Turns out mother-in-law isn't ticklish, plus some real-life tickle-torture
Hi. It’s interesting how one can contrast enjoying
stories about severe tickling, but when one hears
real-life instances, it can be completely different.
I’ve posted before about tickling my wife. She’s
extremely, extremely ticklish but can be a good sport
about it assuming I don’t cross any lines. No
foot-holding & tickling, stopping when she asks, etc.
I think I feel a little guilty about on some deep
level kind of enjoying hearing the stories Mary told
me, since we’re really talking about (in my opinion) a
very pretty girl getting tickle-tortured. On the
other hand, it’s somebody I know and love and wouldn’t
willingly harm her in any way. So, I think relaying
the story is kind of a venting act for me. I hope you
enjoy it and I’m curious about what feedback I get.
So, over the weekend, my wife was talking to her
mother on the phone. My wife was stretched out on the
couch. Taking the opportunity, at one point I gave
“Mary” a gentle poke to her side. Of course, this
tickled her and she shrieked. Her mother, “Linda”,
must asked what happened, because Mary said “he
tickled my side!”. Then, about a minute later, I
stroked Mary’s sole, and she really screamed into the
phone. Then she said “he tickled my foot, my feet are
ticklish”.
This led to a conversation between her and her mother.
I could kind of hear Linda through the phone. I
don’t know if that’s because she speaks loudly or the
acoustics of the phone or whatever. Anyway, I’m
pretty sure she asked Mary “does he tickle you a lot”,
and she said “yes, he tickles me all the time”, which
isn’t quite true, but that’s ok. Linda’s also asked
that question before, who knows if she just has a bad
memory, isn’t listening, or maybe is just curious
about whether Mary gets tickled ever.
So, her mother asks something I guess about how
ticklish Mary is, because Mary said over the phone to
her “I still am, my feet are so bad”. Which is 100%
true, Mary’s feet are deathly ticklish. She isn’t as
ticklish on her feet as she was even a few years ago,
though. Now she’ll laugh and scream if her soles are
stroked for a few seconds, but even a few years ago,
literally the slightest touch for a split-second to
her soles had her in agony.
I think I’ve mentioned before that Linda (Mary’s
mother) is not really the nicest person on the planet.
One would think dredging up old memories wouldn’t be
the most pleasant conversation topic, and I could hear
the exasperation in Mary’s voice. But Linda said
something like “do you remember how (whatever Linda’s
2nd husband’s name was) & (whatever the step-son’s
name was) would tickle you so badly?”. I could hear
Linda laughing on the phone when she said it, which I
thought was kind of peculiar.
Anyway, that time for Mary was rather unpleasant and I
think it’s more a testimony to her character that she
can separate being abusively tickled from playful
tickling today. Nevertheless, Mary got mad on the
phone. Of all the things Mary could be mad about, I
was surprised this was it and I guess the tickling she
got was worse than what she told me. It kind of makes
me feel guilty for ever tickling her now, but I guess
that’s where responsibility comes into it. Anyway,
after hearing Mary’s description of being abusively
tickled, it kind of turns me off the idea of tickling
her in general, not wanting to really associate with
anything she might find distasteful.
Anyway, Mary yelled “I can’t believe you’re laughing
about that. That was abuse for 3 straight years every
single day.”
I couldn’t really tell what Linda said at that point,
but whatever it was, it sent Mary through the roof.
Mary is usually a very calm, even-keeled person, but
this really made her mad. Mary shouted into the phone
“Yes, Mom, it was every day. Every single day”. She
emphasized “was”, so I’m guessing Linda said something
about the tickle-abuse not happening often and Mary
saying it did. She was getting really mad here, and
said on the phone that every day after school that she
got tickled really badly and said something like “he
knew exactly where to get me”.
This all apparently happened when she was between 12
and 15. Just a guess here, but I’d say that’s a
pretty rough time to get abusively tickled, seeing as
how your average adolescent is trying to develop
esteem, developing an interest in the opposite sex,
and then somebody is exposing some weakness in front
of everybody. I honestly never knew that she had such
a bad time of it.
