Anyone know where I can get Microsoft Word for my comp? I have Windows Xp on my machine and the only processing software I have is Wordperfect (which stinks). I really need word...can you buy it seperately in a store or download it from a site somewhere?

The cheapest way to purchase MS Word is to get their MS Works bundle. It has a recent, but not the latest, full version of Word in it, then all you have to do is update whatever patches, fixes, etc. are available from the MS website. If memory serves, it is Word 2000, and that should be good enough for most peeps needs.
That's what I did.

You can try OpenOffice, available at http://www.openoffice.org/, which has free versions of nearly every Microsoft Office program that can do most anything MS Office can do (Including saving files to the .doc format for use with Word on another computer.).
If you wish to purchase Word by itself, a simple source is Amazon (www.amazon.com). Either go there and search for "Microsoft Word 2003" or try this link: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000BZ54V/qid=1135727891/sr=8-2/ref=pd_bbs_2/002-4538341-2110413?v=glance&s=software&n=507846

There is a freeware program called Abiword that works almost as good as MS Word but is completely free. The program is called AbiWord. You can get a copy from www.tucows.com . Its saves files as .doc and several other formats and has a spell checker as well. For a freeware program its not bad. :D :D :p

Sorry MS Works does not contain MS Word. It contains a word processing programme, but it is not MS Word. Unless you save your work as a RTF file the two are not even compatable. If its Word you want you may have to do the legit thing and buy it. I guess it depends on your own finances.

Oh ... so I guess that little slanted W in the blue box up in my tool bar that when I clicked on it brought up some odd programme called Microsoft Word is really some pirate software ... LoL .. !!
below is an excerpt from a review at this link:
http://reviews.zdnet.co.uk/software/productivity/0,39024190,10002110,00.htm
"Microsoft Works Suite 2003's new design and bundled applications clearly mark it out for students and anyone who needs productivity software at home: all but the tiniest of businesses should look elsewhere. This suite's less complicated programs cannot perform the same complex calculations as Excel, nor can they generate presentations as dynamic as those of PowerPoint. But for a mere £119 (inc. VAT), this suite contains plenty of family-friendly applications: a slick, Web-style task launcher; a simple spreadsheet; a database; a calendar; an address book; a fully functional copy of Word 2002; and a bunch of bonus software, including a mapping program, an encyclopaedia, a personal finance program and an image editor. If you can do without Excel or PowerPoint, this bargain home-productivity suite is the best software deal that Microsoft has to offer. Businesses, though, should stick with the Office suite, even if it is overpriced."

Thanks for all the help. Much obliged. :)
Ok Storm I made a genuine mistake, but in my defence I did say that MS Works did not contain Word, which it does not. I did not mention anything about the Microsoft Works Suite.
