:fish::sadcry:
It's been a long time time since I posted in this part of the forum. And while I deposited a few battle cries or other such sentiments in NFL posts past, I never bothered to throw out an actual Denver Broncos thread. So for those interested, or totally disinterested, here it is! *cough*
I have a very good feeling about this year. I guess playing the AFC championship game at home doesn't hurt, right? Boy was that a welcome surprise. It felt great to finally win a playoff game again, but I really liked the Broncos chances playing at home against anyone. The recent spat of playoff losses were all away games. I thought the game against New England lived up to the hype. It was contentious right from the opening whistle.
Incidentally, I've followed this team since their 70s heyday, when I was really young. I think it's the colors that first attracted me to the team- I'm actually from New York and have no connection to Colorado. If anyone feels like discussing team history, I'm up for it. But perhaps that's too much to expect as I don't recall ever crossing paths with any Broncos fans on this forum before. At any rate, I'll end this post with one last thought:
GO BRONCOS!

I'm not a true fan of any NFL team, but I'm rooting for the Broncos to beat the Steelers. :D Then I hope the Seahawks beat them in the Super Bowl. :p

Ouch. The Seahawks are one of the Broncos old nemesis, as they used to play in the AFC West. And the one time they met in the playoffs (1983), they crushed my beloved Broncos (a painful memory- Randy Gradishar's last game if anyone knows who he is). Well, as you're not a fan of any NFL team, amk, I guess I'll have to settle for your support in the Championship game. Heck, I'm not looking past that game anyway. But I think Carolina will probably be the NFC representative.

Actually, I'm not a fan of football as much as some other sports, so maybe that's why I didn't know about their past rivalry. To tell you the truth, I'll be happy for, and congratulate, any team that wins SB XL. I wouldn't be surprised if Carolina beats Seattle. I think the Seahawks will have a tougher time with the Panthers than the Broncos will with the Steelers. But whoever wins, they should be great games. :D

Actually CoM (and I just found this out within the last couple of weeks) Lyle Alzado was from the area where I live. They owned a bar of something around here. Strange.
And I always liked the Broncos...until Elway. Spoiled little brat.
Now then...GO STEELERS! :manicd:

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the games, too. Actually, I watched the Broncos-Patriots game alone (probably best for me) and was yelling at the TV set throughout the game. Could anyone hear me? This weekend, I might watch the games at my folks place and will have to tone it down a bit. I thought it was a funny year as the quality of play was so much stronger in the AFC.

Funny, Toyou. Did I mention that even Steelers fans are welcome to post in this thread ;) ? I've seen a lot of Steelers fans on this board. I like coach Cowher and Jerome Bettis- I was pulling for your Steelers against the Colts, and not just so the Broncos would play at home. It was quite a game. If I was a Steelers fan, I think I would have suffered multiple heart attacks. They certainly deserved to win and thank goodness they did, as Bettis would have been the goat in what might have been his last game (could he really have gone out like that?- probably not).
Lyle Alzado- he was slightly more tame when he was wearing the Broncos uniform. But I get the distinct impression that he was a bit crazy- legitamately so, not an act. That is strange that he was a PA local- I feel like I must have known that at one time. I'm not sure that I would have wanted to enter his establishment :idunno: - yet maybe we could have reminisced about the old Orange Crush days and he would have poured me a free beer :ermm: .
I probably shouldn't recount the past playoff meetings between the Broncos and Steelers- although they're not all bad. In '77 that was a huge win for the Broncos on their way to the Superbowl. That and the win over the defending champion Raiders in the Championship game legitimized the team (although now, those players are all but forgotten- temporary legitamacy, I guess). But in '78 you destroyed us: 33-10 I remember. We had a great defense that year- perhaps our best- but you had a great defense and offense. Damn you! Gradishar had to play that game injured. Then in '84, we went like 13-3 in the regular season and were entirely too confident entering the game against the Steelers in the playoffs. That was a heartbreaker after the season they had. But all is forgiven after the '97 Championship game en route to the Broncos 1st Super Bowl win. So I guess we're even, right?

Okay- as in amk's case, half your support is better than nothing.
GO BRONCOS!

Geez- I guess I wouldn't have been the only one. Could it have been the beer and buffalo wings? That's another reason one should stay home.

Im actually a NY Jets fan (stop laughing) with the future coach of the year Eric Mangini but I do want the Broncos to beat the Steelers on Sunday. Reason is I like Jake Plummer because he finally listened to his coaches and stopped making Bret Favre-like ridiculous throws week after week. I only wish that they would let Tatum Bell be the main running back. Oh well, good luck to the Broncos on Sunday and let them represent the AFC with pride! :wavingguy
PS-But ill never forgive them for beating the Jets in the AFC Championship in 1998! :idontwann

Sorry about that. I can remember when the Jets blocked that punt early in the third quarter and fell on it in the endzone for a touchdown- they were up 10-0, and I became very nervous. In such a low scoring game, that felt like a definite deficit. I had bet a co-worker $20 when the playoffs began- and I almost never bet- that the Broncos would go farther in the playoffs than the Jets. And even though I won, I really regretted having bet that money. I was anxious enough rooting for the Broncos without having money riding on it.
I wouldn't laugh at the Jets. They've had their ups and downs but have been respectable, for the most part, for a while now. They just had some really bad breaks this year. Excuse me for dredging up the past, but I can remember when they had Pete Caroll as coach. And I thought he was pretty good. The team took a late season dive, going 6-10, and they dismissed him. Then they picked up Rich Kotite (I guess they were really thinking ahead) and went 1-15. Now those were the down years. That was easy to forget, though, when Parcells and company came aboard.
I agree with your assesment of Jake Plummer. Perhaps its fair to say he's wised up. But the opinion expressed by the TV commentators may not be far off; the change in environment, from Arizona to Denver, required a change in attitude. The types of throws he had to make to win games at Arizona were no longer necessary on a winning team with a strong ground game. After all, what kind of running game did they have in Arizona? You don't have to answer that. But that game Jake Plummer played with Arizona against the Cowboys in the playoffs (a winning effort) was, to me, an absolutely classic, driven playoff performance.
Talk about a well-worn part of the forum. The last post in this thread was around four hours ago, and I counted 19 threads above it within that course of time. Thanx for your well-wishes, Sacrifice!
