It is interesting reading posts and replies where threads are hijacked or someone makes a thoughtful argument only to have an unrelated or thoughtless reply added to the thread. I have noticed in many of these cases there are large sig pics involved when this occured.
So I began to ponder is there a correlation, is there a way of figuring out the value of a reply?
Here is my thought.
Take the number of lines in the reply and take it to the third power, so a three line reply is a value of 9. This represents the volume of quality in he reply as volume is in three dimensions.
Next divide this by the square root of the number of pixels of the signature pic (height times width). For example a signature picture that is 100 pixels by 200 pixels has a value of 141 (square root of 20,000). If there is no signature then disregard this entirely as this only for replys with sig pics.
Next you divide this value by how important the original post was. If it is a well thought out post with deep spiritual and intellectual meaning the relevent impportance factor (RIF) is only 1-4. If the post had decent social comentary but wasn't of great thought the RIF is 5-10. If the post is mostly entertaining with little redeeming social value then the RIF is 11-17. If the post is mostly fluff or a joke then the RIF is 18-20. You multiply the RIF factor to the other calculations to get the IGR.
The next step is to calculate the Inane Generic Response value (IGR, pronounced IGoR).
So for a 3 line reply to a post with a RIF factor of 1 with a signature picture 100 x 200 the IGR factor is .06. This is well below 1 so the response is inane pointless fluff relative to the size of the signature.
If the reply was to a post which was initially a joke then the IGR factor would be 9 divided by 141 multiplied by 20 = 1.27 or extra relevant.
However, if the IGR factor on a fluff piece exceeds 10 then it has a reverse effect and becomes an inane response to a joke.
If someone wrote a 15 line reply to a joke post using a 100x200 sig pic, and there is an RIF of 18 for the original post then the total IGR would be 430.8 which makes it very lame ass relative to the signature pic. In these extreme cases a larger signature pic is required to make the IGR more in line with socially accepted norms.
