Bored? I am...here's a few puzzlers...some easy, some medium, a few difficult:

1. There's one sport in which neither the
spectators nor the participants
know the score or the leader until
the contest is over. What is it?

2. What famous North American landmark is
constantly moving backward?

3. Of all vegetables, only two can live to produce
on
their own for several growing seasons. All other
vegetables must be replanted every year. What are
the only two perennial vegetables?

4. At noon and midnight the hour and minute hands
are exactly coincident with each other. How many
other times between noon and midnight do the hour
and minute hands cross?

5. What is the only sport in which the ball is
always in the possession of
the team on defense, and the
offensive team can score without touching the ball?

6. What fruit has its seeds on the outside?

7. In many liquor stores, you can buy pear brandy,
with a real pear inside the bottle. The pear is whole
and ripe, and the bottle is genuine; it hasn't been
cut
in any way. How did the pear get inside the bottle?

8. Only three words in standard English begin with
the
letters "dw". They are all common. Name two of
them.

9. There are fourteen punctuation marks in English
grammar. Can you name half of them?

10. Where are the lakes that are referred to in the
"Los Angeles Lakers"?

11. There are seven ways a baseball player can legally
reach first base without getting a hit. Taking a base
on balls - a walk - is one way. Name the other six.

12. It's the only vegetable or fruit that is never
sold
frozen, canned, processed, cooked, or in any other
form but fresh. What is it?

13. How is it possible for a pitcher to make four or
more strikeouts in one inning?

14. Name six or more things that you can wear on your
feet, that begin with the letter "s".

#11

I can come up with 2 of the 6 ways for #11. Hit by a pitch gets the batter to first base. The second way is by a strikeout. I'm not sure of the rules behind it but I've seen it twice now tonight during the Braves-D'Backs game. The pitcher throws it in the dirt and the batter strikes out by swinging but the catcher misses it. Somehow he gets to run and everybody can advance. Maybe somebody can explain that to me.

And #13 I suppose

Considering what I just posted about the strikeout hit, I suppose if the strikeouts are recorded then technically there are 4 or more strikeouts during one inning for one picther. 5 batters come up to bat, 2 make it on base but "strikeout" and 3 actually strikeout.

2) is a glacier
3) potatoes and peas
4) once per hour, therefore, 12
9) .,;:'"()!?
12) banana
13) the guy swings at the third strike, the catcher fucks up and then the guy runs to first. It is a strike out but there is no OUT given.
14) socks, shoes, sandals, slippers, spaghetti, and snot

;) :D

WHAT ARE THE ANSWERS!?

Patience Sand...

Let it run a few days so most people take a shot at them, and then I'll post 'em up ok? BTW ... "snot"? I DON'T think that's going to increase your chances of attracting TK sessions buddy...lol!:) Q

Only a few...

Some people consider chess a sport, that would qualify for #1.

#4: 10 times between noon and midnight

#7: The bottles get fixed to the branches when the pear is still very small; then the pears grow inside the bottles.

#8: dwell, dwarf, dwindle

#12: Durian (also called Stink-Fruit) from SE-Asia

#9: same guess as Sandman.

#14: three pairs of socks (=6 things) :p . But seriously: shoes, sandals, slippers, socks, stockings, skiboots.

I'm not very good at botany (#3+6), and I know next to nothing about baseball or most other American sports, although I've played basketball myself 30 years ago. The other questions are just not within my knowledge. I can't wait to hear the answers! :)

Let me try no.11...
catcher dropping a clean strike 3..this is because the ball is still "live" if the catcher doesn't handle it
intentional walk..does this count as a walk as you posted it?
catcher interference
error
hit by pitch
fielders choice
How did I do?

While I'm at it:
4...11 times
5...baseball/softball
9...period,comma,colon,semicolon,apostrophe,question mark, exclamation point, parentheses, quotation marks, hyphen, but then again, you can look on your keyboard....
12...banana
how about the grand canyon for no. 2?

7) The seeds for the pear are put in the bottle before anything, then the Brandy, it actually grows as if it was in soil.

11) Drop 3rd strike, error, hit by pitch, intentional walk, fielder's choice, pinch runner.

Can you tell which ones are right and which ones we still have left?

Yup...

I could...but I won't until Monday night...:D

#10

10) The Los Angeles Lakers used to be the Minneapolis Lakers (Minnesota - Land of 10,000 Lakes)

Tomatoes

Actually, tomatoes self-propagate from season to season, if allowed to do so. They are one of two sure-fire botanical signs that an otherwise undistinguished plot of land once held a homesite: orange ditch lilies, where the mail box was; and tomato plants, where the outhouse was.

Just a few shots in the dark...

#1 - Boxing?
#2 - The Mississippi River, which runs the "wrong" way
#3 - Potato vines and Pea plants
#4 - 11 times
#5 - Keep Away? Hot Potato? Tennis?
#6 - Strawberry
#7 - When the flower beginst to blossom it is taped inside the bottle
#8 - Dwarf Dwindle and Dwell
#9 - Semi-Colon, Colon, Hyphen, Comma, Period, Exclamation Point, Question Mark
#10 - No idea
#11 - Getting hit with the ball is another, that's all I know
#12 - Absolutly no clue
#13 - Instant Replay?
#14 - Socks, Shoes, Sandals, Sneakers, Slippers, Snowshoes (Skis, Snakes, Someone Else's Footgear....)

Just a random grouping of potential answers.

Answers....

ANSWERS:

1.Boxing.

2. Niagara Falls. The rim is worn down about 2 and
a half feet each year because of the millions of gallons
of water that rush over it every minute.

3. Asparagus and rhubarb.

4. Ten times (not eleven, as most people seem to
think).

5. Baseball.

6. Strawberry.

7. The pear grew inside the bottle. The bottles are
placed over pear buds when they are small, and are
wired in place on the tree. The bottle is left in
place
for the whole growing season. When the pears are
ripe, they are snipped off at the stems.

8. Dwarf, dwell, and dwindle.

9. Period, comma, colon, semicolon, dash, hyphen,
apostrophe, question mark, exclamation point,
quotation marks, brackets, parenthesis, braces, and
ellipses.

10. In Minnesota. The team was originally known as the
Minneapolis Lakers, and kept the name when they
moved west.

11. Batter hit by a pitch; passed ball; catcher
interference; catcher drops third strike; fielder's
choice; and being designated as a pinch runner.

12. Lettuce.

13. If the catcher drops a called third strike, and
doesn't throw the batter
out at first base, the runner is safe.

14. Shoes, socks, sandals, sneakers, slippers, skis,
snowshoes, stockings, and so on.

Fun? lol...beats me, i just have a wealth of useless info trapped in my vacuum sealed skull...hope some of you enjoyed these! Q
