back when I had the duty blues on the weekend, on the destroyer I was stationed on...when it was moored to Pier 21, at the D&S Piers, Norfolk Naval Base. I'd be out there on the port bridge wing, having a cigarette, watching the activity on the pier, listening to the radio over in the chart house playing the Allman Brothers, or Heart, or Lynyrd Skynyrd...and I would wait...for the delivery guy from Domino's to bring the pizza we'd be waiting for. Or, I would be waiting for the happy drunks to come back on board and raise a ruckus.

I miss those carefree days, when I had absolutely no overhead to worry about, only the next paycheck to look forward to, the next liberty, the next drink. I miss all of my friends.

Sometimes, I go down to the basement, when the wife's not home, and I shut the lights, and I put on the music...and I travel back to visit this place in my dreams, this Ebbets Field that's no more. It's a comfort zone...

Seriously though, I miss my dad, he's still alive, but has had a stroke. I remember him when he was strong, and DAMN was he STRONG! One whoopin' from dad and forget about sitting for a week!
