ok nascar fans... we can discuss who we like and dont like. who should win and who should lose lolol.. or anything about nascar we wish. i should have let lk start this . she is still the queen of nascar here on the forum. so come on start your engines .. and for a first question.. wonder who won the poll? or has it been raced yet? also i love night races even more than daytime ones because i love to watch the sparks fly as they zoom around corners.

Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to watch Jimmy Johnson lock his bumper to Jeff Gordon and see them both kiss the wall week after week. I'd never get tired of seeing that!

Go MARK MARTIN, you crazy old man. :bowing:

while i agree with you in context.. i like jimmy but jeff and hmm is it kurt busch i dont like? anyway those two can lock bumpers and end up last week after week as far as i'm concerned. i used to like jeff, but now i think he is too full of himself and also a wimp sorry thats how he looks to me.

and what do you mean you crazy OLD????? man??? i'll have you know, mark is in the prime of his life.

Anyone else catch the CMT special, 10 Greatest Comebacks in Nascar? Mark Martin was on the list for his return to Nascar after failing the first time and having to auction off all his equipment just to pay his bills. A championship in his final year would be the icing on the cake.

Weenies doesn't begin to describe them. I think they were both cut from the same crying towel. Besides, in all honesty, how can you respect someone who calls himself 'the rainbow warrior'?

they are currently running the Busch race and are 8 laps short of half way. They had one race red for snow. It is also not very warm there. Kind of unusual for the Bristol race. You know Isabeau, I would be very happy with a Mark Martin championship also. When you look up the word integrity you find among the definitions a picture of Mark Martin. :rotate:

Lord, I not only watch the whole race, I rewind parts of it over and over again. Though I will say this: if I'm really tired, and it's a boring track or bad TV coverage, I might doze off in the middle. That's rare though!

Bristol is never boring and tomorrow is dedicated to all things Nascar.

Darn fine race today. Most especially had to enjoy JJ's car troubles. I was a bit worried that JG was heading for a good finish, but the last minute spin showed karma in action :D. Tony was doing so well and driving like such a mature veteran, I was so proud. Old tires led to a lower finish than he should have had, but he still got himself into the top ten in points and that's awesome.

Mark Martin ran a quiet and classy race as usual. I'm still thinking we keep our eye on him this year.

Sometimes I think I just want to lock myself in a room with my tv and watch races all the time. No other people, no other commitments, just pizza being delivered throught the window. Oh, and beer. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Hi CTTkkLvr - yes I suppose smart is one word. Isabeau said the others. You know who Gordon reminded me of with that big giant helmet on that scrawny little body? You know that alien in the Warner Bros cartoons? "i'm going to blow up the earth with my super something space modulator" The little one with the scrub brush on his head? That's who.

You wouldn't happen to be a Gordon fan, would you? If so, I'll stop being so mean. :idunno:

OK, I was done here for the night, and went to visit my Nascar forum and read this from 38SadlerFan:

"I watched Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain tonight and believe it or not Greg Biffle's mom called in to complain about how little coverage he got today after the race. He came back from 3 laps down to finish 7th and not a word from the media, she said. She was upset no one was talking about her boy. HA! Whose mom calls in to a show to complain about media coverage? It was too funny."

Lord, I hope my tivo picked up Wind Tunnel. I'll be so sorry I missed that. Poor Greg Biffle.

OK, now I'm done. Night all.

Not much on Jeff Gorden Ave. to speak of. It goes past a truck stop and curves around a corn field and connects to one of the main streets of Pittsboro. Pittsboro has a damn fine fish and steak house though. :jester:

I couldn't see the race today since I'm in working in Montgomery Alabama, but this is a town where the race results are everywhere, so there was no way to for me to get home and watch the race without knowing the winner. I'm a happy girl today.

I drove down here from Baton Rouge yesterday and on the way stopped at a World Market store. Never been in one of these, but get this....they had a TONY STEWART PEZ DISPENSER!!! You can bet your butt I bought it. It's a race car and you push down on the hood and the Pez comes out. And if you pull the back of it, you wind it up and it runs. I was so excited to find it. They don't have stuff like that in New Jersey. I'm such a dork :D

I SWEAR I'm not just saying this- I have absolutely no use whatsoever for diamonds. You take those back right now, rent you a nice RV with a big screen TV and a big fridge full of tea, swing by Michigan and pick up the Pokester, head to NJ and gather me up then pick up slacker in PA and let's head to Texas Motor Speedway.

