View Full Version : Hypocritical poll numbers

I wanted to post some poll numbers I heard directly from CNN, which shows the hypocracy in this country, and is an indication of why things can be so messed up.
According to the poll. 54 % of those surveyed feel we made a mistake by going to war in Iraq, compared with 41% who feel we were justified. 60% say that they would feel comfortable with John Kerry as President. Yet, despite this, 51% of the respondants said that they trusted Bush as President more, compared with 43% trust confidence in Kerry. I hear these numbers, and think to myself, do these people surveyed perhaps want a joint ticket of Kerry and Bush for different reasons? I was almost like, make up your minds people.
I almost wonder in this country how many people go to the polls with a basic understanding of the issues, instead of just voting on gut, or who they like more as a person. I know many people in Lancaster county who are middle class have admitted to me that they vote Republican because it is family tradition, rather than being what is best for their pocketbooks or their views. That to me is sad. If you are a strong Republican with those convictions, then fine, I may not agree with you, but I have to respect that. On the other hand, if you vote Republican based on county, neighbor, or family tradition, that is sad, because to me that is not individualism. My family is split, as my father is a Republican, and my mom Democrat. I cast my vote by watching the candidates in office, and on the campaign trail, and, while Iam an admitted Democrat, if a Republican has a valid point or argument or plan, I will listen with an open mind. My point is here, whatever you are, GOP, or Democrat, fine, but we need to be aware of what we are doing. This is our government, and the issues are too important, and we need to vote based on the courage of our convictions, rather than on tradition or what is ingrained in us from others.

That's why polls mean very little Mitch. Statistics mean even less sometimes. It's a matter of which way you want the results to be skewed.

If everyone just ignored the polls and polsters, then we wouldnt be bothered with results that make no sense. ;)

I do agree partially, Ray. Unfortuantely, polls are often how we elect politicans. While no pre election poll is iron clad, numbers often determine who wins and who doesnt. Again, I partially agree that polls can be not as relevant as they seem. However, they can be relevant factors of political elections, and public sentiment on issues, I think.

If indeed "we" elect because of polls then "we" get what we deserve. I pay no attention to them when making that important a decision.

Look at voting records. Read transcripts on position. Make an intellegent decision.

We should not base who we vote for on what a tiny % of the voting population says when asked 3 or 4 questions.
