The Good Guys embarked on a nine day road trip to New York, Atlanta, and Houston, going 5-4. After winning two of three in New York, they dropped two of three in both Atlanta, and Houston. While things between the team were at least superfically calm on the road trip, Mitch called Naomi every night after the games as he always did, pouring his heart out about his ambivalence about the future, and where to go next.
The Good Guys returned home from Houston on Sunday evening, and when Mitch arrived at the apartment, it was past 9pm, and Naomi was lying in bed, in a nightie, reading. After the couple kissed, Mitch had a crazy idea: "Nai, get dressed, I want to take you out to a lovely dinner, and dancing" Naomi laughed: "It's after nine, I'm relaxing, I dont feel like going out dancing, wouldnt you rather stay here, and have fun" Naomi said, rising, and putting her arms around Mitch. "Actually, I was thinking we would do that later. Let's get a sitter for the kids. I gotta get out of here, and be with you alone" Mitch said. Naomi smirked: "Okay, I'll go along with it. Give me a bit to shower and get dressed" Soon, the couple was sitting at a beautiful dinner at a swank outdoor Paradise eatery under a full moon with an outdoor band, overlooking the Atlantic. At Mitch's request, after he slipped the band leader a $20 to play his favorite song, King Harvest's 1973 "Dancing in the Moonlight", Mitch and Naomi got up, and danced cheek to cheek slowly under a full moon. "What could be any better, dancing on a beautiful evening, to my favorite song, under a big full moon, with my only girl. God, life cant get any better. Are you at all aware of how crazy in love Iam with you?" Mitch said, kissing Naomi on the lips. "It's good to have you home. I missed you. Ah, we would have been doing something far different right now, if you didnt insist on us having a fancy dinner, and dancing, but this is nice. I'm enjoying myself" Naomi said.
When the couple sat back down to eat their main meal, Mitch expressed his feelings to Naomi. "Nai, you are the only one I can talk to about this. I have never been so confused in all my life. I love this island, our life here, this team, and our friends. We have everything we need financially, three beautiful kids, our health, and a good marriage now. I should be content, and yet, I feel restless. Part of me wants to stay here forever, and the other part wants to take you and the kids, and run far, far away. Iam so torn, I dont know what to do" Mitch said. "We can discuss it after the season. I've always told you, us being together is the only thing that matters. I love Paradise, our life here, this team, and our home. Yet, us being a couple is all I care about. If you want to leave, I will go with you, anywhere." Naomi said.
That night, when they got home, Mitch and Naomi made passionate love. In bed, Mitch kept tickling Naomi's feet and toes with his fingers, and his tounge and mouth, causing girlish squeals to erupt from her: HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! "If I didnt love you so much, and love tickling, I'd be furious right now, so you're very lucky that I do! " Naomi said, with a scolding tone.
The next night, a rejuvanted Mitch, Naomi, and Good Guy ballclub arrived at the ballpark to open their nine game homestand with the Pirates. Kate Hudson took the ball that night, and gave a strong performance, striking out ten in seven innings, and leaving with a 1-1 tie, only to see the Good Guys score two in the eighth, and prevail, 3-1. Gil Bellows went to the mound on Tuesday, and the team blew a lead in the eighth, and lost. Charlize Theron was on the hill on a Wednesday afternoon before a very large crowd, and pitched into the ninth, before being relieved by Naomi, subbing for a mirgraine ridden Amanda Bynes, in a 5-2 Paradise win.
Thursday was an off day. Mitch and Naomi spent it having lunch, and took in the casino for a couple of hours with some teammates. Everyone was happy to have a respite.
Chicago came to town on Friday night. Neve Campbell pitched well, but the bullpen blew a four run eighth inning lead, in a 7-6 tough defeat. Kate went back to the mound on Saturday night, and was masterful, striking out thirteen, and working on a no hitter until the 7th, before being relieved by Bynes in the ninth, in a tough 2-1 win over Cub ace Kerry Wood. Gil Bellows went to the hill on a beautiful Sunday afternoon before a sellout. He pitched eight strong innings before turning it over to Amanda in the 9th, and a Mitch 8th inning homer, gave the Good Guys the game 3-2.
The strong St Louis Cardinals invaded Paradise on Monday night. After an opening game shellacking of Charlize Theron, Neve Campbell came up big on Tuesday night, pitching into the eighth inning, in a 4-1 win. Kate Hudson would cap the homestand before a sellout on a Wednesday afternoon. She pitched eight strong innings again, fanning ten, and hitting an RBI double. A homer by Mitch in the 8th, and strong relief by Naomi and Bynes in the 9th, gave the Good Guys the game, 5-3. It had been a productive homestand on the field, as Mitch and the team were not letting their off field demons compromise their last life blood, to perform well and win before their loyal fans who had supported them through so much.
In the meantime, the team held it's Saturday night tickle party. The featured lee would be a female fan who had won a contest on WPAR radio, and the prize was to be tickled by her favorite Good Guys players on her 18th birthday. The fan, a thin, blonde student at Nassau University, was tied hands and feet in a bikini bathingsuit as the tickle was began on her neck by Gil Bellows with fingers, as the giggles began to rise from her: HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! NO! Moving down, Michael, the 19 year old third baseman, attacked the fan on her underarms with fingers, and a feather as more giggles erupted:HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! NO PLEASE! HEEHEHEHEEHEHEHE! Next, Left Fielder Dawson ran his fingers down the fan's ribs, and in her sides and belly, as high pitched squeals continued to come from her:HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! NO PLEASE TICKLISH NO! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEH! The next ler was center fielder Ed Burns, who ran his fingers on the fan's inner and outer thighs, and behind her knees, causing bucking. Finally, the team's foot man, Mitch, attacked the adorable fan on her feet with his fingers, a feather, and ice. This drove the fan beserk! She wiggled her toes every which way, and squealed with girlish laughter, begging for mercy:HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! OMG I CANT TAKE ANYMORE! I GIVE UP! NO! NO! NO! PLEASE NO MORE! HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHE! Finally, the tickle ended, and the exhausted fan was untied.
The homestand had been successful in more ways than one. The team had been winning on the field, and being home with his own fans, and Naomi had helped Mitch to calm down. Now came another road trip.