Then let's never go home. Pokey's boss can join us on the weekends and then in the summer when she's not working and he can have his motorcycles on a trailer on the back and we'll just stay on the road until Homestead.

Can we do that, pretty please? Do you have enough diamonds to cash in?

Wow, that would be way on top of my TO DO list, if I were all powerful.

Hey, I don't watch 24, but did anyone see Carl Edwards on it last week? How did he do?

Oh boys and girls! I am in beautiful Bristol, TN on business and the first thing I did after climbing in my rental car was speed off to find the Bristol Motor Speedway. Not hard to find as you may imagine, and I drove around it (outside) twice, then sat in the parking lot staring up at a GIANT Dale Earnhardt display for quite awhile. The place is absolutely magnificent, huge, unbelievable- I'm telling you, it's like a church to this unholy redneck. Someday, somehow, I just GOTTA see a cup race here.

Then I headed to my hotel, but on the way, in honor of Dale Jr, I found me a drive thru liquor store and bought me a 6 of Bud. Yee haw y'all.

:p Queen LK70, you have such a great way with words and making pictures with those words that just say come on down y'all. That, they say, is a great place to watch a race. I have worked with several folks that have been going there since the 70's. Have a great trip to Tennessee. :p

WE got some interesting racing going on at the Busch race today. My pick for the Busch race was the 60 Edwards. My pick for the Cup race is Jr. in the 8.

lk70
05-02-2006, 12:02 AM
Well JR didn't get to honor his daddy with a win, sadly. That bozo Johnson won again, the jackass. And once again, Tony is number 2 at Talladega. That's like 5 in a row now.

What I found cool about the whole thing- after the big wreck, Kasey Kahne was out due to an injury, so Hermie Sadler drove his car for owner points. Hermie's car had been wrecked in the same crash and couldn't be driven anymore. Mark Martin's car got bashed up. Biffle's car was not in the wreck but blew an engine and since it couldn't be driven anymore, they put Biffle's hood on Martin's car so Martin could go back out. Not sure I've ever seen a hodge podge like this.

Meanwhile, this weekend I went and watched RC racing- this is remote control cars that cost like $1500 and have replacement parts and everything. Some of them run on gas and they actually pit for more! They change tires between races and the whole bit. It was really very cool. I'm going back next Wednesday to watch them race Nastrucks. My contact at the track is actually making me a Tony Stewart truck so I can get a feel for it too. This is the coolest! I'm so glad I've never grown up. And I never will either. So there.

NASCAR isn't a sport!

"This month, as the 2006 season kicks off Feb. 11 at Daytona International Speedway, NASCAR racing is second only to the National Football League (NFL) in television ratings. Last year, 75 million fans went to the track to watch the cars go round and round, making NASCAR the nation's most-watched sport. Indeed, NASCAR has grown so popular that five television networks, including Fox, ABC and ESPN, signed a contract in December valued at $4.48 billion to broadcast NASCAR's various races for eight years beginning in 2007. That's almost double the estimated $2.4 billion deal Fox, NBC and TBS signed with NASCAR in 1999, which expires this year."

I don't like either driver, so I guess I'm at odds with both. I can't stand JJ because he's just a Gordon clone, who I also can't stand. Tony is one of those guys who'll piss and moan that driver's shouldn't do this or that, then turn around and do it himself.

LONG LIVE MARK MARTIN!!!!

And as far as NASCAR not being a sport goes, I believe it was Kenny Schraeder who said "We'll strap you in one of these cars and let you drive at those speeds for 500 miles. If you can talk when you get out of the car, then you can say what you want". Or something to that effect.

As I would LOVE to wrestle with Tony Stewart or Dale Jr. It's nice that we don't have to fight over who gets to wrestle with whom, isn't it?

But I don't want to diminish this great sport and these great drivers into mere idol worship or who's the cuter driver. It's the action behind the wheel that really counts.

So I went out with a new man in my life to watch the Darlington race at a local race bar. He picked me up wearing a Tony Stewart T shirt and admitted that he was sucking up. :D Brilliant move nonetheless. But wait, it gets better - he came over the next day to help me paint a room in my house and showed up wearing a Jeff Gordon shirt. Nothing better than a Jeff Gordon shirt for painting, I say. Ooooh, speaking of number 20, did anyone else see that little teardrop in the corner of his eye? Heheh, that always kills me. It looks to me like it was just an accident, plain and simple. It didn't look like Kenseth intentionally caused that wreck, but it happened. And there was Tony...."wah wah wah". Best part of that is if Tony does something like that, he still tries to blame the other driver.

And that's why I miss #3. He would just shrug, smile and say "That's racing".

