France does not know it, but we are at war with America. Yes, a permanent war, a vital war, a war without casualties, at least on the surface. — Former French President Francois Mitterand to his longtime confidant, Georges-Marc Benamou

Taken from this page:

"Damn Americans. Hate those bastards." --Carolyn Parrish, Canadian parliament member

British Prime Minister Tony Blair complained that "some of the rhetoric I hear used about America is more savage than some of the rhetoric I hear about Saddam and the Iraqi regime."

Taken from John Gibsons book "Hating America - The New World Sport". Both quotes are taken from this page:

Because it was in our best interests to do so.

Considering the help the french gave during the war of independence, one could say it was owed. But, i know Americans will continue to hate the french. I mean, god forbid they not want a war which has proven to be made under terrible inacuracies and misinformation at best or lies at worst.

Shem's already commented on your Putin thread rather nicely.

And as far asthe Al-qaida and Iraq connection, i think your own post does a good job of dismissing it on it's own without my help.

It still doesn't change the fact that the French President says "We are at war with the US".

It's okay for other countries to hate America, but we're required to love everybody.

Quote from Secretary Rumsfeld Interview with Roger Hedgecock (http://www.rogerhedgecock.com/main.html), Newsradio 600 KOGO yesterday, Wednesday, June 30, 2004

that he was required by the United Nations over a period of some 17 resolutions to file a declaration declaring what he had. And everyone agreed he had filed a fraudulent declaration as to what weapons of mass destruction he had.

Now what’s actually happened? Right now you have the Iraqi Survey Group, which is a multinational group that’s out there reviewing documentation and looking at suspect WMD sites. I was with the Polish minister of defense this weekend in Istanbul, Turkey at the NATO Summit. And in the course of that, he pointed out that his troops in Iraq had recently come across – I’ve forgotten the number, but something like 16 or 17 – warheads that contained sarin and mustard gas.

Now these are weapons that we always knew Saddam Hussein had that he had not declared and they have tested them and I have not seen them and I have not tested them, but they believe that they are correct that these, in fact, were undeclared chemical weapons -- sarin and mustard gas

You can find the transcripts of the show here:

oh, not at all Drew. But then again, a country which is resposible for starting a war is usally looked down on just a little, aren't they? And i assume your painting me a liberal. *sigh* I don't belong to any particuler party drew. I simply call it as i see it.

That is an interesting article Buggs. However, we'll have to give it time and see if anything comes up about it. I'm sure that if what he says is true, it will be very big news. Time will certainly tell.

The French Government and it's leader have a utter disdain for the U.S. They cannot be trusted. We paid them back and more freeing them from Nazi Germany. They have fought us EVERY step of the way with everything we do in Iraq. This goes back to their government refusing to allow us to fly over their airspace. The French are on the take and have been with the 'Oil for Food Program. Many of my friends fighting in Iraq have found caches of weapons in crates dated DURING this war that have the 'Made in France' label on them. Yes, we gave the Iraqis weapons TO FIGHT AGAINST IRAN....end of story. Apples and oranges trying to compare the two. I strongly suggest that those of you who do NOT know why the French have it in for us, go to Fox News. There are countless acts directly against the U.S. not only diplomatically but especially within the U.N. The oil for food scandal will point directly to the French Government once investigations are completed. We talk about how the Saudis can't be trusted, at least they sit on something useful, crude oil. The French have nothing to offer except headache. We should move to get them out of the U.N. We also should all be boycotting any goods from France...'cept for video clips from French Tickling of course! lol! This is not even an argument. If you want to know why, go to Fox News, fair and balanced, presents both sides. The French are your enemy in terms of their government. Their government hates us and so we should not buy their stuff. Period. Next topic please! :sowrong:

i travel to paris and the country side at least once each year for business.

my experiences have been nothing short of splendid hospitality. and not merely on the part of my business associates, but the everyday french man or woman in the street.

i honestly love the french. (although the obsession with cheese is not normal :wow: )

....."i'm just trying to understand exactly where all this hostility comes from towards the french?"

Thats an easy one to answer Cosmo.....the French....thats were it comes from.

They dont like anybody.

Interesting to know how well informed some of the Americans suddenly become in a thread like this, normally they are crowing about how they saved Britains "ass" and how we would be speaking German if it was not for them.

Or could it be my little history lessons are making their mark?

Could the British forces have liberated Western Europe all by themselves? Or better yet, could the Russians have beaten Germany by themselves?

As far as paying back France for them helping us out in the Revolutionary war,I think we payed them back in World War One

Typical conservative assumption... I'm a liberal, but I have issues with a lot of countries, not just ours. You have to constantly question things to improve them. I don't know about you, but when I see a problem with my own country, I like to fix it, rather than let it fester just so that I can have some kind of patriotic bullshit to spout off. Pride is one thing; complacency is another....

One last thing... France and America share a lot of antagonism mostly because of their similarities.... We both have a tendency to do things our own way, regardless of the consequences. We both are quite arrogant as well... As a result, I tend to find the French humorous in the same way I find many of my fellow Americans...
