It has just been announced that John Edwards has been named as John Kerry's running mate. I believe this was an incredibly smart choice by Kerry. Edwards is young, idealistic, handsome, and has true human feeling for the lower and middle class. In addition, I think Edwards has a terrific and lively personality to compliment John Kerry's somewhat dry and laid back demeanor.
Most important, from a political standpoint, Edwards will be a great asset to Kerry in key battleground states, especially in the south, where winning states is key to winning an election. Analyists likened this to John Kennedy in 1960, where Kennedy chose Johnson, whom he did not have as good a personal chemistry with as some others, but who he knew could bring him key states in the south, and propel him to victory, which it did in that very close election that year. There has been talk that perhaps the personal chemistry between Kerry and Edwards may not be as good as some of the other choices, but Kerry, like John Kennedy did in 1960, chose Edwards because he knew it will give him the best chance to win, and could be a key in what should be a very close election in 2004.
Iam personally thrilled with the choice. In my opinion, I had thought that perhaps the Democrats should have picked Edwards for president, but VP is fine. Hopefully, if they win and do a good job, Edwards will be president in 2013, at which time he'll be just 60. I hope we can have 16 years of these men to get the country on track.
So, there we go. Let the battle begin, and hopefully for us Democrats, this dream team ticket will be the key to saying sayanora to Bush and Dick come November.