PokeyinMich

The new hard tires are interesting, the new track surface is good, I think, but the new lower fuel cell (13) is overboard and makes way too many pit stops for any race let alone a 600 mile one. Johnson was good, but Evernham had his stuff working last night for the win. Rousch had all his cars running last night also.

If you have ever had a broken or factured rib, you can imagine the pain everytime he breathes or brakes, or whatever. I need Steph to translate but i bet the scapula is attached to moving parts. He might not even drive for a week or two. Then again, enough Jim Beam and anything is possible.

So its the shoulder blade and they said this morning that Stewart will porbably start the race. Ricky Rudd will qualify and be on stand by to allow the points to count for the team. How far will he drive? First caution or pit top?

I'm looking for y'all's thoughts on this. Tony drove injured because he had to run at least a lap to get the points for the race. The new man thinks he shouldn't have to drive if he's really hurt- it's a safety issue.

I'm not so sure myself. I think it's kinda cool to see a driver suck and drive, kinda like Cal Ripken Jr Iron Man stuff.

OTOH, he could be risking other drivers' safety as well.

Well? Well?

What do y'all think?

Now, you know I would love to be kind, considerate and be happy for all, but it just isn't going to happen here. I have to say that i stick with the rules as they are but I would be a little more restrictive than it is. I don't think a driver should get all the points just because they started a race and got out for another driver. I don't have a problem with the owner points going to the car owner because its their car, but the points should be assigned to the laps driven, just like if you DNF. Good fortune has a lot to do with winning the championship, in the wrong place at the wrong time, I don't see any reason to believe that the rule needs to be changed more liberally. Remember, most of Tony's injuries did not occur with the Cup races so why get a free pass for having something happen somewhere else? Just my thought. :)

Wow. You're looking at it completely differently. Mostly I've been hearing that the driver deserves the points even if he doesn't drive at all, not the other way around. What would Ricky Rudd do with the points anyway? He's not racing this year.

When you look at Nascar's bottom line, which is sponsorship, you understand why the driver has to get the points. Home Depot wouldn't be very happy if their car wasn't in the Chase because of an injury.

So, then, AAA will be really happy that Tony, or whoever, got the points for sitting on the bench thru 90% of the race. I know what you say and I understand and probably agree, but I have always leaned toward eraning what you get. As a side bar, I don't like Designated Hitters in baseball either, gives the pitcher a free pass past batting. You know its hard to teach an old mule and new plow

So, it seems that things are right and proper this morning in LK's (Queen of Nascar) world as Tony Stewart won the Daytona 400 last night. Pretty good race. Gordon and the 24 had a DNF, now don't gloat LK, when he got collected up in a small wreck and the 48 took out bobby Labonte, #43 Petty car, before limping on in. All in all a pretty good restrictor plate race.

Sorry buddy. Both Jeff and Steve Latarte admit it was intentional. Jeff went further to say that Kenseth should have expected it after Bristol.

``He should have expected if I could get to his bumper, there was going to be some action,'' said Gordon, who won his second race of the season and 75th of his career. ``One, because of what happened in Bristol -- and I'm not saying I just was going to wreck him, but you better believe I was going to make life difficult on him. And then No. 2, just 'cause we're hungry right now.''

Jeff Gordon - once a weenie, always a weenie. The real question is, why didn't NASCAR get all over his a$$? Was he not still on probation from the time he went after Kenseth in the pits?

Last year was a very odd year with both JG and JR not making the chase. I imagine they'll both make it this year though it's by no means a sure thing, especially for Gordon.

Tony will make it I think but I don't think he's likely to win it. I think that belongs to Johnson or Kenseth.

But more importantly, it's MARTINSVILLE weekend baby! Me and that man o' mine hit the road Friday night to go see ol' DW drive the Aaron's Dream Machine. This might be more exciting than NEST!

Yes, ma'am- watch that Busch race and I'll stand up and do something goofy at the camera just for you! Jeff won't be there and Mark probably won't either since it's not in the same city as the Cup race this weekend. Ironically the Cup race is a mere two hours from my house but I'm driving 8 hours to see the Busch race. I just want to see Darrell Waltrip behind the wheel again and this will be last chance to do that, I'm pretty sure.

Who would have thunk that ole Ms. Edwards little boy, Carl, would win another Busch race. Have no idea who won the ARCA race. One of the better races each year. Let's hope today is no exception. Seems like it would be a hard place to watch the race live, but they sure fill the stands. I love it when Kered talks racey that way.

