This is the update Ana posted concerning Andre's accident.
A.N.A. - OFFICIAL WORD ON ANDRE "TLG" OF A.N.A.
Hi to everyone all concerned. This is Ana, typing from the hospital room of
Andre. Yes, it is a fact that Andre was involved in a taxi accident, on
Saturday morning, November 24, 2001.
Here's the latest details: Around 6 am, Andre was leaving the Limelight
nightclub on 20th st and 6th ave from seeing a show with DJ Enuff, Cam'ron, and
Jay Z. He went towards Penn Station with some Japanese friends of his so he
could make sure they got to their train back to New Jersey. After they left,
Andre got some food and caught taxi back to the Bronx. It was raining hard.
The yellow cab proceeded north on the West Side Hwy. From what Andre said, a
few times he had to tell the driver to slow down a bit, because they were
sliding. So the next instant, the cab lost control, and slammed into a right
concrete wall. The car stalled and rolled slowly back into the middle lane,
and then from out of nowhere, a tractor trailer slammed head on into the cab,
knocking it around like sardines. (Yes we are investigating about an 18 wheeler
being on the West Side Hwy NORTH of 56th st. Something is really wrong there!)
Anyway, Andre was pinned into the back of the cab along with the driver.
Another SUV was involved, but we don't know the details as of yet about that.
They were extracted from the crushed taxi, and yes they are both ALIVE. They
were taken to St. Lukes Hospital in Manhattan. He got admitted there late
Saturday afternoon. He was there for a few days and then I got him transferred
to a "better" location.
Many tests were taken, Xray's, Cat Scan, and the dreaded MRI. Andre's
condition is: Major neck problems and pain in left and right shoulders and
arms, and can barely move them up. From a moment he thought he was paralyzed,
but that turned out not to be true. He is lying next to me now with neck
brace. His Doctor said today Andre will undergo surgery this Monday
afternoon. His 3rd and 4th verterbre (or some doctor term) has to be removed
and and placed in an titanium tube (pipe) and replaced and put back into his
neck. Something about Andre having neck pains from the past, and now is the
time to fix all of this. Being that the area is thin around his neck close to
his spine. Also we are waiting for word from the orthopedic doctors about his
rotator cuff that were Xrayed last night.
So in the meantime, we are all praying for him. He is well, he can speak,
talk, write, eat. All the rest of him is fine, he just can't move his neck too
well or lift his arms. You can leave any messages or kind words on his cell at
917-807-2304. He also says if you want more details, then ask him by phone, he
has all the time in the world to explain, he will be in here for awhile.
As for people with video orders or questions, please be patient, because this
sets our family back a bit, but between myself and Cindy, we will do our best
to handle things with our work schedules. I thank my firm and Cindy's job for
