Well.........isn't that just grand that Naomi Watts doesn't even get a poke from Kong. With the three hour running time, you'd think they wouldn't OMIT that scene.

Which, I must say, is hot and looks FANTASTIC in the new DVD re-release of the original 1933 version. Fay Wray...oh my gosh. So hot.

Side question: Fay Wray was apparently tickled in another movie, but I've never seen it and don't know the name. Can anyone help me out?

Ok, so that alone.......just the classic Kong scene of Kong tickling/teasing her, always been one of my favorites. When I was a kid, I wasn't sure if it was tickling. Seeing it two nights ago, there's NO question about it. The music even goes along with it and plays "tickle" music.

But that's not why I'm writing!!!!

I watch the extras, which are FANTASTIC.

The first featurette is a documentary about the director Merrian Cooper. And in that documentary is fantastic, fantastic footage of him tickling the crap out of his pretty young brunette wife. This is definitely no question about it, he's got a great hold on her sides and she's trying to get away, but he won't let her, and I couldn't believe my eyes basically.

So.....if any clipmakers out there: if you already like King Kong, you simply MUST have this DVD anyway.....it's superb beyond all words. The special effects are still stunning. The extras are fantastic. But.........there's also a great mainstream tickling in there, not to mention the Kong tickling Fay scene within the movie itself.

I saw it at my mom's, I'm going to order it soon, as soon as I'm not broke anymore!

Has anyone else seen this? I'll even tell you where it comes in in the documentary. It's right in between the King Kong section and Becky Sharp/invention of Technicolor sequence. Basically, it's at the very end of the King Kong chapter, right before they're showing footage of "Becky Sharp"

According to archived newsgroup posts, Fay Wray was foot-tickled in The Bowery (which was released in 1933, the same year as King Kong): http://groups.google.com/groups?q=fay+wray+bowery+tickle&start=0&hl=en&filter=0

And for more confirmation she was tickled by King Kong, here you go: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&safe=off&q=fay+wray+tickling&btnG=Search

Thanks for the info, Nontkl, and good luck to you, Snap. :D

Thanks for the info!

Incredibley, this site mentions that "The Bowery" is probably her sexiest role.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Being that, in my investigation, I learned that the film opens with a close up on a restaurant they call "Nigger Joes", I doubt this will be rereleased.

However, I found this site that sells it!! I'll buy it when I get money again, after the post-holiday blues!!!

Turns out it's a Wallace Beery movie.

Yes, it's unfortunate that many early movies and TV shows aren't available because of the racism in them. :(

Good luck with that purchase. :D

Ha! That's a hard one to respond to, haha.

I will say this! I also have home movies of Alfred Hitchcock and he tickles the crap out of multiple girls. That's on my agenda to send to Toyou (he's got a big load to work through right now), but if there's any other people who would like to archive my mainstream-on-videotape collection, let me know and I'll send you a tape or two to get started.

Like, for instance, these Alfred Hitchcock home movies!

Kim Novack and Tippi Hedron wouldn't happen to be among them? :woot:

Sadly no Duanne! No Grace Kelly either. I didn't recognize any of the girls he's tickling, and they're all from the 1930's, when he was much younger, none of him being a lecherous old tickler.

I got my copy of Rage in Paris today on DVD. Snap! Should I send it to you??

Nuts! I forgot about Grace!

Rage in Paris? :illogical  I'm sorry, refresh my memory?

I was watching it with the directors commentary, and he specifically says that he had the ape tickle her. And that audiences went crazy over that scene :)

What's really tragic is that, from all reports here, they DIDN'T include that scene in the THREE HOUR remake! Which is supposed to be such a tribute to the original!!

Can't remember if he did the same thing to Jessica Lange in the remake, I seem to remember that he did.

So Fay gets tickled by the ape in the original movie. I have to see it then! I wonder how the ape does that? Anyway, I have to rent the original King Kong then on DVD. Sounds really cool!

I've given it a :bump: for you. :D
Could someone please explain to me what :bump: means? Alex and Ray use it all the time, and it always has me befuddled.

Many thanks.