NBC also seems to have more commercial coverage than race coverage. I'll be at the Knox BBQ but I'll be tivoing the race. Like slacker, I'm interested in what Tony will do this week, but more in a fearful way, like watching a train wreck.

And of course, the hope that the 24 and 48 lock bumpers and hit the wall together. Best image slacker ever came up with.

I agree. NBC is more commercial oriented, plus, their commentators are much more serious and boring.

And the best image I ever came up with was tormenting you while watching 24 and 48 lock bumpers and hitting the wall.

On a side note, at this point, Crybaby Gordon is already a lap down. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

hears something nascar should try, cover bristol with dirt like they did with the world of outlaws (sprint car series) a few years ago. it would be fun to see the cup boys on dirt. i think tony would agree with that too.

also i think jeff gordon will have a good nite and move up in points.
mark and tony will have good runs but stay in the same spot in points.
kasey kahn will move up into the top 10.
jr will remain in top 10.

I've been a huge Bristol under the lights fan for quite awhile now. The best race was a few years ago when everyone got totally nuts: helmets being thrown at windshields, leg guards tossed into the windows of moving vehicles, wrecks galore, screaming, yelling and threats. What a great race to watch...

Nascar isnt my chosen form of motor racing lol but I am curious to see how an Australian driver is doing: Marcus Ambrose. Obviously this would be his rookie year but over the past few seasons in Australian V8's he has been dominant.

Any information would be appreciated.

Marcus is driving in the Nascar Craftsman Truck Series this year. I have a bit of an interest in him myself as I'm acquainted with the folks who own his truck. But I have to admit that after his debut race and the couple after that, I kind of lost track of him. I don't have time to watch the truck races. He wrecked a lot, early on, but according to nascar.com he's had 14 starts, 1 pole, and 2 Top 5s. So really that's quite good for a rookie.

I'll be attending the truck race in Vegas next month- I'll send him a wave from you!

The TV programmer said 8 PM also. I have three things all on at 8 PM and fortunately our TV lamp just blew and we can't get a replacement until Tuesday. Will be watching our small exercise tv for all the excitement tonight. Got a football game (Kentucky), a baseball game (the Tigers) and of course California all on at the same time. Yeah, I see J. Gordon snuck in the race, and T. Stewart is out (sadly, so is C. Edwards).
Oh well - Matt and Mark shall bring Ford the title.

I still cannot fathom why trucks were made to race in circles - they are TRUCKS, meant to be worked, raised, monstersized - not droppped, tripped, and made dizzy.

TckleBelly2006

i tell you, it was disappointing watching the 20 team not make the chase, and that probably had a lot to do with his attitude on the track and with him trying to retaliate back against his competitors. but i hate to be the naysayer on this, but i'm not sure mark has enough to get the title, he is the sentimental favorite, and i would like to see him win one, but i just think he just isn't competitve enough to get up there and compete for it.

otherwise, i'm all for denny hamlin going up there and getting it. he maybe a rookie, but he's very talented and consistent with running top 10's and 15's, and i think he'll get up there and challenge for more top 5's with the other big boys.

and if only jeff gordon fell out of the chase............

i don't like either of the busch brothers myself, but i believe kyle is getting just a little better, but i could be way out there.

tony stewart just wants everything his way. he complains at the beginning of the year at daytona about someone going to kill someone racing the way they did at daytona and then he rams the side of matt kenseth. then later on in the year, he sticks his fist out of the car at pocono and runs into the side of clint boywer causing him and carl edwards to wreck. and there are a couple more incidents to come with that. but he just needs to shut his mouth and race clean.

and then robby gordon hasn't shown much attitude this year. i've actually been impressed. the worse that he's done this year is banging into the side of kurt busch on a road course and i thought that was pretty damn entertaining. and that was the final lap of a busch race at watkins glen going for the win! if that's the worse, with the fact he runs his own team and has gone from 25-70 empolyees, i think he deserves justa little bit of credit.

but i like hearing everyone's opinions. and by the way, for isabeau, mark martin finished 10th in the truck race today at new hampshire.

I'm pretty sure Harvick has the Busch title wrapped up, but I'm not so sure about the Cup title. Yes, he is on a roll and he's been very strong this last half of the season, but his crew chief is known for pushing the envelope and, as we found out about the whole tire/rim issue, is willing to take some steep risks to win races, which may or may not help in the long run. And Kevin Harvick is somewhat of a hot-head and is known for his short temper, and that could hinder his chances for a Cup Championship. But I like Harvick (even if I don't agree with his on-track actions sometimes) and I
