We saw a lot of good music come out this year, although most of it wasn't on the radio. What would you say is the best album of this year?

My choice is "Push the Button" by the Chemical Brothers.

While I can't say it's the "best" album of '05...

The only NEW album that I went out and bought on the strength of one song and then wound up loving the whole CD was Anna Nalick's "Wreck of the Day".

Kanye West's Late Registration is excellent. Smart wordplay, interesting music, and simply fun to dance to -- everything a hip-hop record should be.

Also, is Push the Button really that solid? I've heard the title track, and I like it well enough, but the last several under-the-radar/"indie" albums that I heard great reviews about were mediocre.

Surprisingly i really didn't buy to many new albums this year.

I would say Norma Jeans new album -Loud and in your face just a total screaming brutal loud music from the first track to last.

It's my favorite Chemical Brothers album, although I wouldn't call it "indie." It's very different from a lot of their other stuff. Some fans love it, others feel like it's too different. Personally, I like it when a band branches out....

Audioslave's second album is "Out of Exile." I liked it a lot more than the first album.

Other than those mentioned in this thread, I'd have a difficult time naming one album to come out in 2005. :wowzer:

I'm going to have to second The White Stripes and Get Behind me Satan. Way too solid to ignore. A close second would be System of a Down and Hypnotize.

And I hate to rain on eveyone's parade because it IS an amazing album, but Green Day's American Idiot was released in 2004.

Cheers!

Only bought 2 "new" cds last year......and yeah, add me to the list....

The White Stripes- "Get Behind Me Satan". The song "Blue Orchid" has to be one of the catchiest of the year.

The other new disc was "Twin Cinema" by The New Pornographers.

Actually I forgot two cause I got them recently in the last few weeks:

The Budos Band -this cd harkens back to the great "afro-soul" instrumental bands of the late 60s/early 70s. Really awesome collection from start to finish.

Les Terribles -French garage band with a foxy-looking gal on lead vocals and a back-up band with mop-haircuts and wayfarers. Cool french-version of The Kinks "All Day and All of the Night". Fun stuff.
