How should a foreign language tk video be presented?

If you were to watch a tickling video made in a foreign language that you don't understand or understand imperfectly, which of the following options would suit you best?

1) Occasional verbal comments/translations in English
2) Occasional subtitles when especially relevant
3) Full subtitles
4) Best without any translations at all

Subtitles

The usual combination is yellow subtitles on a field of daisies, or white on a background of snow. I find subtitles irritating and distracting. I can figure out "Zut alors!" for myself.

i think if someone being tickled crazily says something like 'this is worse than the time my father tortured me!' i would certainly want to hear that. if it is in a different language then how can i figure out such a crazy comment? so my answer would probably fit best into 'subtitles when especially relevant'

Occasional sub-titles when relavent. I saw a video of Kujman's like that and it didn't detract from the viewing pleasure at all.

Full subtitles, but be sure that there is sufficient room on the bottom of the screen so that they do not block the action (most especially that they don't block the actress' feet).

Subtitles are quite distracting and in my humble opinion a waste.
We don't need lines of "ha ha ho ho hee's" to tell what is going on.

All that is really needed in a tickle vid is lots of relentless tickling!

Not only are they distracting from a visual, but...

It's not as if you're talking about quality cinema here! It's tickle porn! I think most of the talking done in vids is to conceal the lack of ticklishness anyway. *shrug*

Great inquiry, Francois! I was going to suggest that that myself at some point.

The general answer is, make subtitles optional. Make it closed captions that one can turn off on the TV set, or just offer two versions of the tapes for sale, with and without.

I personally would like full subtitles. Plain laughter and thrashing around are nice, but I enjoy it much more if I know what it means. I like to observe the interactions between the tickler and the ticklee, to know what the ticklee is feeling -- does (s)he love it or hate it, is (s)he out of his/her mind or fully alert, why is (s)he doing the video, is (s)he fighting the tickler or helping, etc. Body language is sometimes hard to decipher, especially when tickling makes the body respond differently from the mind, especially when the feelings are so complex (I can't stand it, please keep going, I love it but will faint in a moment), especially when you've got Asperger's and body language is generally an enigma. So, gimme more info on what's going on!

I just of something that I'd like to chip in with. One thing that irritates me beyond measure is facial tickling. I really cannot stand to even watch it and it drives me bloody crackers! IS this something that you sensed a lot of people would want to see Francois, or is it just something you added on the spur of the moment?