Cheers. :)

As a thread "ages" it gets "buried" beneath other newer threads, and eventually it disappears from the first page of the subforum it's in. So when one posts to that thread after it's been "buried," that's called a "bump," and the thread gets "bumped" back to the first page so that those members who didn't see it before are able to view it. Cheers. :D

I just want to say that I recently rented the original version DVD of King Kong. I watched the movie very carefully and I hate to say it but there are no tickling scenes in this movie :sowrong:. I don't even notice it being mentioned in Disc II. There is a scene where Kong is peeling off her clothes but he isn't tickling her! I was quite disappointed by this.

Anyway, just wanted to share that.

:redheart: When I first was on this forum, I remember talking with another member about the fact that King Kong never came up in the mainstream section of the forum. I kind of wondered how many people were even aware of the tickling in it. I love that scene- it's one of my absolute favorites, and I saw it when I was a kid. As nontkl mentioned, Fay Wray certainly helps to make that scene. I don't know how many people on the board would get into it today, as it's 'faked'- but what a great job they did! The illusion is complete. Quite frankly, (the original) King Kong is such a great movie, that I would recommend seeing it regardless of the tickle scene.

I watched the 70's remake and was really looking forward to the tickle scene- but in answer to your query, nontkl, it does not occur! Man was I disappointed. I guess you can't expect much from remakes- particularly of films as great as this.

There is a scene where Kong is peeling off her clothes but he isn't tickling her! I was quite disappointed by this.

If memory serves, the tickling occurs after Kong has fought off several creatures on a mountain and within a cave :wiseowl::bat::bunny::xbee: . He had laid Fay Wray down on a rock. He picks her up, and she is just coming to (she must have fainted). Kong has a wide grin on his face- seen from Fay Wray's vantage point (like this :D ). He wiggles his finger over her torso many times, and their is a little trill, or flutter, in the score. It's difficult to describe her reaction, because she doesn't laugh, persay. She does struggle to get out of his grasp, to no avail. This is after he has peeled off some of her clothes.

I received the King Kong collection with Son of Kong and Mighty Joe Young. Find it at oldies.com It has the origional un-cut version and commentary with Merian Cooper, Fay Wray, and Ray Harryhausen.

Hey Jen, sorry you were disappointed, but in fact, that scene IS tickling, and if you listen to the commentary, it will back me up, as will other non-Tickling related sources. I mean, there's no laughter or anything, and obviuosly, it's animated, so it's not going to be REAL tickling, but he strips off some of her clothes and then wiggles his finger on her middle and she squirms and "oh"'s and tries to get out of his grasp. And the musical score gives a little "tickle" music to accompany it.

Disc 2 has a tickling scene in the Merrian Cooper documentary where he is tickling the crap out of his young wife on her waist. The Kong tickling is not mentioned in Disc 2. It's mentioned in the commentary track on Disc 1.

Sorry you were disappointed.....but that's how it goes with mainstream scenes.

I understand what you are saying nontkl so basially it's a very subtle tickling scene then. My confusion was that she didn't actually laugh during that scene. For some reason, I must have missed the tickling scene in Disc 2.

I also didn't listen to the commentary. Perhaps I should rent the DVD again.

Does anybody have the clip where Fay Wray is foot tickled from The Bowery (1933). I have never seen it before and i must!

Shortly after this thread, I bought a copy on E-bay for way too much money, and I will have to tell you.......as mainstream scenes go, it's one of the weakest and slightest. The King Kong scene is actually better. Believe me, I ADORE Fay Wray, I couldn't sleep at night knowing that such a scene existed, but it's really more of a M/M scene first of all, and Fay shows virtually no reaction (and hardly gets tickled anyway)

I'll explain the scene, from what I remember (i'd have to dig it up to get it verbatim):

Fay Wray and her male companion are on the beach, lying belly down. Wallace Beery comes along and sees them, and picks up a big feather and dances it on both of their soles, PRIMARILY the guy's. I think he GRAZES Fay Wray's foot (which is not bare), but there's hardly any reaction. The guy starts to giggle and laugh.

The camera is not that close to them either, it's a few feet away from them to take in the whole scene, all 3 cast members, plus other beachgoers.

I can't make clips, but when I can, I will surely make a clip of it for posterity, but I would HIGHLY recommend no one buys this film for this reason alone. I can promise you, you can wait. I COULDN'T, even though I was warned, and I regretted it.

I repeat: this scene is not worth going out of your way to track down, unless you're more into M/M scenes or vintage old movies, in this case a movie that probably won't get released on DVD as it has some racial stuff in the early part of the movie that wouldn't fly today.
