissa Gunther trailed 5-0 en route to a 8-3 walloping. Now they wanted to win the final two games. Kate Hudson took the ball on Tuesday night, not having pitched a full game in a while due to the rain game on Thursday night. She was fantastic, allowing the Cards only one run through seven, in a routine 4-1 victory. Gil Bellows got the ball on Wednesday afternoon in the homestand's final game. He pitched well, allowing but three runs in six innings. The Good Guys led, 5-3 after six, and the pen came in, to preserve a 6-3 Good Guys win. Things had gone well on the homestand, and the team seemed to recover from the marathon they played.
The tickle that week was an interesting one. It was not done by the Good Guys. The Pirates were so incredulous about losing the game to the Good Guys, and giving up the game tying homer to Naomi, that they went out of character and hired a dom to tickle the pitcher, reliever Salamon Torres, into submission by a female dom for allowing a homerun to a relief pitcher. What was better, is they set up communications in their clubhouse to broadcast it so the Good Guys and other teams could see it in their clubhouses. After the Pirates Saturday night game at their home park, Torres was tied hands and feet to a bed in the Pirate clubhouse, as a nasty dom came in:" You dare allow a homerun to a pitcher, especially a girl! You will be punished for that. With that, the dom began the tickle on Torres neck as he writhed and the laughter began: Hahahahhahahahahaha! I'm sorry! That tickles! NO! Hahahahahahahahaha! The dom didnt listen, she merely attacked Torres sides, stomach, and underarms as he thrashed and howled some more: Hahahahahahahahaha! OH NO! Ticklish! OH NO! Hahahahahahahahaha! Then, moving to his feet, the dom attacked them with her fingers, and pulled a large feather, running it over his soles and toes. Torres howled with hysterical laughter: Hahahahahahahahahaha! Okay! Okay! I give up! Please no more! Hahahahahahahahahaha! The Good Guys got a kick out of watching this, a player on another team, tortured by a dom, for losing to them.
So, it had been a crazy week with the game that lasted til almost sunrise, but things were okay anyway. What would happen next? Stay tuned for the continuing story of the Tickle Team from Paradise Island
