This thread is for comments about baseball, and only for comments about baseball. This allows people like TicklKitten, who are not baseball fans, to stay out of it, and not be bored. :D
I will start by reminding everybody that the Dodgers are the defending NL West Champions. :D

I think that despite their offseason losses, my Atlanta Braves, with the addition of Tim Hudson, and the return of John Smoltz to the starting pitching rotation, should win the NL East in 2005. Their cause will also be helped, if outfielders Raul Mondesi and Brian Jordan are productive and healthy. Atlanta has made some good moves this off season, they are predicted to win the National League East in 2005 in several pre season baseball publications, and I believe that prediction will come true.
Thank you milagros, for starting this thread. I love baseball.

Not to take anything away from the Braves great record of achievement in that regard, but I have always felt that the streak was interrupted in 1994. That year, the Montreal Expos led when the strike hit. But officially, it doesn't count-there are no 1994 Division champions.

Eric Gagne holds the record for most consecutive saves without a blown save, 84. (2002 to 2004, including a perfect year in 2003 with 55 saves and no blown saves, also a record.)
I think this record is like Joe DiMaggio's streak of getting a hit in 56 consecutive games. It will last for many decades. :D

Well, as most of us know, Spring Training has now started, with the first exhibition games set for this week. I read a legitimate AOL article that said John Smoltz is expected to start for the Braves on opening day, and that Tim Hudson is okay with it. This team certainly knows how to patch holes, as they have a former Cy Young Award winner who became one of baseball's top bullpen closers, starting for them on opening day after a four year absence from the rotation. For us Braves fans, let's hope that it adds up to division title number 14 in a row come October.
Oh, and Ashley, Iam touched that you posted a comment in favor of my Braves. Thank you.:D

The Atlanta Braves, my favorite team, havent had a great spring, but I dont think that really matters, as back in the 80s when they had a bad team, they would always have the best exhibition record, and lose 90-100 games a year. I feel pretty confident that they will be ready, and be playing well when it matters, 9 days and 2 hours from now, at 405pm on Tuesday, April 5th, when they open their season against the Marlins in Florida. Hey, I'm a Cubs fan, been so for years, and even I have to admit that sometimes hope is all that keeps it alive. But I'll take trouble from sadira anytime. :D

Sadira and I are going to watch the Cubs tonight. She is really happy you are a Cubs fan. As for me... well um what can I say. It appears I am going to have a lot of new friends who are Cub fan. That I will have to learn to live with. :grouphug:

Last night, the Dodgers scored 4 runs in the top of the 9th, all scored after two were out, to beat Arizona, 8-7. :D :D

I know I watched the game. I also watched the Pirates beat the Padres and the Giants beat the Rockies on a dramatic 3 run homer by Grissom in the bottom of the ninth to win 10-8. I also watched the Tigers drop a heartbreaker to the Indians 4-3. I also watched the Royals pound the Angels 7-2. I was watching lots of baseball last night.

I am amazed that the Mets are off to their worst start since the early 60's:wow:
milagros317
04-10-2005, 10:52 AM
I can remember the early 60's, in particular 1962 when they lost 120 games. That won't happen again, I am sure. :D
K-Skate417
04-10-2005, 10:53 AM
I remember the Arizona Dickheads, as you call them, lost about 120 games last year.:D:p
milagros317
04-10-2005, 11:09 AM
The Dickheads got to 111 losses, to finish 51-111, which was 42 games behind the NL West winning Dodgers. :p
The Mets 120 losses in 1962 is the 20th century record.
In 1899, there was a team called the Cleveland Spiders in the NL, which went an unbelievable 20-134.