Later on, after the phone call Mary told me about how
bad it really was. Mary had told me she’d gotten
tickled badly in the past, but I never knew it was to
this extent There was the every day after school
stuff, but on weekends the stepbrother would often
wake her up by tickling her, and wait until the
parents were gone and tickle her.. He’d have friends
staying overnight, and would tell them exactly where
Mary was most ticklish and they’d chase her, pin her
and tickle her worst spots. Apparently, they’d do
stupid things like draw on her belly (which killed her
at the time, although her belly isn’t as ticklish
now), write on the soles of her feet or have
“contests”, where they’d use things like pencil
erasers or edges of pens and kind of swirl them in her
bellybutton and make her tell which tickled the most.
She really, really hates having her bellybutton
tickled. She said once when her mom & stepdad were
away, they tickled her throughout an entire NFL
football game. She said she’d be in tears just from
having he & friends telling her they were going to
tickle her feet and underarms. I’ve got to say, it
really makes me rethink the whole tickling scene, but
of course I know not everybody is a jerk like they
were. After school, he (I guess she was referring to
the step-brother) would sit on her legs and torture
her feet sometimes for the duration of an entire tv
show, whatever reruns were on then, and verbally tease
her about being so ticklish. Then after dinner the
step-dad would tickle her very badly everywhere
(except he did leave her feet alone). She said the
stepdad would dig into her sides and belly very hard,
and it tickled her very badly but was also painful.
Back then, she said she had terribly sensitive spots
just above her hips and he would get her there. And
she said she never got a break, because people at
school would tickle her all the time, although that
improved once her ticklish spots near her hips went
away.
Anyway, back to the phone conversation, I heard Linda
say something about “growing out of it”, and I kid you
not, Mary was as mad as I’ve ever seen her. She
yelled “you don’t always grow out of it” and said
something about how it still makes her sides and feet
hurt to think about getting tickled so badly when she
was a kid.
Linda said something I couldn’t make out, but Mary
said something about some friend of hers in college
(some girl named Sharon whom I’ve never met, but I’ve
seen pictures of her – darned hot, a bit chubby, part
Korean, huge breasts) wasn’t ticklish until she was in
high school. No idea if that’s true or not, but I’ll
just accept it. I also have no idea what the point
there was, maybe something about people becoming
ticklish later in life. Anyway, Mary yelled something
like “I bet you really like remembering when Dad
tickled the crap out of you. I don’t remember you
exactly asking him to tickle your feet. You were just
complaining about (whatever the name of the guy Linda
is dating) tickling you all night long just the other
night”.
Mary was saying something else, but got interrupted
and I could hear Linda shouting over the phone “I
wasn’t being tickled, I said he was squeezing my
sides. I’m not ticklish”, and then something else but
I couldn’t make it out, but then something like “I’ve
told you 1000 times I’m not ticklish”.
Mary started to calm down, but her voice sounded
distressed and a little angry still, but I think just
more fatigued of the whole conversation. She asked
her mom something like if she wasn’t ticklish, why was
she crying and screaming when Mary’s dad tickled her.
I didn’t hear it, but I gather her mother said
something like she was faking it because Mary rather
calmly asked “why would you fake it?”. I didn’t hear
what Linda said, or the rest of the conversation,
because I didn’t want to act too interested, but after
they hung up Mary reported that Linda said she faked
being ticklish because men seemed to like tickling her
(gee, good-looking woman, curvy body, you think she’s
super-ticklish, of course you’d like tickling her…) or
at least thinking they were, so she just went along
with it. Something to the effect of if she’s not
ticklish, but fakes being ticklish, and somebody likes
thinking they’re really tickling her, no big deal.
Apparently, Linda said the more she faked it, the more
men seemed interested in her so she just over the
years started pretending she was extremely ticklish.
She just acts like she’s really tickled whenever
somebody tries tickling her and lets them believe it.
Mary reported that Linda said she wasn’t even ticklish
as a kid, and she even wished she was ticklish just so
she’d know what it felt like. During a part of the
conversation I wasn’t there for, Mary said she asked
her ‘so your feet aren’t ticklish?” And Linda said
they weren’t. Apparently, Linda said something like
“I’m sorry you have it so bad, you should just get
over it”.
Kind of blows my theory on ticklishness running
between mother & daughter. Mary told me in the past
she would see her dad tickle-torturing her mother, but
maybe her mother really was faking it. Kind of a
shame, as Linda really is drop-dead pretty with a
great body even at 50, but I guess some people really
just aren’t ticklish.
